What is EMS?

• An EMS is a continual improvement loop in which a facility:

1) identifies activities with environmental impacts 2) selects the most significant of these for improvement 3) develops improvement procedures, and 4) reevaluates its performance each year

Our Environmental Management System (EMS) is a combination of policies, forms and management practices that help the CNRC address our impact on the environment.

• EMS applies to all activities, products and services of the CNRC.

• It allows us to look at all aspects of our work and focus on the areas where our efforts have the greatest positive effect on the environment.

• Employees can provide comments, input and concerns to the EMS Committee

• Paper Recycling Efforts • Minimize operational cost of paper recycling • Small minority-owned vendor identified for recycling • 1,900 lbs of paper recycled (few months)

• Reduced radiographic film developers from 5 to 2 • Toner Cartridge Recycling - 53

• Toner recycling emphasized - 61 • Paper Recycling

• Space heater elimination • 15 total collected

What can you do?

1. Take an interest in EMS. Ask questions, consider the environmental impacts in your area. Make suggestions for improvement.

2. Participate in recycling. Don’t trash unwanted paper, batteries, and metal.

3. Review current processes. Look for new technologies that reduce waste generation.

4. Bring problems or ideas to any EMS committee member. 5. Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. 6. Be a “Good Steward”.
