Seputarbali.com reports that in a final session of the current term of Ba l i ' s Badung H o u s e o f Representatives (DPRD-Badung), legislators ratified rules for Smoking-free area for the regency, addressing both hotels and government buildings.

The secretary for Bali Child Protection Agency, Titik Suhariyati, welcomed the ratification of no-smoking rules. She was initially concerned that delays would occur to the ratification of rules and penalties for smoking in public places in Bali's southernmost regency.

T h e I n d o n e s i a n Meteorological, Climate and Geophysical Agency (BKMG) has projected that the solar eclipse will take place May 9-10, (UTC) 2013 will pass over much of the central and eastern parts of Indonesia.

An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, partially or totally obscuring the Sun. Annular eclipses cause the sun to appear as a ring (annulus) around the sun.

Gday again to all the loyal readers of the newspaper and welcome to another weekly blurt. An amazing week in the footy tipping with me thinking I was special getting the full tote for the week until I looked at the board and saw that everyone else did the same thing (almost everyone else) and I believe the Ferret even got the margin call for the Friday night game..

Speaking of which was a good one and while I sat with a few good friends and enjoyed the all you can eat roast at the Kuta Town Houses, I enjoyed

a great conversation with an old mate about living and working in Bali. Old mate went on to explain how they were sick and a little bit tired of people thinking they have this special life of luxury while living here as the waves lap up on the lawn of their house and they spend all day sipping pina coladas and having their toes rubbed. They went on to say that if anyone that visits them up here again tells them that “they are lucky” they will explode. I guess to a major extent I believe what they are saying as when you are working and living in Bali it is exactly that, your working. It's not an endless cocktail drinking, massage having, relaxation time, it's a job.

For many of the people that come and visit, they are here on holidays and they don't have to get up and roll to work every day. These are actually the lucky ones and they get to sleep in and have a restaurant breakfast when they surface. They stay out all night at some of the best party spots the island has to offer and generally have a swag of cash to support a 2-3 week run having fun.

For us folk that stay and work here it is a constant battle with the language barrier, unless of course you are smart enough to learn the lingo, and its also a constant battle with the culture which really does take some learning. Things are so different from back home and I guess after a while you crave those silly things that we've grow up knowing as standard, for instance drinking the water from the tap, electricity bills being sent by mail, a structured and adhered to road system, why it was only the other day I saw a bumper sticker on a car that said “Im a vet which means I can drive like an animal” which got me thinking and I now realize how many gynecologists there are on the roads here.

It's a completely different kettle of fish living in South East Asia, and one that for many of us that do stick around tend to warm to after a while. It is a great place to live if you are patient and can let a lot of things slide, but, if you're a motivated individual and you want to reinvent the wheel, don't bother. Things are done at a pace that one could say reinvents the word slow and if you try to make it happen any faster it will take even longer. Take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the island for exactly what it is.

On the flip side of the coin, if you are looking for a place to retire, it is arguably one of the best places in the world to do so. The Balinese make the place roll at a constant pace (perfect for the mature gentleman) Not much worries these lot and they have very long relaxing lives. At the end of the day it's a great place to be and when you do slow down and take the time to “smell the roses” things don't seem that hard to deal with.

Ok folks that's about my lot for this week. Next week we have a few new sponsors that are jumping and have already jumped on board so I would like to introduce these businesses to you. Beggars' BanquetBali's Capital of Denpasar Studying from Banjarmasin, Kalimantan on How to Reduce Street Beggars and Vagrants

The State News Agency Antara reports that officials from Bali's capital city of Denpasar are studying strategies and tactics used to reduce street beggars and vagrants practiced in the South Kalimantan city of Banjarmasin.

A Denpasar munic ipal official, Ketut Mister during a visit to Banjarmasin said, “The problem of managing beggars (in Banjarmasin) is not much different with what we experience (in Bali). Today the mode of operations of beggars has changed; they use coordinators.”

