KNP DATABASE

PRESENTATION The KNP Database has been realised for a very easy and practical use. The main objective is to store and manage the information collected by the eco-guards patrols. Information is of different types:

§ Game guard Patrol Forms § Wildlife Monitoring Sheet § Human Activity Monitoring Sheet § Library Items Management

For each type, the database allows storing information and extracting selected information.

When launched, the KNP Database menu appears as above.

1 – GAME GUARD PATROL FORMS Select the Game Guard Patrol Forms feature from the Main menu. A list of forms is displayed.

Game Guard Patrol Forms main list Double click on any line or Modify button cause a Game Guard Patrol Form to be displayed.

General information General information on Game Guard Patrol form is displayed on the left of the main screen.

Record of Offences Record on Offences information is accessed using the Record of Offences button. Information is displayed as lines and columns.

Record on Offences information Use the Pop-up menu to enter Reason for Arrest, Location, Species and Exhibits information.

Up to 10 Records of Offences can be stored.

Hunting Pressures Hunting Pressures information is accessed using the Hunting Pressures button. Information is displayed as lines and columns.

Hunting Pressures information Use the Pop-up menu to enter Hunting Pressures and Location information. Up to 10 Hunting Pressures lines can be stored.

Wildlife Sighted Wildlife Sighted information is accessed using the Wildlife Sighted button. Information is displayed as lines and columns.

Physical Features Physical Features information is accessed using the Physical Features button. Information is displayed as lines and columns.

Notes and Approvals Notes and Approvals information are designed for the Conservator.

When approved by the Conservator, an approval date can be entered. This date in displayed on the main Game Guard Patrol forms list.

Preferences Information

Important : Preferences information is accessible only by the Conservator or authorized persons.

Preferences information menu Starting from this menu, you can access the different information elements of the database. This elements most be entered before you can use the database in good conditions.

§ Eco-guards § Locations § Species § Exhibits § Reasons of Arrest § Hunting Pressure Types § Transects

Wildlife Monitoring Use the Wildlife Monitoring feature from the main menu to access the Wildlife Monitoring sheets list. From this list you can Modify a sheet or create a New Sheet. Each Wildlife Monitoring sheet in made of 2 different sections:

§ The sheet header § An unlimited number of observation lines

Enter the header information first.

Wild life Monitoring sheet header Use then: The New button to create a new line or the Modify button to modify an existing line The Delete button to suppress a line (information is lost)

Wildlife Monitoring information screen Enter the information. Use the Save feature to save the monitoring line or the Save and Continue to go on entering information When finish, use the Save button from the sheet screen to save the complete Sheet.

Human Activity Monitoring Use the Human Activity Monitoring feature from the main menu to access the Human Activity sheets list. From this list you can Modify a sheet or create a New Sheet. Each Human Activity Monitoring sheet in made of 2 different sections:

Library database The Library Database is a very simple one, mostly intended to:

§ Store main information about the items of the KNP Library § Quickly find any item § Store information about books which have been taken away by external people

Searching an Item You can search Items within the Library Database by typing a word (or expression) in the search zone and clicking the Search button.

Search zone and Search button All Items containing the word (or expression) will appear in a list as follow:

List of found Items Click the Modify button to display and modify the Item main screen.

You can enter more information using the Description of the Item button

Additional information about Library Item You can enter up to 2 x 250 characters text.

Extracting information from the Database The database is provided with a very simple tool, you can use to extract information from the database.

Extracting information main screen Enter 2 dates and specify 1 or many locations and use the Search button to extract the information. You can use the Extract all… button to extract the complete database information.

In both case, the information will be identified and transferred to Excel. An Excel sheet is automatically displaying the information corresponding to your research.

Excel display information You can use Excel (Microsoft Corporation) to Sort, Improve the Display, Save and Print the information.

Maintenance functions Different maintenance functions are provided. These functions are not to be used in normal use of the database.

Maintenance menu

Export all files to Excel creates Excel files from the different files of the database. These files are store in c:\knp_database\save_xls folder. Export all files to dBASE III creates dBASE III files from the different files of the database. These files are store in c:\knp_database\save_db3 folder. Statistics on Database Files provides information on the number of information entered in the database.

Backuping Information

Caution

Database backuping is high-importance matter.

If you don’t backup your database information every day, all the data will be lost if your computer fails.

To proced to Backup,

1 - Identify the KNP_DATABASE on your disk 2 – Activate the mouse right-click when selecting the KNP_DATABASE folder 3 – Select the 1st option in the Winzip menu : Add to Zip File 3 – Enter the name of the ZIP file to create 4 – Activate the ADD option 5 – The ZIP file is crated, copy it on the floppy disk

Installing the database on a new computer To install the Database on a new computer, you need:

- The CD Rom With the KNP_SETUP.EXE file - Your last ZIP backup file Proceed as follow:
