The Taoiseach, Mr. EndaKenny T.D. was formallypresented with NorthKildare Chamber’sStrategic Plan 2012-2015 ata reception at PunchestownRacecourse in Naas.

The event was hosted bythe President of NorthKildare Chamber, Ms. EilisQuinlan and was attendedby over 200 guests repre-senting business, tourism, education and the arts inCounty Kildare.

The Taoiseach was alsopresented with a white‘Kildare’ and ‘NorthKildare Chamber’ embla-zoned jersey which repre-sented the chamber’s visionthat everyone needs to ‘puton the county jersey’ fortheir own local economy.

The Taoiseach couldn’t bepersuaded to don the ‘LilyWhite’ garment but instead, holding the jersey aloft hecheerfully quipped, “Theyare not the Mayo colours!”before congratulating thechamber on such an ambi-tious and clear strategy. He said that the plan clear-

He went on to say that this

plan will need the supportand commitment of every-one in Kildare and encour-aged the crowd to ‘put ontheir own county jersey’ tomake the North KildareChamber vision a reality.

The chamber’s plan is a

culmination of months ofwork and collaborationbetween a wide range oforganisations includinggovernmental agencies andpublic bodies and represen-tatives of the wider busi-ness community and theprivate sector. It is now the very first non

governmental led countystrategic plan to combinesubmissions and objectivesof all of the major localagencies and county stake-holders into one strategicdocument.

The mix of guests repre-sented every stratum of thecounty including the equineindustry, business, educa-tion, tourism and the arts.

Well known faces at thelaunch included media per-sonality Eddie Hobbs whoacted as Master ofCeremonies, rugby star,Bernard Jackman, formerMs. Ireland, Ros Purcell,TV3’s, Sinead Desmondand trainer, Jim Bolger.Business people in atten-dance included GerryO’Hagan of Bord na Mona,Paula Murray NUIM,Eileen O’Riordain fromPfizer, Maria McGovern ofKildare Village, JohnOsborne CEO of The IrishNational Stud and MichaelDavern, of The K Club. The aim of the plan was to

deliver a small number ofclear and measureable proj-ects and it is complete witha schedule and time tablewhere the chamber hasclearly outlined when vari-ous objectives need to beachieved and various proj-ects completed.

The six key areas whichthe Taoiseach outlined inhis speech will be coordi-nated by various steeringgroups and these groups

will then be headed up byan industry expert to ensurethe timely delivery of eachof the objectives outlined.

Ultimately, the chamberhopes this plan will buildon the strengths and oppor-tunities they have identifiedin the county in order tobuild a better future foreveryone who lives andworks in Kildare.

One of the initiativesbeing addressed is thedevelopment of a compre-hensive Kildare web-portalto become a single resourcefor businesses, communi-ties and individuals who areinterested in leveraging theresources that are alreadyavailable in the county.

This project has alreadycommenced in conjunctionwith Kildare CountyCouncil and the KildareLeader Partnership.

The chamber has alsobegun working with localauthorities in leading thedevelopment of Public Wi-Fi solutions in urban areasand is currently developinga number of incubationhubs for new businessesalongside various govern-ment agencies.

Speaking at the launch ofthe plan, Eilis Quinlan,President of North KildareChamber said the plan rep-resented all of the businessinterests in the countyincluding multinationals,

SME’s and sole traderswhile acknowledging thesupport and involvement oflarger organisations includ-ing Bord na Mona, Pfizerand others. She went on tosay, “ A challenge forKildare, and indeed Ireland,is that we have a myriad oforganisations, often doingoutstanding work, but onoccasion diluting theireffectiveness and impactand hence the wastage ofresources. “All of our projects have a

single common characteris-

tic- collaboration”. Sheparticularly noted theimportance of supportingthe SME sector and said,“We recognise that theSME sector of our commu-nity is a vital one.

This sector is the back-bone of every community, and it is also the biggest jobcreating sector. HistoricallySME’s have led the way outof previous recessions, andwith a little well placedhelp, they can do it again!”

Garden Angel

Prune shrubs after they

have finished flowering.