According to Mister, local regulations to prevent, deter, capture and educate beggars, whi le persuading the public not to hand money out to street urchins has done little to actually reduce the number of beggars on Bali's streets.

And, while Banjarmasin faces much the same situation as Bal i , that South Kal imantan c o m m u n i t y h a s b e e n m o r e successful in keeping beggars off their streets by introducing a series of “halfway” houses where beggars and street urchins apprehended by the police must spend a period of "training" before being returned to their home cities.

M i t e r a d m i t t e d t h a t Denpasar does not yet have halfway houses for beggars and street urchins due to a lack of available land to accommodate the construction of such facilitates.

A Banjarmasin city official, Rusdiansyah, told the visiting Denpasar officials that substantial funds are needed to handle the problems of beggars and street urchins.

“We have a half-way house where the beggars are placed (before returning home) to act as a deterrent and as a place of training. But this requires funding for consumables

and our budget is limited,” explained Rusdiansyah.

Agus Surono, the head of Social Services for Banjarmasin said the halfway houses are also used for housing the mentally ill. “At this time, our halfway house has 29 mentally ill people in residence,” said Surono.

Both Banjarmasin and Denpasar say that the majority of beggars and street urchins originate from areas outside the city in which they operate, with many hailing from areas outside the province.


Keeping it SimpleGovernment Cuts a Hasty Retreat on Plans for Two-Tiered Price Increase for Gasoline. Expect Higher Gas Prices in May

Suara Pembaruan reports that the government is cutting a hasty retreat from plans to introduce a two-tiered price structure this May at gasoline pumps, changing their original plans to establish lower prices for motorcycles and higher prices for four-wheeled vehicles.

The price hike is sought by the government in an effort to reduce the massive subsidy presently being absorbed by the State budget.

After the two-tiered pricing approach was widely criticized from many quarters of Indonesian society, the Government has reportedly decided to soon announce a single price for premium gas at the petro pumps.

l e s s t h a n R p . 6 , 5 0 0 (US$0.65) per liter to be charged to all vehicles for premium gasoline.

Jero Wacik, Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, said: “The possibility is that there will be a single price in accordance with the people's wishes, perhaps a price below Rp. 6,500 per liter.”

Wacik said the government must raise the price of gasoline to reduce the burden of the fuel subsidy, but asked the public for time to properly consider the final decision.

Continuing, Wacik said: “The Government has listened to the opinions of the people. The public knew there were two levels of pricing being considered for the the price of fuel. Many of the public told us it would be difficult (to have two prices). We (the government) would also face difficulties. We considered all these opinions.”

Separately, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Hatta Rajasa, told the press that the

Government is still studying introducing a single price increase for gasoline. Said Hatta: “We are studying one price (for gasoline). Actually, two-tiered pricing is the best solution, but operationally that would be very difficult.”

Many gas station operators in Indonesia have asked the government to use a single price system.

T h e A t t o r n e y General's office has interviewed 23 witnesses in connection with s u s p e c t e d corruption and malfeasance in t h e management of parking at Bali's N g u r a h R a i International Airport.

As reported by the State News Agency Antara, State Prosecutors suspect that Rp. 20 billion (US$2 million) may have been lost to the State th rough i l l ega l ac ts in connection with parking fees collected from the thousands of vehicles that pass through the airport each day.

T h e h e a d o f t h e information office at the State Prosecutor's office, Setia Untung Arimuladi, announced

via a press release issued in Jakarta that 23 items had been seized as evidence comprising letters, documents, office buildings and private residences.

“This includes plots of land covered in seven freehold land certificates, located on Jalan Raya By Pass Ngurah Rai, Perenenan and Tabanan with an estimated value of Rp. 15.1 b i l l ion , ” exp la ined Arimuladi.

I n v e s t i g a t i o n s i n connection with the Bali airport's parking operations by State Prosecutors have been underway since last year.

Four suspects have been named:

“MBA” the CEO of PT. Penata Sarana Bali (PT PSB)

“ I B ” t h e g e n e r a l manager of PT PSB

“MM” the operational manager of PT PSB

“RJS” the Administrative staff of PT PSB.

