Pre-Kindergarten
We are having a terrific start in the new
year! This month we enjoyed making our
winter themed crafts. We learned about letters z, k,
and a. The class was also introduced to some of our
Popcorn Words: I, am, the, my, to, this, an and at.
We practiced reading words from the –at word fami-
ly. We discussed the winter season, weather and the
important lessons of Martin Luther King Jr. and tied
it into friendship. We practiced the ABC pattern and
opposites. One of our favorite themes this month was
the Arctic because we loved learning about pen-
guins! Next month’s learning includes more letters
and numbers, popcorn words and word families, as
well as discussing shadows for Groundhog’s Day,
money for President's Day and celebrating Valen-
tine’s Day. Please send in unaddressed Valentine’s
Day cards for the class to exchange with their
friends. Lastly, we would like to give a birthday
shout out to Olivia S.
Preschool
“January, January, snow in January!” The Pre-
school class welcomed lots of new friends
this month! Everyone’s uppercase letter
recognition and beginning sounds skills are really
improving. All of the children are now able to trace
their names and recognize most of their friend’s
names. They can meaningfully count to 15!
One of this month’s highlights was our invisible ink
experiment. The class created pictures with lemon
juice and cotton swabs. When these pictures were
held up to a heated lamp, they became visible. We
have also started to learn about healthy food choices.
Go Foods are foods that are good to eat all the time.
These foods include fruit, vegetables, cheese and
milk. Whoa Foods, like cupcakes, cookies, and chips
are only ok to eat sometimes. Our Friday swim les-
sons have been improved. The class is now divided
into two swim groups. Each group swims for a half
hour. Next month we look forward to celebrating
Valentine’s Day. Please send in a large empty
tissue box for a project.
Toddlers
Happy New Year everyone! Winter has
finally arrived. The Busy Bees were so
excited to see the snow! The Toddlers
talked about the winter season and helped decorate our room
with jolly snowmen and cute penguins. We welcomed Char-
lotte into our class and said goodbye to Olin and Ryan, who
transferred into Ms. Fran’s Preschool room. We learned how
important it is for us to eat healthy foods and we had the op-
portunity to try various types of fruits and vegetables. How
exciting it was for us to learn about dinosaurs from long, long
ago. It was interesting trying to find dinosaur bones that were
hidden in our sand table. In February we will be looking for-
ward to celebrating Valentine’s Day by exchanging cards
with our friends and having a party. Our toddlers will be
quite busy making beautiful Valentine’s Day crafts for their
very special valentines.
Waddlers
The Waddlers rang in the New Year by decorating festive
balloons and displaying them in the hallway. We had fun
learning new songs and finger plays to add to our repertoire.
The Waddlers love to sing “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on
the Bed.” Some of the activities that the Waddlers enjoyed
this month were: learning about pen-
guins, helping doggies find their bones
and making a snowflake banner to dis-
play in our classroom, as well as many
other wintery activities. We also cele-
brated “I Love Books Week.” The Wad-
dlers brought in books from home to
share with their friends during Circle Time. Next month the
Waddlers will be making all types of hearts to celebrate Val-
entine’s Day.
Infants January was a quiet month after all the festivities in Decem-
ber. Our little ones enjoyed playing with each other and
reaching there own little milestones. Ari went from crawling
to pulling himself up. Jaqueline, Sofia and Alexa went from
walking steady to running all over. The three little girls will
be ready to become “Waddlers” soon.