WILDLIFE CORNERSow some Sweet Peas inwith your Legumes (Peasand Beans) to attract Beesto pollinate them.Their colours are lovely

and they smell delicious.

Cut the flowers frequentlyto bring that Summer scentinto your home. The more you cut them

the more flowers you will

get!And the Bees and otherbeneficial insects will bereally happy!

Welcome to Garden Angel, where I hope you will find

some useful TIPS or hints about what to do now, in your

garden. After such a dry spring it was good to get some much needed rain.

With everyone becoming more security concious with the rise inbreakins, lighting up your property at night is a good deterrent to burglars.Plants can play their part too as White, Cream or Yellow blossoms

reflect the light and are more visible in the evening than darker colours. So it’s a good idea to plant them along path edges or Driveways for

added safety.White Alyssum, Nasturtium, and Marigolds are some suggestions!

Teamed with some solar powered edgeing lights they

really do brighten up the night!

Try putting your Planters

on ‘feet’, which can be pur-

chased in sets of three from

Garden Centers.

Three flat pebbles will

work just as well.

This will deter slugs as it

confuses them, while

improving drainage!

TIPPlant up your Planters, WindowBoxes and hanging Baskets leavingthem in a frost free area. This will help them to become estab-

lished in their new ‘Home', and willgive them a head start to be‘Blooming Beautiful’ by the time it issafe to plant them out permanently.

Leaves of Spring bulbs can be

cut back now as they wither

and turn brown.

Summer bedding plants can beplanted over them if there aregaps in your flowerbed, but ifthey are naturalised in your lawnsimply mow over them as youmow the grass. Add some slowrelease fertiliser to ensure lots offlowers next Spring. If you had a lot of leaves and

not many flowers they need to bedug up and divided as they areovercrowded. This is best done in Septemberso mark exactly where they areas it's easy to forget. Write a noteto yourself in your Diary on theSeptember pages so you remem-ber that this is the best time to dothis job!

Water all your trees and shrubs that you planted last month. The windreally dries them out.Water them in the evening or early morning around the base with about

a bucket of water for each one. If you spray them all over their leaveswith a little bit of water during the sunny part of the day it will damagethem as the cool water splashing onto their hot leaves stresses them out!Its a good idea to collect rainwater for this. Raise your rainbarrel or rain

butt up on some concrete blocks. This way you can fit a watering can under the tap for small

watering jobs without having to drag out the hose.

Pull up any weeds or grass growing around their bases and add a mulch(something that covers the bare soil) of compost, leaf mould or barkchips onto the damp soil. This will stop new weeds growing, keep the roots moist and feed the

plant as it decomposes.

PLANTS FOR FREE!

Pot up (put individual plants into pots) any cuttings that you took lastyear as they are now new plants. You can plant them into any gaps in your garden in the autumn or givethem away as gifts. These plants will be extra special to youas you ’created’ them yourself, with the help of Nature of course!

Towards the end of May you

can plant out summer bedding

plants.

Watch the weather forecasts for

late frosts and cover them with

some old newspaper weighted down

with stones at the edges overnight

to protect them. Remove the news-

paper first thing in the morning so

your plants can catch some early

rays of sunshine!

What are Companion

Plants? These are plants that are sownbeside other plants like Vegetablesto help them to grow better. Here are a few examples:Marigolds, Calendula, and Poached

Egg plants attract Hoverflies andLadybirds which in turn kill offAphids (little green sap suckers).Nasturtium taste nicer to Slugs

than your Lettuce. The smell of Onions beside your

Carrots confuses the Carrot fly andalso keeps Black fly off your Roses.Basil grown beside Tomatoes

enhances their flavour. Not only do these plants look reallypretty (lovely yellow flowersbrightening up your greens) and areeasy to grow but they also attractBees which are necessary to polli-nate the vegetables and fruitYou can even eat Nasturtium flow-ers in your salad! All this and youhaven’t sprayed any insecticide!

When planting up a window box, treat the plants as if

you were taking a photo - little ones out in front, taller

ones to the back!

If it’s a hanging basket - put tall plants into the center

with smaller ones out to the edges!

