Koondrook Primary School Principal’s Report Cluster Swimming Sports Yesterday we had a perfect day for the Murray Plains Cluster Swimming Sports, a big difference to last year! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came along to support the children and lend a helping hand with the events; we could not run the sports without your help. Congratulations to everyone who participated, simply having a go meant you earned a point for our school. It was great to see students going out of their comfort zones and really having a go at things that they may have found challenging and doing it with big smiles on their faces. Congratulations Charli for being the joint winner of the Year 6 Champion Girl Award. It was a terrific achievement Charli, and a well-deserved award. This means our swimming program has come to an end. There are a lot of hours put into the planning and preparing for the swimming program. Miss Flood has done an amazing job coordinating our swimming program and organising the swimming sports. Thank you to the many people who gave of their time to make it happen through helping with lessons, setting up the pool for the sports, helping with judging and marshalling of the students. We appreciate all your help. In order for us to do our best by the children could you please let us know if there are any areas you believe where we can improve the swimming program and/or sports? School Assembly The Year 2/3 class will be hosting the assembly on Friday at 3:00pm. Everyone is welcome to join us in the Project space. Zone Swimming On Monday Montanna, Charli, Pyper and Maddie W will travel to Swan Hill to represent the school at the Swan Hill and District Zone Swimming Carnival. We wish the girls the best of luck and hope they enjoy the experience and the challenge. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent Teacher Interviews are scheduled during Week 6 – Tuesday 7th March - Thursday 9th March. They will be conducted over three days. Please fill in your preferred times on the attached form and send back to school by Tuesday 28th February so the roster can be finalised. Fund Raising This week we raised $205 at the Mates Royal Hotel raffle and $135 at the Farmers Market. Thank you to all the parents, children and teachers who helped out at the two events last weekend. We appreciate the support of everyone. School Council Vacancies All government schools in Victoria have a school council. They are legally constituted bodies that are given powers to set the key directions of the school within state-wide guidelines. In doing this, a school council is able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students. Generally, the term of office for all members is two years. Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. Those parents who become active on a school council find their involvement satisfying in itself and may also find that their children feel a greater sense of belonging. No special experience is needed to run for a member of school council. Nominations for the 2017/2018 School Council have commenced. Retiring members of School Council are: Narndi Carter, Ian Faul, Anneke Den Houting and Angela Turner. Koondrook Primary School would like to thank them for all of their hard work during their time as School Council members. Retiring members with students attending our school are most welcome to renominate for School Council. We have 5 parent vacancies and 2 community vacancies. Nomination forms are available from the office. You may self-nominate so you don’t need a seconder. Nominations close on Thursday 2nd March 2017. Please contact me if you have any questions. School Uniforms All Foundation Students who have a health care card are eligible to apply for one set of school uniforms for free. Please see Judi on a Tuesday or Thursday if you would like to apply. Foundation/Prep Students A reminder to all families of Prep students that today was the last Wednesday off for them. Next week will be the first full week of school for Prep students.

Head Lice There has been a reported case of head lice/nits at school. Please can all families check their children’s hair for lice/nits and treat if necessary. If we keep on top of this pest early it doesn’t become such a big problem. See the advice further in the newsletter on natural ways to treat hair. Graduation Our new 2/3 teacher, Cassie Altimari, could not be at the swimming sports yesterday due to having to attend her Graduation Ceremony from Deakin University. Pictured is Cassie with her degree at the event. Congratulations Cassie and best wishes for a long and fulfilling career in teaching. Amanda Bradford Parents Club Fundraising Committee It’s the start of a new year and the Parents Club would like to welcome anyone interested in helping out. Next Wednesday the 1st of March, around 9am, we will be meeting at the Long Paddock for coffee to discuss the years fundraising. We would love to see some new faces come and get involved as many hands make light work. Feel free to bring along the kids and enjoy a coffee. Megan Hall

Week 4 – Getting Back to the Table When’s the last time you ate dinner at the table as a family? Sitting down as a family over a meal, turning the TV off, putting away phones and other devices and just talking and listening to each other is a great way to connect with your family. Why not try these conversation starters:

- “What was the best part of your day and why?” - "What are you looking forward to most during

holidays?" - "What do you want to be or do when you grow up?" - "If you could be a superhero, what kind of power

would you have?" - "If you could celebrate your birthday in any way you

like, what would you do?" For more conversation starters head to http://backtothetable.org.au/
