KARPOV Serguei P. Dean of the Faculty of History State University M.V. Lomonosov, Moscou Medieval Period BIOGRAPHY Born in Stavropol, USSR in 1948. Professor Karpov is the Head of Department of History of the Middle Ages and Dean of the Faculty of History at the University MV Lomonosov of Moscow since his first appointment in 1995, his mandate was renewed in 2000, 2005 and 2010. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Moscow in 1974 after 8 years of research and his habilitation in the same year. In 1992, he was elected member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (Encyclopedia) and elected as President of the Russian Association of medievalists. In 2008, along with his research and Academic obligations he became Chairman of the National Committee for Byzantinists. During his research he explored diverse themes and taught multiple modules such as: History of the Middle Ages, Sources of Medieval History (12th-15th centuries), Introduction to Byzantine studies, the Black Sea during Middle Ages, Methodology and Research Instruments in Medieval History, Italian Trade at shores of the Black Sea (13th-15th centuries). He has also lectured widely, held conferences and seminars in many universities and schools in Genoa, Venice, Paris I, Montpellier, Athens, Thessaloniki, Nicosia, Seoul, Beijing, Budapest, Belgrade and Sofia. BIOGRAPHY Born in Stavropol, USSR in 1948.