Some Trailing Lobelia cascading over the sides hide the

edges of the planter so the focus is on the plants and

not the container!

Nasturtium Seedlings.

These are very easy to grow

and the seeds are quite big

so they are ideal for encour-

aging children to garden.

The Ben Doyle Column

On May 31st, the Irish people willonce again make their way to thepolling booths to vote on a refer-endum.Like many of you, I am trying to

make my way through the barrageof information being presented tome, so that I can make a decisionon how I might vote on this socalled Stability Treaty.

At this stage, I can honestly saywith my hand on my heart that Ihave yet to make up my mind onthe matter.

And yes, I know that this refer-endum could have important ram-ifications for me and my childrensfuture.

Hopefully over the next fewweeks, I will decide what way tovote, after I have reviewed andanalyzed all the information that Iwill undoubtedly be bombardedwith.

Believe it or not, this will be the29th time the Irish people havebeen asked to vote on a referen-dum.

I don’t know about you but I amgoing to find it very hard to findthe time to deal with this. Andwhy should I?

Like many of you, I am not aneconomist or a constitutionallawyer.

And I don’t think that I have thefull picture to make a rationaldecision on this Fiscal Treaty.

We need a new referendumto abolish all referenda !!

When I want my car’s gearboxfixed or need my back boilerrepaired, I call a mechanic or aplumber. So why can I not relyon the expertise of professionalsto help me on economic and legalmatters?

However, given what I haveheard so far, even the experts aredivided on this issue.

Is there any need for us to begoing to the polls on this in thefirst place?

Do we not live in a representa-

tive democracy that’s based on a system where we select represen-tatives to make these decisions onour behalf?

Some of the amendments to ourconstitution have required us tomake decisions on the right to lifeof the unborn, divorce and thereduction in the voting age.

These issues have been highlyemotive but all had one thing incommon.

They required us to make arational decision on what sort of

society we want to live in. Expertise was replaced by “gut

feeling” and a guidance of ourfundamental beliefs.

However, a lot of our constitu-tional referenda have involvedvery complicated legal lawsinvolving the European Unionand I believe it is our legislatorswho should be empowered tomake these complicated decisionson our behalf. Thats what repre-sentative democracy is all about.

Are we eventually to follow

some of our European neighbourswhen it comes to the over use ofreferenda?

In Italy the referendum has beena more destructive force. TheItalian rules allow a fixed numberof voters to launch a challenge toan existing law, and on occasionsItalians have been called upon tovote on up to 12 different issueson the same day.

The most frequent user of thereferendum is Switzerland, whereturnout in many votes is below 50per cent, perhaps because theSwiss tire of voting so often - onaverage there are about 10 popu-lar votes a year !!

We are consistently reminded, mostly by those on the left, thatthe Irish people demand the rightto make their own decisions onpending European laws. However, as the last opinion poll

showed, over 20% of people saythey cannot make up their mindbecause they feel that “it is toocomplicated to understand”.

I say let our elected representa-tives make the decision for us.Thats their job.

I don’t know about you, but I’mtoo busy right now trying to makeends meet for my family ratherthan worrying about decisionsthat should be made by our paidlegislators.

We are blessed here inKildare with the vastamount of amateur musicalsocieties and drama groupsoperating in the County.

Newbridge MusicalSociety’s recent productionof “Beauty and the Beast”has received rave reviews.

Naas Musical Societyhave just finished their runof the Broadway hit, “Guysand Dolls”.

Leixlip, Athy, Clane,Kildare Town andProsperous are just some ofthe towns and villages inthe county with active andvibrant musical and dramagroups.

Why travel to Dublinwhen there are so manyshows to choose from inour own back yard !!

The Riverbank inNewbridge and the MoatTheatre in Naas also pro-

Great amateur entertainment

right on our own doorstep......vide great entertainmentfor all the family.

Prosperous Drama and theSilken Thomas Players arealso appearing in the RTEDrama Festival in Athlonethis week and both are ingreat positions to win amajor award.

Like myself, my seven-teen year old daughter is agreat fan of musicals. Theplaylist on her phoneincludes the latest hits byKaty Perry, Rihanna andThe Saturdays, but she alsohas songs from “FunnyGirl”, “Phantom of theOpera” and “Meet me in StLouis”.

