OMEP - OCTOBER MONTHLY MEETING KAPITI SUSTAINABILITY NETWORK

Wednesday 26th October (Week 3 of Term 4), 3.30 pm - 5 ish at Waikanae Kindergarten. Hannah Zwartz ( KCDC Green Gardner) and Pete Mackie a local Bee Keeper will join us to share their expertise to enable us to contribute to enhancing local bee habitats. These hui are being facilitated with the intention of inspiring and supporting a network of ECE interested in sustainability. They are open to any and all ECE in Kāpiti. If you are an established Enviroschool you are encouraged to attend as well, and contribute the value of being an Enviroschool in this forum. Over time, we also hope to develop the capacity to allow more ECE to join the Enviroschools Programme. Please RSVP to indicate your attendance: Amanda Dobson - [email protected]

OMEP is bringing Professor Claire McLachlan to Wellington to talk about a research project she has been involved in around children’s physical movement. Physical activity in ECE – are we doing enough? It is a ‘hot topic’ as you can appreciate. You are very welcome to attend these sessions. I have a distribution list that is paid-up members and a list that I call ‘friends of OMEP’ who want to know what the monthly PLD topics are so they can attend the ones they want. I would be happy to put your centre on the list if you would like. Date: Monday, 17 October Time: 6.00 - 7.30 pm Venue: Te Rito Maioha - Early Childhood NZ 191A Thorndon Quay, Wellington Cost: $5.00 for members, $10.00 for non members. Ngā mihi Deborah

Secretary Wellington OMEP chapter [email protected]

Your families may be starting to ask about Term 4 requests for Whānau Contributions. These will be emailed out next week and hard copies will be posted to kindergartens also next week. Please remember to have all your info in Infocare up to date by Friday. Thank you.

ENVIROSCHOOLS

WHĀNAU CONTRIBUTION LETTERS

Applications invited to join the Enviroschools programme We are pleased to announce that Enviroschools Te Upoko o te Ika a Maui is now able to offer a new group of Wellington City ECE the opportunity to join the Enviroschools programme. Thanks to everyone who responded to the survey about end-of-year celebrations. The survey results revealed an even split between support for money to go to individual teams and having one big end of year celebration. There was limited support for celebrations in re-gions. So we have determined the following:

That this year we will provide funds to each team to contribute towards their own celebrations, and that next year, we will have an Association end of year celebration.

We have already penciled in a couple of venues for next year and we’ll confirm the final venue in Term One. We can confirm the date at this stage though, so put the following date in your diaries now:

Friday, 8 December 2017 So this year, we will provide each team with money to contribute towards an end of year event/occasion that they want to engage in – it may be that you all go out for lunch, or have a shared meal, or go to the movies together, whatever. We’ll provide $100 to each team with 10 staff or less, and $200 to each team with 11 staff or more. By staff, we mean support staff, Kindergarten - based students, and itinerant relievers. We acknowledge it is not a highly sophisticated way of doing things, but the intention is that this money contributes to something that you can do together as a team.

We’ll look at organizing more smaller social occasions throughout 2017. We’ve received a number of ideas and suggestions, and so they’ll all be fed into our planning.
