Karen Refugee Committee

Newsletter and Activities Report

March, 2015

This month, one of our major activities is UNHCR Verification Exercise which was

conducted at Mae La camp from 17 March and will be over on 3rd April, 2015. The Verification

Exercise will continue for Umphium camp from 6-10 April, 2015. We don't know whether this

exercise is benefiting or met the refugee's need. However, most refugees are happy that they are

given some sort certainty for receiving verification card.

Another major activity is Camp Management Working Group and Stakeholder Meetings

which were organized on 24-25 March, 2015 at Mae Sod. Participated organizations are UNHCR,

US Embassy/BKK, US Embassy/Canada, IOM, NCA, CCSDPT, Diakonia, Solidarites, PU-AMI,

COERR, ARC, ADRA, RTP, ATED, IRC-LAC, DARE, TBC, KnRC, KRC, 9 Camp Committee,

KYO, KWO, KSNG and the total number of participants is 64. The issues discussed in two days'

meeting are Camp Management, supports, social and health conditions in the camp in relation to the

reports from different organizations and UNHCR Roadmap. Further discussion on UNHCR

Roadmap will be organized by UNHCR between 18-20 May, 2015.

On 26th March, 2015, CCSDPT meeting was organized at IOM office, Mae Sod. There are

19 organizations with around 80 representatives participated. During the meeting, update

information were shared in relation to political development, peace process, human right condition,

and humanitarian support in Burma. Most donors reported on the reduction of funding from

international donors which also worries us, the refugee community. However, the support for

refugees will continue though the level of support is downsizing.

On behalf of the refugees, we would like to say thank you once again for your generosity and

supports. This is our wish that, may you be blessed in what you have given to the refugees and the

poor. Our sincere thanks towards every organizations and individuals who have stood with us and

still continue to be with us.

“Your comments and suggestions are warmly welcome!”
