The Koehler Bortnick Team takes many opportunities

every year to give back to the Kansas City area. We are

proud to have contributed to and are active in over 20

charitable organizations. We believe that it is important to consistently be involved in the

communities in our city and touch lives in a positive way.

Personally, I enjoy being a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I believe it’s essential to fund research and contribute resources – both time and money – to families touched by this disease. This year I have also decided to be involved in the “Dancing with the Kansas City Stars” event, presented by Cristo Rey Kansas City. I invite you to learn more about this fantastic school that provides low income families with extraordinary educational opportunities.

Dancing with the Kansas City Stars is a star-

studded event featuring local “celebrities” who

dance and compete. This year’s event takes place

on March 24th 2012. The event benefits a very

important organization: Cristo Rey Kansas City.

Cristo Rey is dedicated to breaking the cycle of

poverty through education and student work experiences.

The high school provides education enhanced by an innovative corporate work study program to

culturally diverse students with economic need.

Help Cristo Rey by voting for Heather!

The school serves poverty-level students who would not be able to receive a college prep education otherwise. This education is combined with hands-on learning at work-study jobs around the metro area. The odds are stacked against these students, but with Cristo Rey, the students have hope for the future and the tools to get to college and beyond. In the Spring of 2010, Cristo Rey celebrated its first graduating class, and all the graduates were accepted to college!

This year’s 2nd annual Areola Angels Charity Auction & Golf Tournament was more successful than our own Kathy Koehler could have imagined.

Kathy began her charity, Areola Angels, in 2009 in an effort to contribute to her community and breast cancer research, after having become a breast cancer survivor herself.

This year’s charity auction and golf tournament not only raised money for AVON’s breast cancer research, but also Higher M-Pact. Kathy first learned of Higher M-PACT after hearing founder, Tyrone Flowers, speak about his life and his motivation for establishing the local urban youth charity.

The night of the auction, Kansas City’s finest gathered at the breath-taking home of Els Thermote & Laurent Vannest to have fun bidding on items donated by individuals & business’ throughout the KC metro. Some of the exciting items up for bid were mul-tiple tropical vacations, donated by Travel Concepts, jewelry donated by Meierotto Midwest Jewelers, a $2,000 shopping spree from Gail’s Harley Davidson, and more.

Kansas City’s caring community raised $108,000 allowing an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young men and women all over the metro.
