1 General
1.1 Purpose of the programsThe KUKA Sim product family consists of three members:
KUKASimViewer is a free of charge 3D viewer which allows you and your customers to lookat simulations made in KUKA Sim Layout and KUKA Sim Pro.
KUKA Sim Layout is a unique program for creating 3D layouts of production systems withKUKA robots. You can quickly create and compare different layouts, equipment selectionsand robot tasks, both on site and off site with your suppliers and customers. KUKA SimLayout is thus the ideal simulation tool for project engineers and the sales team of yourcompany.
KUKA Sim Pro has been developed for the off--line programming of KUKA robots. Theproduct allows cycle time analysis, robot program generation and is connected in real--timeto KUKA OfficeLite, the virtual robot controller of KUKA. KUKA Sim Pro is also used forbuilding the parametrical components used in KUKA Sim Pro and KUKA Sim Layout. KUKAOfficeLite is included in KUKA Sim Pro.
1.2 Minimum hardware requirements
1.2.1 KUKA Sim Viewer and KUKA Sim Layout
The minimum machine requirement is a 128 MB, Pentium III 750 MHz computer, or a simi-larly specified laptop with a display capability of 1024 x 768 pixels and 16 bit color resolution.A two--button mouse is required. The graphics card should support OpenGL.
1.2.2 KUKA Sim Pro
Theminimummachine requirement is a 256MB, Pentium III 1000MHz computer, or a simi-larly specified laptop with a display capability of 1024 x 768 pixels and 16 bit color resolution.A two--button mouse is required. The graphics card should support OpenGL.
1.3 Recommended requirements for a power userThe recommended machine requirement for a power user is an AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz orPentium4 1.5 GHz computer with 512 MB memory, or a similarly specified laptop with anactive matrix display, and a hardware accelerated OpenGL graphics card – for example aGeForce4 card. Internet access is desirable.
1.4 Supported operating systemsKUKA Sim 1.1 has been designed for Microsoft 2000 with Service Pack 1 or higher andWindows XP with Service Pack 1 or higher. You may download the free service packs fromMicrosoft’s home page.
1.5 Other requirementsThe user must have an e--mail address to accept the license for the KUKA Sim programs.
For KUKA Sim Pro, Windows must be installed in single--processor mode. Uni-- or multi--processor mode is not supported.

1.6 License schemesKUKA Sim Viewer does not require a license. The user can register his version with KUKAand then gets a registered version. If the user does not register, KUKA Sim Viewer will ask,every time that KUKA Sim Viewer is started, for a registration of the KUKA Sim Viewer. Theuser can run KUKA Sim Viewer without a registration but is encouraged to register.
KUKA Sim Layout and KUKA Sim Pro require a license to run the program. This license canonly be used on the computer for which the license has been generated. Two licenses areavailable:
G Evaluation license for 30 days free use
G Full license

G KUKA Sim guides you through a form where your contact information can be filled in.Specify that you want to have a temporary license.
G A request for a temporary license is generated

G KUKA generates an evaluation license for 30 days
G Start the KUKA Sim Product for the second time and load the license
G The KUKA Sim product can be used for 30 days.
1.6.2 License scheme for full licenses
G Install the KUKA Sim Product
G Install the KUKA Sim Components
G Start the KUKA Sim Product for the first time
G KUKA Sim guides you through a form where your contact information can be filled in.Specify that you want a full license.
G A request for a full license is generated
G Send this request for a full license to KUKA ([email protected])
G Upon receipt of the order for a full license, KUKA generates the full license. The licenseis sent to you by e--mail. This order is preferably sent by fax to your local KUKA subsid-iary.
G Start the KUKA Sim Product for the second time and load the license
G The KUKA Sim product can be used.
1.6.3 Notes
A license is only valid for the computer on which the license request is generated and is onlyvalid for the current configuration of the computer. If you want to upgrade to another com-puter, please contact KUKA at [email protected].
A fax order form for the KUKA Sim products can be found on the installation CD--ROM ofthe KUKA Sim products.

2 Installation of the KUKA Sim productsThe different products from the KUKA Sim product family can be installed by running the dif-ferent installers indicated below.
For KUKA Sim Viewer use: setupKUKASimViewer_1.1.exe
For KUKA Sim Layout use: setupKUKASimLayout_1.1.exe
For KUKA Sim Pro use: setupKUKASimPro_1.1.exe
Follow theprompts to control the location and setupprocess as indicated in the figuresbelow.The installation process is the same for the different products from the KUKA Sim productfamily.
Be sure to log in as a user with administration rights.
The program as well as the components can be placed locally or on a network drive.The components which are installed later take up approximately 30 MB. On a notebookcomputer, it is advisable to install the program and the components locally.
The following screenshots were made during installation of KUKA Sim Pro, and are,apart from the captions, similar to the installation windows of KUKA Sim Viewer andKUKA Sim Layout.

KUKA OfficeLite is only distributed with KUKA Sim Pro, not with the other products.

4 Installation of the component libraryThe component library contains more than 500 ready--to--use components, several demolayouts and the tutorials for the KUKA Sim products. Although the KUKA Sim products canrun without the components being installed, it is highly recommended to install thecomponent library. The component library is installed using the program
SetupKUKASimComponents_1.1.exe
The component library can only be installed after the different KUKA Sim products havebeen installed. The location of the component directory cannot be set here, but is setwhen installing the relevant KUKA Sim product.

5 Generating the license requestThe first time that the KUKA Sim program is started, a license request is generated. Thislicense request can be sent by e--mail to KUKA. If the user is connected to the Internet andthe proxy settings are OK, the license request is sent to KUKA automatically. Based uponthis license request KUKA can generate the license for you. This generated license is sentto you by e--mail. Be sure that your e--mail address is typed in correctly.

6 Loading the licenseThe license file is sent to youby e--mail. Once you receive the license, theKUKASimproductcan be started and the license can be loaded. The license file is of the form
UserName ProductName (1_1)license for ComputerName.dat
and is added as an attachment to the e--mail sent to you. Save the attachment where youcan access it when KUKA Sim asks you to load it.
Please keep the license file in a safe place. When you reinstall KUKA Sim, the licensemust be reloaded.
A license for KUKA Sim Pro can also be used for KUKA Sim Layout and for KUKA SimViewer. A license for KUKA Sim Layout can be used for KUKA Sim Viewer, but not forKUKA Sim Pro. A license for KUKA Sim Viewer can only be used for KUKA SimViewer.

Open the layout Local Components � DemoLayouts � PressWork � Press ChainerKR60P.
Wait until the layout is loaded.
Press the button Fill.
Press the button Orbit.

10 UninstallationThe different programs from the KUKA Sim product family and the component library canbe uninstalled using the following procedure.
1. Select Start – Settings – Control Panel – Add or Remove Programs
2. Select the program to be removed
3. Press the button Change/Remove to remove the program
