The Kick Off  Lights camera action! That is what went down on 10th July as we kicked off the KCC 40 days of commu- nity. It was a real kick off with congregants heeding the call to come having worn their sporty wear! Members were clad in their favorite sports regalia and of course their favorite teams especially teams from the English Premier League were the most featured! T-shirts of Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea donned both the church and the field. Not being left behind were also T shirts from one of the local popular clubs– Gor Mahia. Sporty wear aside, there were also a number of activities. First there was a hot steamy sermons off the press delivered in all three services challenging congregants to take this time of 40 days of community to make a difference in both KCC as a church and its community around . In both fam- ily service and ground zero the members were urged to plug into a small group and those who are in one should strengthen their group by reaching out to their neighbours to join them. This challenge was wi tnessed with members registering to join or host a small group at our community center tent. From the activities in the services, we moved to the field where the real action went down with two soccer matches and a tug of war. The matches were officially opened by Philemon Kimutai (Chair, Eld ers Court) kicking off the ball and, after three tries to put the ball in the net the games begun. The fir st match was from the children tabernacle were the littl e ones showed that indeed talents start early!! After that fun filled match we got to the main match of the day between the KCC soccer team aka ‘The Kranji’ and Sparks FC from Bul bul area which is in the KCC neighbourhood. The match was action packed with both sides showing their prowess in the game of soccer and by half time neitheir team had scored! It was that half time that we were treated to a time of tug of war between the ‘old school (Family Serv ice) and ‘the youn g bloods’ (Ground Zero) and after two tries it was a draw on both sides. Back to the soccer match and after 60 minutes of play the score was a draw: 2-2. but there will be a re-march in Au- gust to decide the winner! We will keep you posted!! On Sunday 17th July KCC was splashed in red not that it was valentine day (in July??) no, but it was time to spread the love and members were clad in red to symbolize that we at KCC are ready to spread the love of Christ not only among ourselves b ut also those around our communi ty. To drive the point home there was even a mock wedding ceremony during the Family service sermon to show the whole concept of love is sacrificial, the same was emphasized in Ground Zero with chal- lenge from Mark 12:30-31 where the youth were urged to love their neighbours the way they love God and themselves. The Children tabernacle were not left behind by showing their love with nice love boxes they have made for the children down in Aweer, Lamu. All in all love was and is in the air and for sure this 40 days of community will be a charged up event!!