The four a r e b e i n g charged with c r i m i n a l corrupt ion in connection with t h e i r management of t h e p u b l i c

parking areas at Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport.

The parking concession was operated on a profit sharing basis with PT Angkasa Pura I – the State-owned company appointed to manage the airport.

PT PSB is accused with manipulating the computerized parking system between October 2008 and December 2011 resulting in losses to the State of Rp. 20.8 billion.

A Tourism CycleBali Capital of Denpasar Promises to Expand and Improve Bicycle Lane Network

The Bali Daily (Jakarta Post) reports Denpasar's Bicycle Paths are slated for revitalization, having fallen into decline since they were first launched with much fanfare in 2010.

Promoted as a way of reducing both traffic congestion and pollution, a 16.4-kilometer stretch of curb side bike paths were originally marked with painted lines and identified with suitable signage. In the intervening three years plans to expand the network were feared to h a v e b e e n l a r g e l y forgotten and the bike paths are now blocked by parked cars and motorcycles.

Denpasar Transportation Agency's traffic division head, Nyoman Sustiawan, said that hope still remains that the bike lane network will be revitalized and expanded, saying, “There has not been any maintenance

budget for the bike lanes in the past few years. However, this year, we expect to get some Rp 100-200 million (US$10,250-$20,500) from the revised provincial budget. The sum will be used for maintenance of the f ad ing l anes and maybe extending the lanes to a length of

some 20 km.” Plans are to add lanes in

areas surrounding schools, tourist area, markets and shopping areas of the city. Lanes are planned along Jl. Gunung Agung, Jl. Teuku Umar and Jl. Imam Bonjol.

Sustiawan explained how

efforts to expand bike pa ths i n Denpasa r we re complicated by factors of limitation of space on already congested streets. “We are unable to enforce regulations that ban on-street parking, because we receive little backup from the traffic police,” he said.

“ M o s t w a l k w a y s (sidewalks) also end up as parking space, anyway,” he lamented. Citing examples, he pointed to Jl. Gajah Mada and Jl. Kamboja – two streets that have wide sidewalks that are now used instead for off-street parking.

Bali is largely an unfriendly destination for pedestrians with a low level of “walkability” in the man downtown areas of the city.

City officials in Bali cite Pattaya in Thailand as an example where good governance can make a real difference by banning traffic in certain areas and providing viable public transport alternatives.

Vultures devour tourist in EuropeVultures have eaten a tourist in the Pyrenees before emergency services were able to reach her.

According to a report, the 52-year-old woman slipped and fell down a 300metre on the Pic de Pista after taking a short cut while walking with two friends.

Her body was devoured by Griffin vultures, leaving only bones, clothes and shoes, according to police.

‘Stoned wallabies make crop circles'Australian wallabies are eating opium poppies and creating crop circles as they hop around "as high as a kite", a government official has said.

L a r a G i d d i n g s , t h e attorney general for the island state of Tasmania, said the kangaroo-like marsupials were getting into poppy fields grown for medicine.

She was reporting to a parliamentary hearing on security for poppy crops.

Australia supplies about 50% of the world's legally-grown opium used to make morphine and other painkillers.

"The one interesting bit that I found recently in one of my briefs on the poppy industry was that we have a problem with wallabies entering poppy fields, getting as high as a kite and going

around in circles," Lara Giddings told the hearing.

"Then they crash," she added. "We see crop circles in the poppy industry from wallabies that are high."

Tasmanian Alkaloids, said the wallaby incursions were not very common, but other animals had also been spotted in the poppy fields acting unusually.

"There have been many stories about sheep that have eaten some of the poppies after harvesting and they all walk around in circles," he added.

Retired Tasmanian poppy farmer Lyndley Chopping also said he had seen strange behaviour from wallabies in his fields.

"They would just come and eat some poppies and they would go away,"

"They'd come back again and they would do their circle work in the paddock."