It was because of this loveof musicals that we bothwent along to see the latestproduction from KilcockMusical Society, “Oklahoma”.And what a great night !!

Kilcock Musical Societyhave been putting on showssince 1983 (I was told toldthat they have been aroundfor even longer than that !)and their professionalism isevident.

Not content with pre-recorded backing tracks,we were presented with afantastic live string sectionunder the direction ofMusical Director, DermotO’Callaghan, who broughtus the famous soundtrack tothe show. From the opening overture

to the final curtain, we werehighly entertained by a veryenthusiastic and talentedcast.

So much goes into puttingon such a show and it wasobvious on the night thatthe Production team“pushed the boat out” toprovide a fantastic night of

entertainment. I wasdelighted and surprised tosee so many young peopleinvolved in the production.

If this is the future ofmusical theatre in Kildare,we should be heartened.

Marie Kelly as Aunt Ellerand Rory Robinson as AliHarkin gave just as good aperformance as you mightsee in the West End.

The whole cast were justsimply brilliant, however, aspecial mention should bemade of Peter Manningwho played Curley.

Not only were his vocalsexcellent but from theopening scene, he hadgreat “stage presence”.

If you see ANYTHINGbeing put on by this verytalented group in the future,my advice is don’t miss it!!!

Time to remove these

eyesores

Now that the Celtic Tigeris well and truly dead, it’stime to put an end to allthose NDP road signsscattered around the coun-try.

Firstly, we don’t want tobe reminded about thegreat roads we built whenwe could actually afford acar.

Secondly, these eyesoresare a blot on our lovelylandscape.

It’s hard enough to swal-low the fact that our littlecountry is being bailed out

by the EU, but to be con-stantly reminded that itwas EU funds that helpedbuild our roads in the firstplace...

Given that there are hun-dreds of these signs upand down the country, theMinister for Transportshould remove the lot ofthem.

The price of scrap metalis presently €200 pertonne, so have them melt-ed down and sold to payoff our crippling EU debt!!

FOOD FOR FREE!

Thinnings of Carrots, Lettuces, Rocket, Spinach,

Spring Onions Tossed in a Salad.

The Avocado Pear is a highly nutritious fruit. It is delicious

eaten raw in a salad. It contains lots of vitamins and minerals and

even though it has a high fat content - this is a “good’ fat which actu-

ally reduces cholesterol. As the air turns it brown it is a good idea to

sprinkle it with some Lemon juice to prevent this. Buy it soft to the

touch or ripen it on your window ledge or in a brown paper bag.

1/2 a ripe Avocado per person.

Juice of a lemon

1/2 large Grapefruit per person

1 Large Orange per person

Cut the Avocado in half using a stainless

steel knife

If you are only making 1 portion leave the

stone in the half you are keeping, squeezing

a little lemon over the cut part. Store in

fridge in sealed container.

Peel and roughly chop the flesh. Squeeze Lemon juice over it.

Peel and remove all pith from the Orange and Grapefruit.

Cut into pieces. Store half in separate container in fridge if only

using half the Avocado.

Mix the fruits and spoon onto washed salad leaves, pouring all juice

over top.

Served with cooked leftover Chicken, Salmon or Prawns this is a

lovely light dish and teamed with some fresh brown bread, delicious!

Hello and welcome toCarmel’s Kitchen. Some new baby potatoes should bein season now, and lightly boiled orsteamed served with some butter, skin and all, they are one of thenicest, most simple dishes youcould have.

Left overs can be cut up and friedalong with some Spring Onions.

Don’t overcook them as you willlose all the goodness and flavour,Delicious!

Or try them cold mixed withMayonnaise, a little pepper and saltand some raw chopped Springonions as a potatoe salad. Make it inadvance and store it in the fridge sothe flavours can intensify.

They really are versatile andtasty! Rhubarb and Asparagusshould still be in season also.

Fry the veg in the olive oil until soft.Add stock and simmer for 1/2 hr stirring occasionally.Remove from heat. Add the cheese and blend with a hand blender. Gradually stir in the cream and return to heat. Serve hot.Broccoli, Cauliflower, Leeks and Potatoe all go very well with the

Stilton for a variation.

