Thursday, 30th June 2016 Term 2 Week 9 Dear Parents and Caregivers, He mihi tenei kia koutou nga matua, me nga kaitiaki o a tatou tamariki. Tena koutou katoa The 2016 Kenakena School Boys Mentoring Programme is up-and-running this term
with our first cohort of Year 6 boys enjoying a trip to the National Police College and a
session of healthy cooking with Jeanine van Kradenburg, a dietitian from Party Perfect
as well as other in-school activities.
At the National Police College the boys learned about the forensics of finger-printing.
A police-dog handler presented to the boys about his job, the training involved and
about working hard and staying focused to achieve goals and stay out of trouble. The
boys also toured the Police Museum.
Thanks to Mr Ryan Jackson and Mr Andy Jenkins for organising the trip.
EMERGENCY DRESS-UP DAY FOR WELLINGTON FREE AMBULANCE
The Kenakena School Student Council organised a ‘Health and Safety Dress-Up Day’
for last Friday to raise funds for Wellington Free Ambulance, an organisation that has
served Kenakena School and our community very well over many years. We raised
$290 for this great cause.
More photos will go up on our facebook page
HOME SAMPLE FOLDERS
Over the next week children will bring home their Home Sample Folders. These are
issued twice per year in Terms 2 and 4. The folders contain samples of their work
accompanied by notes about the work and comments from their teachers on their
social and academic progress.
Students from Year 3 onwards will be writing their own reflective comments.
Alongside the comments is a space for you to write a positive comment to encourage
your children in their work. We’re looking for you to recognise the good work they
have achieved and to encourage them to work hard on the areas in which they need to
improve. Feedback is a huge motivator for learners. The feedback you give is an
important aspect of the learning partnership between student, teacher and parent.
The best way to view the folder is to sit down with your son or daughter and let them
share it with you. Focus on the good things, talk about their areas for further
development and remain positive and encouraging.
Folders should be returned to school by Monday, July 25.

Calling all old Mobile Phones to help Sustainable
Coastlines look after NZ’s coastlines and
waterways.
After $2.5 million donated to the Starship Foundation from the
sale of unwanted old mobile phones it is time for a new multi
award winning NZ charity - Sustainable Coastline to benefit
from this scheme.
It would be great if you could rummage around in your drawers
and toy boxes and bring into School any unwanted mobile
phones you may have.
Phones collected help our School gain valuable rewards and also the environment benefits
by keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic
substances.
Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the

Kāpiti Coast Town Centres and Connectors Transformation Project
HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE LATEST CONCEPT DESIGNS FOR PARAPARAUMU AND
WAIKANAE TOWN CENTRES
We want our town centres to be vibrant, diverse and thriving - places where people want to
spend their time and where they can access the services they need.
More than 200 people visited us at the recent open days/evenings and provided feedback
that will be considered as we take the current designs through to construction.
But we know not everyone could make it along.
If you haven’t yet had the chance to see what we are proposing, you can view the latest
concept designs online and tell us what you think. You can comment on both of the town
centres or just skip to the one you are interested in.
For Paraparaumu the first set of projects that we’d like your feedback on includes concept
designs for SH1 becoming a local road, the Coastlands and civic precinct area, and Kāpiti
Lights.
In Waikanae the first set of projects for feedback are centred on turning SH1 into a local
road within two years of the Expressway opening.
Feedback closes on 30 June 2016 so please take some time to have a look and tell us what
you think.
How to provide feedback:
(1) Making an online submission is the fastest, easiest way to have your say. Your submission will go
directly to council staff and you will receive an email acknowledging we have received it.
Click here to provide feedback online.
(2) Hard copy feedback forms can be picked up from the Council building in Iver Trask Place
Paraparaumu, and from Paraparaumu and Waikanae libraries.
If you have any queries, feel free to contact the Project Team at this address:
Yours sincerely