Karate masters 'have psychic abilities'Researchers have found karate masters can anticipate where an attack is coming from before their opponent has even moved and are now studying whether elite cricketers have the same ability.

A joint study by Murdoch University in Western Australian and R M I T U n i v e r s i t y i n Melbourne has found karate masters are able to anticipate how an opponent will strike even before that opponent has moved a muscle.

B y c o m p a r i n g n o v i ce s , s t a t e l e ve l c o m p e t i t o r s a n d international karate stars, it found experts and near-experts gathered vital visual information earlier than novices.

Most surprising was the

level of anticipation by experts who had a unique ability to use information from an opponent in a completely still stance, Murdoch University's Dr Sean Muller said.

“In the world of professional sports, the difference between standing on the podium and being on the sidelines comes down to milliseconds and centimetres, so

athletes need every advantage they can get,” he said.

The researchers are now working with Cricket Australia to look at how, and at what point, a

batsman recognises a bowler's delivery, in a bid to improve coaching.

The Alan Parsons Project were a Britishprogressive rockband, active between 1975 and 1990, consisting of singer Eric Woolfson and keyboardist Alan Parsons surrounded by a varying number of session musicians.Behind the revolving lineup and the regular sidemen, the true core of the Project was the duo of Parsons and Woolfson. Woolfson was a songwriter by profession, but also a composer and pianist. Parsons was a successful producer and accomplished engineer. Almost all songs on the band's albums are credited to "Woolfson/Parsons".History

Alan Parsons met Eric Woolfson in the canteen of Abbey Road Studios in the summer of 1974. Parsons had already acted as assistant engineer on the Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be, had recently engineered Pink Floyd'sThe Dark Side of the Moon, and had produced several acts for EMI Records. Woolfson, a songwriter and composer, was working as a session pianist; he had also composed material for a concept album idea based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe.

Parsons asked Woolfson to become his manager and Woolfson managed Parsons' career as a producer and engineer through a string of successes including Pilot, Steve Harley, Cockney Rebel, John Miles, Al Stewart, Ambrosia and The Hollies. Parsons commented at the time that he felt frustrated in having to accommodate the views of some of the musicians, which he felt interfered with his production. Woolfson came up with the idea of making an album based on developments in the film industry, where directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick were the focal

point of the film's promotion, rather than individual film stars. If the film industry was becoming a director's medium, Woolfson felt the music business might well become a producer's medium.

Recalling his earlier Edgar Allan Poe material, Woolfson saw a way to combine his and Parsons' respective talents. Parsons would produce and engineer songs written by the two, and the Alan Parsons Project was born. Their first album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination,

including major contributions by all members of Pilot and Ambrosia, was a success, reaching the Top 40 in the USBillboard 200chart. The song "The Raven" featured lead vocals by the actor Leonard Whiting, and, according to the 2007 remastered album liner notes, was the first rock song to use a digitalvocoder, with Alan Parsons speaking lyrics through it.

Arista Records then signed The Alan Parsons Project for further albums. Through the late 1970s and early 1980s, the group's popularity continued to grow (although they were always more popular in North America and Continental Europe than in their home country, never achieving a UK Top 40 single or Top 20 album). The singles "I Wouldn't Want to Be Like You", "Games People Play", "Damned If I Do", "Time" (Woolfson's first lead vocal), "Eye in the Sky" and "Don't Answer Me" had a notable impact on the Billboard Hot 100. After those successes, however, the group began to fade from view. There were fewer hit singles, and declining album sales. 1987's Gaudi was the Project's last release, though they planned to record an

by Parsons (and featured the regular Project backing musicians, making it an 'unofficial' Project album), it was primarily Woolfson's idea to turn it into a musical. This eventually led to a rift between the two artists. While Parsons pursued his own solo career and took many members of the Project on the road for the first time in a successful worldwide tour, Woolfson went on to produce musical plays influenced by the Project's music. Freudiana, Gaudi and Gambler were three musicals that included some Project songs like "Eye in the Sky", "Time", "Inside Looking Out", and "Limelight". The live music from Gambler was only distributed at the performance site in Mönchengladbach, Germany.

