Engagement of clinical nurses in nursing and organization related initiatives contributes to the environmental health of an organization. Individual health care environments have been linked to the quality of both employee and patient associated outcomes. Safety Clinical Outcomes Patient Experience Job Enjoyment Turnover, Retention, & Recruitment As outlined by the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for Nurses and Nursing Scope & Standards of Practice, “nursing has a responsibility to measure, evaluate, and improve practice” (ANA, 2017). PURPOSE CONCLUSION FUTURE PLANS VoN Committee Member Roles Include: Facilitate clinical nurse participation in the nationally benchmarked survey. Ensure transparency in disseminating results and national benchmark comparison. Engage staff and managers to participate in the identification of the department/unit-level top imperatives. Facilitate action plan development, dissemination, and implementation. Deliverables include: One-page summary of the 2 greatest opportunities to enhance the work environment Defined implementation strategies for each area of opportunity Ongoing monitoring and interim progress reports are presented to the VoN committee to ensure adherence to deliverables, removal of barriers, and promotion of best practices. PROCESS Kaiser Permanente Irvine Medical Center: Nursing Professional Practice and Engagement VON Champions to solicit feedback from staff on NDNQI survey experience and ways to improve staff perception of it. Continue to facilitate the development of unit-specific action plans based on unit-specific results. Increase staff participation in nursing and hospital activities.
