Congratulations,youhavemetthestandardofscholarshipfortheNationalHonorSociety.EachmemberoftheKHSFacultyCouncilwillrateeachstudentontheirLeadership,Service,andPersonalStatementusingtheApplicationRubric(seeattached).TheCharacterscorewillbeaveragedfromstudent’ssubmittedCharacterRecommendations.Rubricswillbetotaledandscoreswillbeaveragedtodeterminetheapplicant’sscore.Ascoreof13outof16(withno“1”scores)willserveasaguidelineforselectionandnon-selection,butthefinalselectionmustbemadebythemajorityvoteoftheFacultyCouncil.Completionandsubmissionofthisapplicationdoesnotguaranteeselection.MembershipintheNationalHonorSocietyisoneofthehighesthonorsthatcanbeawardedtoahighschoolstudentandrequirescontinuedresponsibilityandobligationsofdemonstratingstandardsinallfourareasofcriteria.
CriteriaforNationalHonorSociety
• Scholarship(3.5G.P.A.)
Studentswhoearn(andmaintain)acumulativegradepointequivalentstandardofexcellenceof3.5orabovemeetthescholarshiprequirementformembership.Thesestudentsaretheneligibleforconsiderationonthebasisofservice,leadership,andcharacter.*Candidatesmustbemembersofthesophomore,junior,orseniorclass.
• Service
This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done withoutcompensationandwithapositive,courteous,andenthusiasticspirit.
• Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors,dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school orcommunityactivitieswhileworkingwithorforothers.
• Character
Thestudentofgoodcharacterupholdsprinciplesofmoralityandethics,iscooperative,demonstrateshighstandardsofhonestyandreliability,showscourtesy,concern,andrespectforothers,andgenerallymaintainsagoodandcleanlifestyle.
GroundsforDismissal
StudentsmayberemovedfromNationalHonorSocietyforanyofthefollowing:• AcademicDishonesty(plagiarism,cheating,etc.)• Volunteerhoursnotcompletedand/orturnedinontime(onewarningbeforedismissal)• CumulativeGPAdroppingbelow3.5fortwoconsecutivesemesters• Suspensionorexpulsion
