Honoring

Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop

Princess Pauahi left her estates for the education of native Hawaiian children, decreeing that all her teachers and trustees

be Protestants; Christians, that the children be given instructions in morals by word and deed, that the children might become good and industrious men and women. She

was the great-granddaughter and last direct heir of King Kamehameha I.

E a‘o aku i ke kamali‘i i kona ‘ao‘ao, A ‘elemakule ‘o ia, ‘a‘ole ia e huli a‘e mai laila aku. Train a child in the way he should go, and

when he is old he will not turn from it.

ISAIAH 7:14; MATTHEW 1:20-21

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.

20 …an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

KA HA‘I ‘ŌLELO PELEKANIA Kahu Curt Kekuna (KS ‘66) THE MESSAGE IN ENGLISH

“Life Altering Disruptions” Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:20-21

‘ŌLELO MANA‘O‘I‘O Led by Kahu Curt Kekuna Statement of Faith (of the UCC)

We believe in God, the Eternal Spirit, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ and our Father, and to His deeds we testify:

He calls the worlds into being, creates man in His own image and sets before Him the way of life and death.

He seeks in holy love to save all people from aimlessness and sin.

Page 7: KA PULE HO'OKU'U

He judges people and nations by His righteous will declared through prophets and apostles.

In Jesus Christ, the Man of Nazareth, crucified and risen Lord, He has come to us and shared our common lot,

conquering sin and death and reconciling the world to Himself.

He bestows upon us His Holy Spirit, creating and renewing the Church of Jesus Christ,

binding in covenant faithful people of all ages, tongues, and races.

He calls us into His Church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship, to be His servants in the service of men,

to proclaim the Gospel to the world, and resist the powers of evil; to share in Christ’s baptism and eat at His table

to join Him in His passions and victory.

He promises to all who trust Him forgiveness of sins and fullness of grace, courage in the struggle for justice and peace.

His presence in trial and rejoicing. And eternal life in His Kingdom which has no end.

Blessing and honor, glory and power be unto Him! Amen.

+KA HĪMENI HO‘OKU‘U Congregation CLOSING HYMN GOD REST YOU MERRY

ph 122 “God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen”

[1] God rest you merry, gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay, Remember Christ, our Savior, Was born on Christmas Day,

To save us all from Satan’s power When we were gone astray.

Refrain: O tidings of comfort and joy, comfort and joy; O tidings of comfort and joy!

[2] From God, our heavenly Father, A blessed angel came; And unto certain shepherds Brought tidings of the same;

How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by name. (Refrain)

[3] “Fear not, then,” said the angel, “Let nothing you affright; This day is born a Savior, Of a pure virgin bright,

To free all those who trust in him From Satan’s power and might.” (Refrain)

[4] Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace;

This holy tide of Christmas Doth bring redeeming grace. (Refrain)