Food For FreeCollect Spring flowers of Violets, Primroses and Cowslips

gently, so you don’t bruise them in an open container.

Rinse them in cooled boiled water and place them into

ice cube trays.

Top off with more cooled boiled water and put into

freezer. The flowers will become suspended in the frozen

ice cube. These look lovely floating in drinks at special

occasions later in the summer.

They are edible and can be stored in freezer bags until

needed.

Flowers of Herbs, Mints, Thymes, Chamomile,

Rosemary and even Lavender can also be used in this

way and their flavour will enhance your beverage as they

melt.

Lamb Kebabs

Lamb is usually plentiful at

this time of year. Using less expen-

sive cuts like the shoulder and

marinating the meat overnight

will make a tasty alternative to

the more traditional Roasted

Lamb dinner.

1 1/2 lbs boned shoulder of Lamb

( your butcher will be happy to

remove the bone and even cut it

up into pieces for you)

1/4 level tsp green chilli

1 inch piece root Ginger

5 fl. oz. Plain Yoghurt

1/4 level tsp ground coriander

1/4 level tsp ground cumin

1 clove Garlic

Juice of 1/2 lemon

1/4 tsp salt

Trim any excess fat from meat

Chop chilli and ginger roughly

Put yoghurt into bowl and add

spices, chilli, ginger, crushed gar-

lic, lemon juice and salt.

Mix lamb into mixture and cover

and leave to marinate overnight

in fridge.

When ready to cook, thread lamb

onto skewers and cook under the

grill for 8- 10 mins, turning

frequently

Serve with Rice or Couscous and

sauted onions, mushrooms, pep-

STUDYING FOR EXAMS

Sitting exams can be stress-ful but with early prepara-tion and effective studyingresults will dramaticallyimprove. Many students dopoorly in exams and some-times it is not through lackof effort but through a poorunderstanding of what isrequired to succeed inexams.

EXAM FAILURE is aresult of students unable todo the Exam Questions to aproper standard and / orPoor Time Management inthe exam. With just onemonth to the exams we willshow how a student shouldprepare in advance for theexams next month

Top Tips for ExamPreparation

5 Weeks to the Exams:* Get the past papers of

the subjects you are sittingand READ CAREFULLYthe format of each papernoting which questions arecompulsory and thosewhich are optional. Getfamiliar with the format ofthe exams you are doing atthis early stage.

* Draft up a weekly study

timetable and stick to it.Get into a routine earlymaking time for each sub-ject each week.

* Take a topic on the syl-labus and attempt at least 5-6 previous exam questionson this topic. For examplein maths select Algebra andattempt the 2011, 2010,2009, 2008 & 2007 papers.Ideally each questionshould be completed in 25minutes* Compare your solutions

to the recommended solu-tions and see how far offyou are. Go and repeat theprocess of doing thesequestions and see if youhave improved on your firstattempt. Remember youonly need 40% to pass thepaper

You should go through atleast 6 previous exampapers prior to the examsfor all subjects you are sit-ting.

Time ManagementThis is very important foranybody doing any exami-nation. You must managetime in the exam. Junior &Leaving cert exams require40% to pass. This is on the assumption

that you COMPLETE thepaper, i.e. you do all thequestions required. However if you do notcomplete the exam the per-centage pass rate unfortu-nately increases.

The Leaving Cert ProjectMaths Paper 2 has got 8questions which are practi-cally ALL compulsory witha small choice in Q.8.

Number of Questions todo: 8 Duration of Exam:2.5 hours (150 Minutes)Time to do each question:18 minutes approx (150minutes / 8)

The announcement bymortgage lenders to offernegative equity mortgage’sis a very positive move bythe Irish lending banks. It will help so many home-

owners in negative equitysuch as young families whofind that their starter homeapartment is inadequate tomeet the changing needs. Some customers may have

experienced changes intheir lifestyles or changingjobs and now need to movehome. The effect of theseoptions will give the prop-erty market a much neededkick-start.