In 1981, Parsons, Woolfson and their record label Arista, were stalled in contract renegotiations when on 5 March the two submitted an all-instrumental atonal album tentatively titled 'The Sicilian Defence' (the name of an aggressive opening move in chess), arguably to get out of their recording contract. Arista's refusal to release the album had two known effects: the negotiations led to a renewed contract and the album was never released.

Morris injury compounds Dragons' defeat

Laurie Daley, winger Brett Morris left the field early on with a suspected knee injury.

Morris made an unsuccessful dive for a try in the left corner and stayed down after being tackled by Manly counterpart David Williams.

He ended up hobbling off the park and up the tunnel with a trainer's help, and the Dragons camp revealed little about the nature of the injury.

Daley was relieved earlier on Monday when workhorse Blues skipper Paul Gallen was cleared of serious knee damage resulting from Cronulla's golden-point win over Newcastle on Sunday.

But his good day got even worse after Morris's injury gave way to the absence of star Manly and New South Wales full-back Brett Stewart, who did not emerge from the sheds after half-time nursing a hip complaint.

The Sea Eagles came into the game having lost their last five at Jubilee Oval, the last time coming in 1997 when St George and Illawarra were still separate clubs.

That time the visitors triumphed 18-14 and on Monday night that was the scoreline for much of the second half as the Dragons cut down a 14-point half-time deficit and had much of the momentum.

Secular Turks see red over airline's lipstick ban

Turkey's national airline has b a r r e d f e m a l e f l i g h t attendants from wearing red lipstick and nail polish, striking a nerve among secular Turks worried the country is becoming more Islamic.

Turkish Airlines, Europe's fourth-biggest carrier, said the ban was aimed at keeping crews "artless and well-groomed with makeup in pastel tones", as a n a t u r a l l o o k i m p r o v e d communication with passengers.

"As a consequence of our current cabin uniforms not including red, dark pink, et cetera, the use of lipstick and nail polish in these colours by our cabin crew impairs visual integrity," the statement said.

Turkish Airlines declined a request for further comment.

The guideline follows other res t r i c t ions on employees ' appearance and on serving alcohol. Critics say they reflect the influence of the government's conservative religious values at the fast-growing state-run airline, one of Turkey's most recognized brands.

"This new guideline is totally down to Turkish Airlines management's desire to shape the company to fit its own political and ideological stance," AtilayAycin, president of the airline's Hava-Is labor union said.

"No one can deny that Turkey has become a more conservative, religious country."

Wind farms to lure back German lobsters decimated by WW2

New wind farms off Germany's North Sea coast will provide an ideal habitat that could help r e s t o r e t h e l o b s t e r population near Heligoland after British bombing during and after World War I I d r o v e t h e m away.

Biologists at the Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar a n d M a r i n e R e s e a r c h a r e b reed ing 3 ,000 l o b s t e r s t o b e released next year i n t o t h e B o r k u m R i f f g a t offshore wind farm near the island 70 km off the German-Dutch coast.

The 1.5 square km island had a thriving fishing industry before it became a Nazi fortress in the war, pounded by Allied bombs, and then later used for target practice. It is now a tourist resort.

Billions of euros of investment in wind turbines as part of Germany's ambitious transition to renewable energy has given the scheme impetus. L o b s t e r s , w h o s e l o c a l

population is 90 percent smaller than it was 70 years ago, need a firm seabed to thrive.

"The new wind parks mean lobsters may settle in a new habitat, because the stony foundations offer a favorable environment," project leader Heinz-Dieter Franke said.

" W i t h Germany's shift to renewables, we could have 5,000 wind farms by 2030, so if it works, this kind of project could

have a huge effect on the lobster population," Franke said.

