DRAFT Sand/gravel Intervals Notes on Boring Logs

Appendix L (partial) Tremont City Barrel Fill Rl Report

Haley & Aldrich for RESA October, 2006

Key:

Boring IDs that are bold had monitoring wells installed in them.

If both the sand/gravel thickness and the elevation are bolded, the sand/gravel interval intersects the screened interval for the monitoring well.

Sand/Gravel intervals noted as wet or saturated on the log are indicated in blue.

If both the sand/gravel thickness and the elevation are blue, the sand/gravel interval is noted as wet or saturated on the log and intersects the screened interval for the monitoring well.

If only the thickness is blue, the sand/gravel interval does not intersect the monitoring well's screened interval (including sand pack).

If both the sand/gravel thickness and the elevation are black and bold, the sand/gravel interval intersects the screened interval for the monitoring well and was not at least wet or saturated.

Example 1:

HMW-304 0.5' 1.0' ^.4i 0.3' 0.8' o.v o.v

1082.3-1082.8 1078.8-1079.8 1076.2-1076.6 1068.8-1069.1 1056.5-1057.3 1051.3-1051.4 1049.7-1049.8

Comment [ m l ] : The designation is bold, so the boring had a IWV installed in it.

Comment [m2]: Only the thickness is blue. This interval is wet or saturated, but does not intersect the screened interval

Comment [m3]: Both the thickness and the elevation are bold. This sand/gravel interval intersects the screened interval. Both are black, so this sand/gravel interval was not identified as wet or saturated in the log (e.g.; "moist").

Page 3: Kelly Kaletsky To sjohnson, Mark Allen, Bob Kay, RONALD … · 2019-11-24 · "Kelly Kaletsky" To sjohnson, "Mark Allen", Bob Kay, RONALD MURAWSKI,

If the screened interval does not intersect a sand/gravel interval, the notation "screened in clay" appears along with the screened interval.

Example 2:

H0W-1B 0.3' 0.5' 0.8' 1.0' to.2i

1084.1-1084.4 1079.1-1079.6 1070.1-1070.9 1067.1-1068.1 1056.4-1056.6

(screened in Icla^ [l 047-1056|)

Light blue is used in the same manner as blue, but indicates intervals which the log identified as "moist to wet."

Notes:

1. This partial summary of sand/gravel intervals from boring logs in Appendix L to the Rl Report is provided to assist those evaluating subsurface conditions at the Barrel Fill. It is not complete, and it has not been verified by a second party. While every effort has been made to be accurate, there may be mistakes. In short, this summary should not substitute for a detailed review of the boring logs performed by qualified individuals. The summary is considered to be DRAFT and subject to revision as may be needed.

2. Appendix L contains well logs from RESA, TNA (EPA), and Herb Eagon. Eagon represented the historic owner/operator. Each entity logged the boreholes somewhat differently. For example, the use of and frequency of "wet" and "saturated" designations in the well logs varies depending on the entity doing the logs.

3. Where a boring log only noted depth from the surface, the depths were subtracted from the surface elevations to arrive at the MSL elevation of the interval.

Comment [m4] : These two intervals were wet or saturated, but not screened.

Comment [mS]: "clay" really means some unit other than sand/gravel (e.g; it could be silt).

Comment [m6] : This Is the screened interval

4. Every effort has been made to be accurate. However, due to time constraints, this information had not been checked by a second party. There may be mistakes.

Surface elevations on the following are characterized as "approximate". Elevations of sand units should be considered "approximate." While there is no attribution on the logs, the timeframe indicates they are Eagon logs. It's not always clear if a well was installed. Most of the wells installed prior to RESA were replaced by RESA.
