  • 1We hope that you enjoy your visit to Keele, and that you find it informative and useful. This booklet is to help you get the most out of your visit. To get you started, we would like to suggest six must do activities (see map on page 4 for numbered references).

Registration: register your attendance in the Comus Restaurant, Chancellors Building and collect tickets for the Introduction to Keele talks (see pages 10-12). We are open from 10.00am to 3.30pm. Please note that you do not need tickets to attend the other general talks listed on pages 10-12 or the academic sessions as seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis: just go along at the times advertised (see pages 8-9 for an index).

Have a break: after your journey, have a complimentary tea or coffee and biscuit or piece of fruit in the Exhibition Suite, while you finalise your plans for the day.

Go to the general talks: most of the talks are in or near the Westminster Lecture Theatre. The general talk sets the scene for your visits to the Academic Schools, and tells you about Keeles facilities and opportunities.

Visit the information stands: get information and answers to your questions on admissions, accommodation, study abroad, student finance and bursaries, Foundation Years, careers and the local area.

Meet our current students: the must do Open Day activity! Talk to them about living and studying at Keele, and ask them about viewing the student accommodation. And when youve done all that, go along to the Academic Schools to find out about our degree courses (see page 7 and the list of subject areas on pages 8-9).

Finally, please tell us what you think fill in the questionnaire online at www.keele.ac.uk/visiting or ask for a hard copy at the registration desk.

We look forward to welcoming you to Keele!

  • DEGREE COURSES AT KEELE

The main reason you will visit Keele is to find out about our degree courses. Keele specialises in Dual Honours degree courses, where students take two subjects throughout their degree studies. This means that you will study two subjects to Honours degree level: you are not taking two degrees, but you will graduate with one degree which offers the same professional and employer recognition as two. For instance, if you graduate in Psychology and English, your BSc Honours degree is fully recognised by the British Psychological Society, so you could train for a career in, for instance, psychological practice. But equally, your degree would qualify you to train to be an English teacher, or to train for journalism. And if you want a career that is completely different from your degree subjects, you will find that employers value the breadth of study that Keele offers, and our graduates are consequently amongst the most employable of any university in the country. For more information, please go to the Introduction to Keele general talk.

We do have a number of courses which are Single Honours, but which still have breadth in study and produce highly employable graduates. Please note that our Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Pharmacy courses have a different degree structure, because of the requirements of registering professional bodies. You will be given information on the course structure in the academic talks.

    ACADEMIC TALKS AND DROP-INS

At the Open Day we are offering talks and drop-in sessions for all our degree subjects (we call them Principal Subjects). To find out where and when the sessions are, please see pages 8-9 for a list. The Open Day is a chance for you to consider your subject options. So please visit as many academic subject talks and drop-ins as you like. Dual Honours at Keele offers you nearly 500 combinations for study so there is plenty of choice. If you would like some advice about the options available, please go to the Admissions Stand at 4 or speak to staff at Reception at 1.

    7

  • Please see the prospectus for details of which courses are offered as part of the Dual Honours programme, and which as Single Honours.