Two types of mortgagesare available: one for thosein negative equity whowish to move to a propertyof a higher value, and onefor those who wish to dis-pose of their current homeand move to a home oflower value.

This new mortgage prod-uct is being targetedtowards customers who arenot in financial difficultybut purchased homes, par-ticularly in the last six orseven years and are current-ly in negative equity.

Many of these customerscan afford the new repay-ments associated with anew mortgage but the nega-tive equity was previouslyblocking their move.Customers will undergo afull assessment and willhave demonstrated thatthey can afford the newmortgage.

Trade Up Negative EquityThis will enable customerswho are in negative equityto sell their current homeand move to a higher valueproperty, carrying over anamount of negative equityto the new mortgage.

This may be suited forcustomers who need tomove home for work rea-sons, or those with a grow-ing family who need tomove to a larger home.

Trade Down NegativeEquityThis will enable customerswho are in negative equityto sell their current homeand move to a lower valueproperty, while carrying anamount of negative equityto the new mortgage.

This may suit customerswhose children have grownup and moved out of home.

Trade Down Mortgagefor Customers in MARPThe new trade-down optionwill enable eligible borrow-ers, who have experienceda permanent downwardadjustment in income, totrade down to a less expen-sive property and reducetheir mortgage to a moreaffordable and sustainablelevel.

They may also carry for-ward negative equity totheir new mortgage.Suitability for this optionwill be discussed on a caseby case basis with individ-ual customers.

The following are exam-ples of how the newNegative Equity productfeatures might work:

Trade Up NegativeEquity –Changing/GrowingFamilyA couple bought a 2 bed-room starter home in 2006,for €350,000 with a mort-gage of €322,000.

They have since had achild and now have a sec-ond on the way and want tomove to a larger home clos-er to schools, facilities etc.

Their existing home isnow valued at €175,000

and the balance on theirmortgage is now €290,000.(166% LTV – - loan tovalue)

Their new property iscosting €400,000, and 90%LTV would equate to€360,000.

This new feature wouldallow this couple to borrow,€475,000, or 119% LTV,covering both 90% LTV oftheir new property and theshortfall from the sale oftheir starter home (subjectto affordability and under-writing assessment).

Trade Down NegativeEquity – Moving due tojob relocationA single man purchased a 3bed house in Dublin in2007, for €420,000 with amortgage of €386,400(92% LTV at the time).

He has been relocated toGalway in his current job,and would rather remainwith his current employerthan change jobs.

His property is now val-ued at €240,000 and thebalance on his mortgage is€363,000.

Therefore, his LTV is cur-rently 151%, and he hasNegative Equity of€123,000.

As his outstanding mort-gage is greater than thevalue of the property, heconsidered renting it out,but the rental income willnot cover the mortgage.

He doesn’t have anydesire to become a landlordanyway and his preferenceis to buy in Galway ratherthan rent. The new property inGalway will cost €170,000.This new feature will allowhim to borrow €293,000, or172% LTV, covering both100% of his new property

and the €123,000 shortfallfrom the sale of his housein Dublin (subject toaffordability and under-writing assessment).

While his LTV hasincreased, his total debt hasreduced from €363,000 to€293,000.

Help for householders in Negative Equity

Household Tax protest continues

Jo Heavey and Liz Smyth from Newbridgearrives at Áras Chill Dara to deliver lettersfor Kildare Councilors.

Cllr Fiona O'Loughlin receives a letterfrom the C.A.H.W.T. (Campaign AgainstHousehold and Water Taxes)

James Lawless, chairmanof the Sallins Fianna Fáilcumann, welcomes plans toincrease the capacity of M7motorway between Naasand Newbridge.

The narrowing of the M7at Maudlins interchangewas creating unnecessarytailbacks for commutersand hauliers.

He added however thatother severely congestedroads adjacent to the Naasby-pass must be addressedat the same time, in particu-lar the main road throughSallins.

Lawless stated that “nowis the perfect time forKildare County Council torevisit the long awaited by-pass for Sallins village.

