KING’S CHAPEL April 12ORDER OF WORSHIP

Easter Story

Donkey (Blue Egg)Matt. 21:2-3, 6-8

Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as our triumphant King on a borrowed donkey! This is the start of Holy Week.

Silver Coins (Light Pink Egg)Matt. 26: 14-16

Judas Iscariot, one of Jesus’ disciples, was given 30 silver coins to help some bad people capture Jesus so they could hurt and kill Jesus!

Cup (Light Purple Egg)Matt. 26:27-28

During the Passover meal that Jesus was eating with His disciples, Jesus took the cup and said that the wine in the cup represented His blood that would be shed on the cross to wash away our sins! This meal would become the Lord’s Supper. We remember that meal every time we celebrate Communion at King’s Chapel.

Praying Hands (Orange Egg)Mark 14:32-34

Jesus prayed three times in the Garden of Gethsemane to His Father that He would not have to die on the cross, but Jesus always ended His prayer asking that God’s plan would be done! Jesus was willing to die on the cross so that we could be forgiven of our sins!

Whip (Green Egg)John 19:1

Pontius Pilate, the ruler over the people, ordered that Jesus was to be whipped. The whip hurt Jesus so much as it tore into his body and made him bleed. Jesus did not do anything wrong, yet he was whipped like a criminal!

Rooster (Yellow Egg)Mark 14: 71-72

Peter, one of Jesus’ closest friends, promised that he would always be faithful to Jesus. But Jesus told Peter on the very night he’d be taken by bad people to be crucified on a cross that Peter would deny even knowing Jesus three times before the rooster crowed twice. It happened just as Jesus said it would!

Crown of Thorns (Light Orange Egg)Matt. 27:27-29

The Roman soldiers who had whipped Jesus made a crown of thorns and shoved it down on Jesus’ head making him bleed even more! Those thorns hurt so much! The soldiers said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” But they didn’t really praise Jesus. They were making fun of Jesus.

Nails in the Cross (Light Green Egg)John 19:16-18

The Roman soldiers laid Jesus on a cross and they nailed Jesus’ hands and feet into the cross so that He could hang on the cross and die. This is how the Romans punished the worst criminals back then. Jesus was truly innocent of any wrong doing, but He was treated like the worst of criminals! He died on the cross so that all of our wrong doings (sins) could be forgiven!

Spear (Purple Egg)John 19:32-34

When the Roman soldiers wanted to make sure Jesus was dead, they drove a spear into His side to make sure He had died. When the soldiers drove the spear into Jesus’ side, water and blood flowed down. Jesus had truly died on the cross!

Linen Cloth (Light Blue Egg)Matt. 27: 57-60

After Jesus died, a man named Joseph asked if he could bury Jesus and put him into a tomb that he owned. Joseph wrapped Jesus’ body with a linen cloth and placed his body in the tomb. Joseph was sad that Jesus died and he wondered what would happen next.

Stone (Pink Egg)Matt. 28:2-4

A large stone was rolled in front of Jesus’ tomb because the Romans didn’t want anyone taking Jesus’ body away. Soldiers stood to guard Jesus’ tomb. But a large stone and Roman soldiers weren’t strong enough to keep Jesus from staying inside that tomb!

Empty (White Egg)Matt. 28:5-6

The last egg is empty, just like Jesus’ tomb! Jesus is risen, just like He said! Jesus is alive! This is the Good News of the Easter Story!! Jesus has defeated death! We now can be given eternal life if we believe in the Easter Story!
