The cat ate his Friskies too late and his mother said, ‘’Oh Boy’’. ‘’You’ll have to go shovel the walk again.’’

The cat looked closely at his mum. ‘’Yep, she means it.’’

So the cat rolled up his great coat’s sleeves and leaped onto the windowsill. ‘’Hmmmm. I think I’ll take a nap. What’s the sum of nap and shovel? Hmmm…’’

and he drifted off to sleep. He woke up and felt himself being picked up by a shovel. ‘’Help! Help!’’ He sprung up and into a tree and began to purr. ‘’Everything is so small from up here.’’

His purring sound turned into a song about mice. ‘’They’re so quick and quiet, but catch them I might.’’ He sang in a whisper so they couldn’t hear him.

The snow was white and matched his coat so he got it into to his head to just not move and they wouldn’t see him.

The snow was falling softly all around him and made a soft pillow for him. The snowflakes were crystal and stuck to his fur and made an igloo just to fit him.

Ah, it’s surely warm in here, he mused.

He blinked once and the crystals became a pair of glasses of perfect clarity.

He leaped down from the tree and began

to knit a snow coat to keep warm by.

‘’Kitty, Kitty’’ his mother cried and he padded into the house

with a shrug and curled up to the fire again.

The next day, he found three little mice deep in the snow shivering with cold and all he had on was his fluffy tail to warm them so he gingerly pushed his tail into the snow and pulled them out.

He carried them proudly into the warm house.

He saw the saucer of milk waiting for him on the counter and … gently... nosed it… off.

The milk poured down like a tiny waterfall...

and made three little puddles for the mice.
