Foto Fiesta, the annual photography fest was organised

by ‘Smriti’- the Photography Club from 28th February to 5

th

March, 2016. It was a collection of workshops, competitions

and guest lectures on designing & photography.

Mr. Raghav Ramaiah, a renowned event photographer

inaugurated ‘Foto Fiesta’ and appreciated our School’s

photography club for having a perpetual stride towards

photography and making it accessible to everyone. An

advanced workshop on photography was conducted by

Mr. Chetan Karur, which garnered appreciation from the

participants and faculty members.

Addresses by notable photographers from Bengaluru like

Mr. Nishant Ratnakaran, Mr. Ankit Banerjee, Ms. Hema

Narayanan and Ms. Kirti Nair inspired many students to

pursue photography along with their jobs and expounded

on the evolving perception in careers.

A panel discussion on different aspects of design by

Mr. Arnab Chakravarty and Mr. Divyam Khurana reaped

appreciation from all present. The creativity & presentation

skills which came to the fore through the photography

exhibits compiled by Smriti were lauded by the guests.

As is the tradition, ASE-B celebrated Mahashivarathri

with the program ‘Hangout with Shiva’ from 6.00 PM on 7th

March to 6.00 AM the next day. About 150 to 200 zealous

students took part in the program whilst the whole

auditorium echoed of the ‘Maha Mrithyunjaya Mantra’

which created a peaceful, serene and soothing ambience.

Bhajans from the ‘Bhajan Mandali’ mesmerised the

gathering and added a spiritual sillage in the atmosphere.

‘Sati’, a play staged by ‘Abhinaya’-the Drama Club left the

audience spellbound. This year, Amritians were asked to

write their set of resolutions on paper and cast it into ‘Agni’

or holy fire as a part of ‘Sankalp’. The highlight of the

festivities was the artificial graveyard called ‘Smashaan

Yatra’, which was created by the students to promote the

notion of ‘Life After Death’.

The students and faculty found that the atmosphere was

conducive for spiritual development and were enlightened

by the different facets of the show.

‘Maardhani’-the Literary Club

of ASE-B hosted a week-long

event titled ‘LitBuzz’ from 8th to

11th March 2016. The objective

of this event was to instil good

communication and public

speaking skills in all.

The event began with a debate

organized in the ‘Turncoat

Style’, which had participants

vying to convey their points for

& against the given topic. The

Turncoat has a special feature -

the participants are required to

talk alternatively for & against the topic. The winner

Mr. Shashank Raj (S6) was awarded first for his spontaneity

& eloquence with Mr. Dhawal (S2) coming a close second.

The second event, ‘Know Your Leader’

was a politics based event where

speakers from different political parties

attempted to convince the onlookers of

the veracity of their arguments. The

winner Mr. Praveen (S2) was decided

based on audience votes with Ms. Harini

The dawn of the 14

th of

March 2016 brought with it

anticipation & enthusiasm, as

Mata Amritanandamayi Math

in Kengeri, Bengaluru hosted

the divine presence of our

beloved ‘AMMA’, Satguru

Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.

The day began with rhythmic chants of Sahasranama. The

ritualistic chanting and serene atmosphere created a

conducive environment for holistic development. The

devotees participated in the ‘Rahu-Kethu’ Puja which began

at 7:30 in the morning. The rendition of bhajans by

AMMA, Swamijis and the devotees entranced the audience,

making the atmosphere ethereal. The Satsang by AMMA

was filled with anecdotes and addressed many issues that the

crowd could connect to. The most awe-inspiring segment

though for all present was Amma’s darshan. Post lunch

session saw AMMA’s unconditional love for all her children

by way of her warmth filled hugs. The darshan continued till

1:00 AM in the morning.

A puja and prayer to Shani Bhagawan marked the beginning

of the next day (15th March 2016), after which AMMA’s

darshan continued.

The evening witnessed a thought provoking program

presented by the students of ASE-B with socio-cultural

themes. A melodious medley by ‘Raaga’-the Music Club

gave credence to the fact that love transcends all barriers

while another paid tribute to women & the roles they fulfil

in the society.

A touching stage play by ‘Abhinaya’-the Drama Club

highlighted the decadence of society into the concept of

‘Old Age Homes’ for ill & aged people, and a mime

illustrated the plight of farmers in our agro-based society.

Intriguing dances by the ‘Narthana’-the Dance club on

myriad themes including women empowerment and

corruption were followed up with ‘Madari’, a statement of

unconditional surrender to the Almighty who governs every

stage of our lives.

knowing syntax for one tends to find seemingly

inexplicable errors frequently. Keeping this in mind, the

forum came up with a perky event called Bugster. Given a

set of fifteen questions, the contestants in teams of two

were required to figure out all possible errors in the code

snippet in the shortest time. The winning team

comprising Mr. Allan Rufas and Mr, Akshay Ram, with a

total score of nine were awarded exciting gift vouchers.

In order to help students understand advanced aspects of

the different fields of computer networking, FACE invited

The IEEE-WIE Student Chapter organized:

IEEE- WIE Tech Taboo

Was conducted as a part of Women’s Day celebrations in

the campus on 8th March 2016. It was based on a popular

game turned technical word play which attracted an

enthusiastic crowd. It created a platform wherein the

IEEE-WIE members socialized and inspired non-

members into becoming possible registrants. The event

concluded with the selection of the top 6 teams in the

campus who would be participating in the finale due to

happen in the coming weeks. Thus the event proved to be

a platform showcased by IEEE-WIE to bring to fore the

competitive spirit, word play skills, technical verbosity,

constructive energy and creativity of the participants.

IEEE-WIE STAR

An Outreach Program under the banner of STAR

(Student-Teacher & Research

Engineer / Scientist) was

organized on 26th March,

2016. As a part of the

program, Renuka High

School, a government school

nearby was identified and 50

girl students of class VIII &

IX along with two faculty

members were brought to the

campus. The event was co-

ordinated by Dr. K. Deepa,

IEEE-WIE-ASE Chair and

conducted by Ms. V.S.

Kirthika Devi, a faculty

member in the Department of EEE and IEEE Members.

The mentoring program started off with a fun and concise

introduction to computers in

the Simulation Lab in the

Department of EEE. The

students got hands-on

experience in Paint and

Microsoft Word. Each &

every student was brilliant

and those with remarkable

work won prizes. The

students remained enthusias-

tic throughout the session.

The aim of STAR program is to address the growing

concern that at a young age girls are discouraged from

careers in Mathematics, Science and Engineering. This

productive event could give students an insight into

technical education and motivate them in pursuing their

careers.