He estimated that wind farms could help increase the lobster population to as many as 300,000 lobsters in the area around Heligoland in the long run from 50,000 to 100,000 now.

The return of workhorse Tim Mannah from a suspected broken leg was not enough to inspire the Eels past the Cowboys on a chilly night in Sydney's west.

Retired racehorse finds calling as abstract painterThe horse is an American icon. It races gracefully, performs heavy farm tasks, can do t r icks and, i f television is to be believed, may even talk. But only one is an accomplished painter.

Metro Meteor, a 10-year-old thoroughbred bay in rural Maryland, is enjoying singular success. Within just months of applying his first brush stroke to paper, he is juggling requests for public appearances, weighing endorsement offers and earning thousands of dollars for his work.

Slowed by bad knees, the racehorse was retired in 2009 and adopted b y R o n a n d We n d y Krajewski. Unable to ride the crippled horse, Ron, a local artist, decided to teach the horse to paint in order to spend more time with him.

E lephan t s a re known to paint with their trunks, he reasoned, and Metro did tend to bob his head a lot while in his stall.

T h e p a i n t i n g s caught on, and success ensued. Metro is now the best-selling artist at Gallery 30, a s m a l l s h o p i n G e t t y s b u r g , Pennsylvania, which started selling his work four months ago.

Metro's paintings feature colourful, sweeping brushstrokes, complete with specks of sawdust not surprising as the horse paints by swinging his head, a paintbrush clenched in his teeth.

"For his large paintings, there is a waiting list of 120," said Ron Krajewski in an interview this week.

The larger acrylics, 20 inches by 20 inches (51 x 51 cms), sell for $850 at the gallery, he said, and smaller cut-down versions, 5 inches by 7 inches (12.7 x 17.8 cms), are $80.

One o f Met ro 's la rge paintings sold on eBay for more than $2,000, and bidding for another one on Friday was hovering at $800 with

only a few hours to go.In total, about 40 large and

150 small works have sold, adding up to more than $20,000, Krajewski said.

As the owners say on Metro's website: "Art scholars are not going to have long lengthy discussions trying to decipher the hidden meaning to Metro's paintings. He is a horse.

"It is what it is. A painting you can hang on your wall and tell all your friends it was painted by a horse," they said.

Typically, horse and owner paint for an hour or two, maybe four times a week, Ron Krajewski said, adding that Metro never seems to get bored with the task.

Metro lives at Motter's Station Stables, near Rocky Ridge, a small town in the rolling hills of northern Maryland. An indoor arena doubles as his studio.

One morning this week, the horse demonstrated his technique interpreted by Wendy Krajewski to a visitor.

"He'll roll ... he likes to roll," she said, and within minutes, the horse knelt, lay on his side and began to roll on his back.

Then he got to his feet, walked over to his easel and array of paints and wrapped his muzzle around a paintbrush. Friendly and laid-back, he scarcely fit the s te reo type o f a h igh-s t rung thoroughbred.

A former turf sprinter, considered among the fastest at

Saratoga and Belmont Park, Metro won about $300,000 during his racing career, his owners said.

When his knees deteriorated, forcing him off the track, the Krajewskis, who owned a percentage of the horse, adopted Metro with plans to use him for casual trail riding. They also own a quarterhorse and another adopted thoroughbred.

The horse was able to take short trail rides, but eventually his weak knees left him unable to support the weight of a rider, they said.

The Krajewskis donate half of Metro's earnings to New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program, a charity that seeks homes and

rehabilitation for retired racehorses. The owner of Gallery 30 donates a portion of Metro's profits to a local animal shelter.

"We use the rest to pay for his medical bills," Ron Krajewski sa id . "The spec ia l treatment for his knees is very expensive."

Metro suffers from arthritis, cartilitis or frozen joints, and rapid bone growth, among other health issues.

A t f i r s t , h i s prognosis was bleak and if he continued to deteriorate, he could die within two or three years, his owners said.

