FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S
DESK
Great to be Back!
It is good to be back after a wonderful
time on Long Service Leave. The
Kimberley was lovely but the highlight
was being with family in Alice Springs.
Changes in COVID rules meant that
we had to come home over the Great
Central Road – around 800 km of
gravel.
Kindy Enrolments
We are well down on Kindy
enrolments for next year. Usually
numbers come up but our planning for
classes for next year depends on
having accurate numbers. I’m sure all
of our current parents with Kindy
students for next year will have
enrolled them. However if you know
of parents outside the school who will
have a Kindy child next year, please
encourage them to enrol as soon as
possible.
Classes 2022/Intentions
As I said above, planning for 2022 is
underway. Accurate numbers are
essential when trying to set up classes.
To that end I would ask parents to let
the school know in good time if your
child/children will not be returning to
Kewdale next year.
Book Week
Next week is Book Week. As part of
Book Week we will hold a Book Fair
from 8.15 to 9.00 am each morning
from Monday to Thursday. Our Book
Character Parade will be on the
Wednesday morning (25 August) from
9.00 am. Thank you to Mrs Morgan
for coordinating this wonderful event
yet again and also for the beautiful
display in the library.
Cross Country Events
Although I missed it, by all
accounts our Faction Cross Country
went very well and being held in the
morning worked well.
The Interschool Cross Country is
tomorrow at Tomato Lake, and I
would like to wish all of our
competitors all the best for the day. A
huge thank you to Mrs Piani for
coordinating the faction run and
organising our team for the
Interschool, as well as taking the early
morning training sessions at Tomato
Lake.
Sick Children
Children who are sick
should not be at school.
This week we have had to send quite a
number home who should not have
been here. This especially includes
children who are coughing, sneezing
and have runny noses. This has always
been important but is even more so in
this COVID world.
Uniforms
A reminder to parents that all
students are expected to be in school
uniform every day.
Retirement
After 46 years as a teacher, Deputy
Principal and Principal I am retiring at
the end of this year. I’m sure parents
know how much I’ve enjoyed my time
at Kewdale with a dedicated staff,
wonderful parents and great students.
The position will be advertised this
term, allowing for a good handover to
the new Principal who will commence
in January 2022.
Planning for Online Learning
As I’m sure parents are aware, the
Delta variant of COVID is wreaking
havoc in NSW and Victoria. We have
to be prepared for the eventuality of it
coming to WA. We have been
planning for online learning should this
occur and the State has a major
lockdown. To this end we need to
know just how our families would be
able to cope if this were to come
about. To this end a form will be
coming home late this week for you to
fill in so we can plan effectively. We
are hopeful that we will not have to go
down this path, but we need to be
prepared.

WORLD OF MATHS INCURSION
Yesterday we had the pleasure of participating in the World of Maths
Incursion. Students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 were able to attend
the activities, which were set out in the Science and Music Room.
This activity was funded by the Kewdale Primary School’s P & C and
we would like to thank them immensely.
The student’s had an engaging and hands on time being immersed in
different maths concepts.

Soap Making Project
As part of the Senior Toilet Project, some children
made soap with Ms McQuillan.
Aim
The aim of the project was to involve the children in
the process so that they have respect and
responsibility to look after the toilets. Two groups
were chosen, senior girls and senior boys.
How
First we discussed hygiene and the
importance of hand washing and all of the
equipment needed to be sanitised.
The children were given instructions and they
independently made the soap using melt and
pour soap base, a variety of fragrances, colours
and glitter. All of the ingredients needed to be
accurately measured and weighed, melted in the
microwave, mixed and poured into soap moulds.
The senior girls also made lemongrass reed
diffusers to beautify and fragrance their toilets.
The results were amazing!
On Tuesday, the school had an incursion from World of Maths. A huge thank you to Jack for coming in
to talk to us about maths. The incursion was a fun way to learn maths.
Everyone had a great time. All around the Science and Music Room there were lots
of different activities scattered everywhere. By Chloe and Olivia, Room 13

THIS WEEK’S MATHS PUZZLE
In each newsletter there will be a Maths Puzzle or
problem for you to solve. You can work it out as a family
and then submit to the school. I will draw one out just
before the next newsletter and there will be a small
prize.
It will not be “first in, wins”, as I would like as many
students and families to become involved in maths.
Submit your entries in the Maths box in the Admin Area.

Room 1 News! This term in Room 1, we are looking at shape and colour in art! Last week, we created an art piece
using different sized circles and colourful oil pastels. We all worked super hard to make these look
great! We loved using all the bright colours and they look fantastic in our room!
