TOPIC- Transition and Changes
The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to start thinking about their new school year and new class and the changes that
happen in life. (Resources can be found at the bottom of the pack)
Transition Superheroes
Superhero Profile –
You are about to become a transition
superhero. Think what your
superhero name would be, your
secret identity (your real name), your
super powers (what subjects /
activities are you good at), your
weaknesses (things you would like to
get better at) and ways that you are
going to change the world (their
hopes and dreams for the future).
Superhero Shield Design –
Every superhero needs a shield.
Create a design to match your
superhero character. Can you think
of pictures to add to the design (to
highlight their strengths / talents /
interests)?
Superhero Outlines –
Take a photo of your head and print a
superhero template. Cut out the
photo and stick it to the body of the
superheroes and then decorate the
Music
Think about how music is always
changing?How do we change musical
sounds?
Watch the video about Dynamics to
hear some loud and soft sounds.
https://safeyoutube.net/w/KvHM
Watch the video about Tempo to
hear some fast and slow beats.
https://safeyoutube.net/w/6wHM
We call these Musical Elements.
Rhythm Maker
Using Chrome Music Lab choose your
own band to play different rhythms.
Click on the dots to add a musical
beat.
The arrow on the right changes the
style of rhythms with a new band
and set of instruments.
Will you choose fast or slow
rhythms?
Saying Farewell
Ending the school year is a time for
you to say farewell to current
teachers and sometimes to
classmates too. Talk with a grown up
about the friendships you have made
this year. Who is important to them
and why? What are they going to
miss most about
their
teacher and
support
staff? Draw
around your
hand on paper
and then
carefully cut it out. On the template,
draw or write a goodbye message
your teacher. On each finger, write
the qualities that this special person
has displayed e.g. kindness, being
helpful, etc.
Setting some goals
Read or listen to the story ‘Giraffes
Can’t Dance’. Talk about how Gerald
the giraffe showed determination
when trying to achieve his goals.
What would you like to achieve next
year, e.g. ‘to improve my handwriting’,
‘count in tens’ or ‘show more kindness
to others’. After this, choose 5
things from the list which you would
like to achieve during your next
school year. Work with a family
member to create a vision board.
This can be done by cutting out
pictures that represent the goals,
pasting onto card and decorating.

PSHE/ Wellbeing
As continue with lock down procedures, we would like to have a focus on the children’s wellbeing and these tasks should help you to focus on that.
Yoga for children
Yoga is a great way to help to improve
our mental wellbeing.
Cosmic Kids Yoga has so many different
stories.
GoNoodle also has some amazing
resources. Try their Bee Breath video,
or any of their stretching videos. They
have a whole category for mindful
videos.
What makes you special?
Think about what
makes you
special. What
makes you
different to
other people?
Ask family members what they
think makes you special. Record the
things that make you special on a
person template.
You could create a collage using cut
out pictures from magazines that
represent the things that make you
special, or, you could draw pictures
to represent the things that make
you special. Talk about the
importance of being unique
together.
Friendship Jar
Think of all the fun and good times
you have previously had with your
friends. Using coloured paper draw
or write down your favourite
friendship memories. You could use
blue paper for future things you
would like to do
together. Use a jam
jar or a plastic bottle
to collect the
memories; you could
even personalise their jar with
decoration.
I am an amazing person!
We are all an amazing person. Have a
think of what makes you amazing.
Look at the sheet below and think of
all the reasons that make you
amazing.

Maths
This section is split into ‘basic skills’ and ‘Main Task’. Please choose a section to complete depending on how confident your child is at maths. If
your child might need an extra boost or reminder of basic skills in maths, then please complete the ‘basic skills’ tasks.
From now on our maths will really focus in on the 4 operations and ensuring that the children’s basic skills are kept going for when they return to school. It
is so important to continue practising number bonds to 10 and 20, counting in their 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and beginning to learn their 2, 5, and 10 times tables.
Here are some things to keep doing as well as the tasks below:
● Work on Numbots - how many levels can you complete?
● Work on MyMaths- see what we have added this week to continue your learning!
● Play on Hit the Button - focus on number bonds, halves, doubles and times tables. You could also try some of these other activities - The Gingerbread
Man, Place Value Basketball, Mental Maths Game, Placing a number on a number line, Number fact families, Minus Mission
If you are in year 1, start with the basic skills section, but feel free to move on to the main task if you are ready for it!
Basic Skills: Main Tasks: This week we are going to look at measurement. When measuring weight (mass), we
measure in grams (g). When measuring liquid (capacity), we measure in millilitres (mls).
Find 3 objects in your house and think about which one is the heaviest. How
do you know it is the heaviest? Is the biggest one always the heaviest?
If you have scales, use them to weigh it. See if you can read the number if
it is a 2 digit number. If it is 3 digits, read each digit and ask an adult to
help you read the whole number!
Find a selection of objects in your house. How heavy are these objects? Hold 2
objects in your hands (1 in each). Which object is the heavier object? Can you order
them from lightest to heaviest?
Challenge: can you use scales to see how many grams they are. Can you add together
two weights?
KS1 Home Learning 6th July 2020
Follow a recipe and see if you can measure the ingredients using scales. Make sure
you measure the ingredients correctly otherwise the recipe will not work.
Here is a simple cupcake recipe you could use.
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/vanilla-cupcakes
Can you make sure that the scales match the number on the recipe?
How many cupcakes will you have left if you eat 1?
Could you share your cupcakes
between you and the person
making them? How many would
you get each?
Follow a recipe and see if you can measure the ingredients using scales. Make sure
you measure the ingredients correctly otherwise the recipe will not work.
Here is a simple cupcake recipe you could use.
https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/vanilla-cupcakes
Use a timer to help you count the time, or if you want a challenge, try using a clock
to work out what time it will be when your cupcakes are ready!
How can you arrange the cupcakes
to show different number
sentences? For example, these
cupcakes could be showing:
4 + 4 + 4 = 12
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12
3 x 4 = 12
4 x 3 = 12
Find different containers around your house. Fill them with water. Which container holds the most water? Which container holds the least amount of water? How many of
one container will it take to fill another container?
KS1 Home Learning 6th July 2020
Use a measuring jug, look at the lines on the side of the jug. Can you measure different amounts of water so that the jug is empty, nearly empty, half full, nearly full and
full.
Get 3 different sized containers. Use a measuring jug to measure 100mls. Does 100mls look the same in each container? Why?