But recent X-rays showed t h a t a n e x p e r i m e n t a l b o n e remodelling treatment had improved one knee, they said, and treatment on another knee will begin this month.

Metro's popularity has gone national. He has appeared on network te lev is ion and has rece ived endorsement offers, his owners said.

The volume of business offers prompted the Krajewskis to retain an intellectual property attorney.

Their horse, they noted, is oblivious to earnings and acclaim. As long as he has fresh water and hay, some treats and a pasture where he can nibble grass, run and roll in the dirt, Metro is happy, they said.

Raiders ruin Storm's perfect startCanberra pulled off the boilover of the season so far by putting the first blemish on Melbourne's premiership defence with a 24-20 win at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

The Raiders have now won three in a row on Storm turf and squared their season ledger at 4-4 whilst handing the 2012 premiers their first defeat since July 27 last year.

Melbourne had won 16 straight coming into the clash but that record was immediately under threat as Blake Ferguson scored for the Raiders just 10 minutes in.

Spanish rider Dani Pedrosa gained his first win of the season on Sunday, taking the Spanish MotoGP.

The 27-year-old Honda rider came home clear of his team-mate Marc Marquez while defending world champion Jorge Lorenzo was third on a Yamaha.

Marquez, who went top of the standings on 61 points - three ahead of Pedrosa and four of Lorenzo - once again showed his class at just 20-years-old as he passed Lorenzo on the final bend for second spot.

However, it left Lorenzo furious as they came together on the bend and he refused to accept Marquez's apology immediately afterwards.

Lorenzo maintained a diplomatic facade once he dismounted from his bike.

"I prefer not to comment on that. I would rather talk about my race," said Lorenzo, who turned 26 on Saturday.

"It was a perfect race for my bike and the team. I am pretty sore about what happened but I prefer not to make any further comment."

Marquez, who a fortnight ago became the youngest ever

winner of a MotoGp, accepted that he had been in the wrong.

"I wanted to say sorry to Jorge but it wasn't possible," said Marquez, who has had a history in the other categories of upsetting his rivals with risky manoeuvres.

"Sure if I had been him I would be angry but I entered the last lap and I knew that I could pass him and so I went for it," he added.

Pedrosa, who has yet to add the MotoGP title to his 125cc and 250cc world crowns, was delighted to have broken his duck for the season.

"It was a good race and I am delighted to have got a win under my belt," said Pedrosa, who has finished title runner-up on three occasions.

"Jorge was very strong but once I got past him I let myself establish a decent lead and then eased off as I didn't want to destroy my tyres."

Lorenzo produced an excellent manoeuvre after losing first place on the first corner, coming on the inside to pass Pedrosa on the first lap.

Rossi too was in sparkling form on the first lap overtaking Marquez, but the young rider displayed the class he showed in the previous race by reclaiming third spot on the second lap.

B o t h L o r e n z o a n d Pedrosa opened up a bit of a gap on the pursuing pack led by Marquez and Rossi while behind the race saw four riders exit with 24 laps still remaining.

The highest profile casualty was Honda rider Stefan Bradl, who went too wide on a bend and

the gravel which leaves the highly-rated German with just one finish in the three races this season.

Up ahead Pedrosa took the lead with a neat pass of Lorenzo with 22 laps to go while Marquez put some space between himself and Rossi, who was being chased down by British rider Cal Crutchlow.

Marquez upped the pressure on Lorenzo by hanging on to t he f ou r - t ime wo r l d champion's wheel attempting to pass him on several occasions with the older rider having to draw on all his experience to stave him off.

Oblivious to this, Pedrosa established a lead of over two seconds on them and seemed to be well set for a comfortable victory.

However, even though Lorenzo was being hounded all the way through the race by Marquez, it did not stop him from eating into Pedrosa's lead.

Alarm bells started ringing for Pedrosa as his lead was slashed by a second with two laps remaining, but it was enough in the end as the real drama unfolded between his two compatriots which could have ramifications further down the line.

The next race is the French MotoGP at Le Mans in a fortnight.
