n addition to upgrading the state Primary Health Care Agencies, the Kaduna State government, through its Ministry of Health and human I

service, is giving free medical assistance to aged persons residing in the state as one of its strategic health development plan, in line with the national framework issued by the Federal Ministry of Health.

In view of this, aged persons residing in the state that are 70 years and above, who are diabetic or hypertensive or even both, are being provided with good drugs, free of charge during checkups. The Kaduna State Commissioner of Health and Human Service, Dr. Paul Dogo stated this during the ministry’s open media programme, held at ASSA Pyramid Hotel, Kaduna. The commissioner further stated that should any of these aged persons be admitted in the hospital, this initiative provides them with money to pay for the admission fees.He also added that there is a life assurance component, where a token is paid to the family incase such persons die while on admission.Dr. Dogo stressed that the state has maintained its level of preparedness to tackle the outbreak of infectious diseases such as measles, cholera, meningitis, lassa fever and other viral haemorrhagic diseases.“Because of our robust supply chain management system we have medicines that can easily be pre-positioned in our hospitals to manage isolated cases. We have maintained polio free status since November 2012 and are working hard to build sufficient herd immunity through strengthened routine immunization programme. We have started house to house search for active tuberculosis in order to curb the spread of the disease by undetected active TB cases within communities.” He said.
