Dear Brothers in Christ,
Let’s proclaim, anew, our love of life, and dedicate, anew, our lives to love - Happy Valentine’s Life! Yes, everyday is Valentine’s Day for us, men who call ourselves Knights, and, yes, for everyone who loves God and neighbor and seeks to do God’s will and help build up God’s Holy City. Yes, think about who Jesus is, and know who St. Valentine is - think about who Valentine is, and know who each one of us is. Valentine was a Catholic priest martyred, February 14, 278, during the reign of Emperor Claudius Gothicus.Valentine was arrested, imprisoned and beheaded for marrying Christian couples and providing aid to Christians being persecuted by the Roman authorities. Helping Christians in Valentine’s time was consid-ered a crime by those who did not know Our Lord. Sometimes, in the place and time in which we live, it might seem that way to some amongst us. Standing up for Life by helping young mothers and fathers and their sons and daughters, and for Marriage by advocating and living out the Truth of Male-Female complemen-tarity, and for Religious Freedom by sharing the Good News of Redemption-Forgiveness of our sins, all, can make some feel timid ... but only if we forget Who Jesus, the One and True Author of the Law is - or if we forget who we are as His Devoted Disciples! Remembering Who Jesus is and doing what Jesus commands - loving God and loving neighbor - takes away all fear. Thus, as Brothers in Christ, each of us joins himself with St. Pope John Paul II and all the Communion of Saints, affirming in thought, word and action, Non abbiate paura - Aprite le porte a Cristo! Open the doors to Christ! Knowing we are loved, in Truth, by the Almighty God of Creation, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, inspires and empowers each and every one of us to live, and to love, in God’s Truth and Power. Thus, for Knights and other saints, wherever we happen to live and to love, for ourselves and one another and whom-soever we work to help - today, tomorrow and always - Valentine’s charism lives!
Vivat Jesus et semper adelante!

Dear Brothers, Our America is stronger because of our faith and be-ing patriots of the Temple and of our Lord Jesus Christ. This Strength is because of our Lord providing every-thing we need in order to do his bid. You of a man of faith must cherish all you have and all forthcomings. We all have days when we feel empty-handed and unprepared to do the work of the Lord. We might say to ourselves, “God hasn’t given me enough patience” or “I wish I had the same compassion that so-and- so has.” In these moments, we can try to consider the “no food, no sack, no money “ principle. When we think about Jesus sending the disciples out along rocky footpaths in sweltering heat without as much as a drachma to spend or a barley loaf to eat, it might seem neglectful. But that’s because we are looking at this story with twenty-first- century eyes. It was common practice in Jesus’ day for people to wel-come traveling preachers into their homes and care for their needs. Hospitality was one of the top virtues of ancient Israel! But we can take a spiritual lesson from this passage: God will not abandon us. (Mark 6:8). So today, brothers ask God to fill you up with all the provisions you need for your journey. Let him relieve you of the burden of trying to provide for yourself, just as he did for the disciples. Don’t be afraid to tell the Lord what you think you’re missing. Ask for his help. He won’t leave you empty-handed.
Blessings,
SK Bill RedmondFaithful Captain, 2017-18

by Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson
When the Supreme Court revisited Roe
in the 1992 Planned Parenthood v. Casey
decision, the 5-4 majority argued that
Roe could not be overturned because, for two decades, people had made
choices about their lives and intimate relationships “in reliance on the
availability of abortion in the event that contraception should fail.”
Pope Paul had a very different response to such challenges – one that has
been described as “Christian personalism.” In Humanae Vitae, he wrote
this about married love: “Husband and wife become in a way one heart
and one soul, and together attain their human fulfillment. It is a love that
is total. ... Whoever really loves his partner loves not only for what he re-
ceives, but loves that partner for the partner’s sake” (9).

Not everyone can make the trip to the annual March for Life in Wash-ington, D.C. But since 1974, a steady stream of companion marches has grown. Now more than 60 local marches take place across the United States, allowing many more thousands to take a stand for life.
For instance, approximately 10,000 people participate in the Dallas March for Life, which started in 2002.

By Father Grace - During the District Deputies midterm meeting, Arch Bishop Lori commented on the importance of the fraternal nature of the K of C and our need to deepen our understanding of the importance of the fraternal concept and why we perform the many things we do to improve our un-derstanding of Catholicity and our commitment to the many charitable activities we engage in. The fraternity is one of the greatest gifts given to us and we must keep our eyes on our final goal of communion with God and the church.
• Pro-Life: Steve Beuerle indicated the next target for a light and life project would be the Imperial Valley. There would be about five events per year to move the project forward. Each council will be asked to assist in at least one such project. Opus 6 is shaping up to involve purchasing a vehicle smaller than the current ones in order to reduce the level of costs associated with the present operations.• The abortion reversal program of Dr. Delgato was discussed and recommended that all members become acquainted with its provisions.• Retention: Recommended that a visit be made to those who are not attending or delinquent in their dues be vis-ited prior to being dropped. While many attempts are made, it was indicated that an actual visit may be more advantageous than just letters and calls.

Reception for New Sir Knights Balboa Assembly 0040
The members of St. Augustine KC Coun-cil #16237 hosted a 80th Birthday Party for Fr. John Grace. The party was held in the church hall at St. Patrick Catholic Church in San Diego on January 25th which is his exact birthday. Everyone from the entire parish was invited for the pot luck event. When Father Grace was invited to cut the cake, he took the 4th degree sword from SK Bill Redmond and proceeded to stab the cake. A good time was had by all. Some insight about Fr. Grace. He is the youngest of five children of Edward Grace and Margaret O’Sullivan. On Feb. 18, 1962, he was ordained to the Priesthood in Sacred Heart Church in Rome, Italy.
Fr. Grace joined the Knights of Columbus at Kass Council in Buena Park, CA in Oct. of 2000 and became a Sir Knight in 2001. He has held many offices of the Knight of Columbus from local Council Chaplain, Chapter Chaplain and California State Chaplain and including Supreme Office of KofC - Director of Chaplain Programs and Development and Assistant to the Supreme Chaplain, Archbishop William E. Lori. Thank you for your leadership and guidance both as a priest and member of the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral Mass for Msgr. Don Kulleck’s
KofC Color Corps presence at the funeral Mass for Msgr. Don Kulleck.
Msgr. Don KulleckBorn: September 21, 1927
Ordained: February 2, 1952Passed: January 12, 2018
Among the full church gathering of friends and ad-mirers who turned out at St. Pius X parish in Chula Vista for the funeral of its former Pastor Monsignor Don Kulleck on Monday, January 22nd were San Diego Diocese Bishop Robert McElroy, Auxiliary Bishop John Dolan, and Father Joe Carroll. Each spoke of their fond memories of “Father Don” who passed away this year at the age of 91. Their words echoed their mutual recollections that Fr. Kulleck took an unusu-ally personal interest in caring for everyone who was ever a member of his flock. The Call Out response was also large due to the fact that Msgr. Don was so well known and loved by several generations during his service as a priest.

SK Lee Baesler Weds Leigh Merola On a beautiful Friday afternoon, February 2nd, Lee Baesler received the sacrament of matrimony in front of a record crowd. The entire Mission Choir was in the balcony singing so gloriously. Fourteen Sir Knights were there in traditional regalia and swords. Yes, it was the wedding of the century. After the wedding, guests were invited to go to Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church for a reception. The Sir Knights of Balboa Assembly wish Lee and Leigh a very happy married life. The couple will be taking a honeymoon trip to Rome, Italy. What a beautiful couple.