Too many opportunitieshave passed and Sallinscannot wait any longer - itis a priority issue for every-one living in the area”.He further highlighted that“An interchange will beneeded and potentiallywould connect the Naasring road with the motor-way and with the Sallinsbypass. There are obvious depend-

encies here with recentBord Pleanála recommen-dations that the interchangebe looked at in tandem withthe bypass. This could belooked at now whilst theworks are underway.

It would be short-sightedto ignore the Sallins by-pass now as the M7 inter-change will be needed forthis long term anyway”.

James has been advocat-ing the need for a by-passof the village for sometime. The community hashad this issue on the agendafor over a decade now but ithas never proceededbeyond planning stage.

With a population of over4,000 and while also serv-

ing as a trunk road betweenNaas and the M4 to thenorth, it is negativelyimpacting on the daily livesof residents.

“The issue of traffic con-gestion comes up all thetime – traffic volumesthrough the village knockon to everything frompedestrian safety to parkingto gridlock at some junc-tions. it is one of the biggestconcerns for people livingin Sallins village.

I would hope that KildareCounty Council and theGovernment will now usethis opportunity to addressthis issue” concludedLawless.

Sarsfields GAA was thevenue for this much antici-pated Leinster final clashagainst neighbours Laoisand the Newbridge clubhad the pitch and facilitiesin top condition. Despite a lot of possession

in the first half, Kildareonly found themselves fourpoints up at the break.

Emer Fogarty brought herscoring boots and scored animpressive eight points inthe opening half as well aswinning a penalty whichwas converted by the fullforward from Celbridge,Orla Gowran.

Kildare were dominatingin most positions on thefield and the spectatorswere shown some top classdefending from MichaelaNolan, Rachel Corriganand the very impressiveCiara Conaty who allworked tirelessly to cut outnumerous attacks fromLaois.

Gowran scored anothertwo points in the openinghalf and Connolly andTrina Duggan snatchedanother two points. Fogarty continued to dom-

inate in the opening stages

of the second half and with-in ten minutes she hadscored 2-1. Kildare halftime substitute ShannonDoheny snatched anotherpoint to stretch Kildareslead. Gowran addedKildares fourth goal justbefore Kildare were award-ed their second penalty ofthe game.

Having converted the firstone, Gowran slotted theball past the Laois keeperfor the second time fromthe penalty spot but her hattrick of the game.

Doheny added another toincrease the lead which wasquickly followed by anoth-er Fogarty point. At this point, Kildare were

on top all over the field andcleared the bench to freshenthings up. The young lilieswent on to record a memo-rable 17 point victory overLaois.

Rebecca McGuirk had arelatively quiet day in thegoals but dealt with any-thing that came her way. The full back line excelled

in this game and althoughEimear Fogarty won the'player of the game' award,Moorefields Ciara Conaty

had to be a close second. The Curley twins worked

tirelessly in the half backline bursting through giventhe chance and always ablyassisted by Leah Earley onthe wing.

Midfield worked well andShannon Doheny was intro-duced for EadaoinConnolly at half time.

Caoimhe Hynes workedhard in the middle makinggood contributions of theball.

The half forward lineworked possibly the hardestthey have worked all yearin a Kildare jersey. GraceClifford, Emer Fogarty andRoisin Byrne stole theshow with their passing, determination and scoringand demonstrated to thespectators all that is rightwith ladies football inKildare. Orla Gowran was the most

impressive inside forwardand showed a calm collect-ed side to put away twopenalties in a Leinster final.

Well done to the manage-ment team of Davy Burkeand Kim Turner who haveput in a lot of work withthis team.

Johnston transfer saga in hands of newCCCCThe on-going Seanie Johnston transfer saga means it's acase of down to business straight away for the newly-appointed Central Competitions Control Committee(CCCC).The new committee, which was announced by GAA pres-

ident Liam O'Neill yesterday and will serve for the nextthree years, comprises former Munster Council secretarySimon Moroney (chairman), Michael Delaney, PatFitzgerald, John Prenty, Danny Murphy, Declan Hallissey,Tony O'Keeffe, Seamus Maher, Peter Carty, FeargalMcGill and Pat Doherty. It is expected to meet in the com-ing days to deal with the matter.
