OUR PROGRAMS: CONSERVATION-COMMUNITY-EDUCATION Our 2017-18 Conservation year saw the completion of our Protect the Edge campaign, which added 76 acres to our prior holdings. During this fiscal year, our 149.76 acres of local lands were under the watchful eye of Stewardship Coordinator Shane Sjogren, who leads his team of Trust volunteers in weekly work groups onto assigned properties for maintenance and stewardship projects. (New volunteers for this work are always welcome! Call 503-368-3203.) The Community Garden at Alder Creek Farm (ACF) continues to reflect the Trust’s commit- ment to the citizens of North Tillamook County. In 2017-18, 34 ACF gardeners and a like num- ber of volunteers put in hours of work planting, cultivating and harvesting an estimated 882 pounds of produce for the community, benefitting the North Coast Food Pantry and the Nehalem Senior Meals Program. In 2017-18, the Trust fulfilled its commitment to Education by providing an outdoor classroom for almost 300 students who spent class time at ACF. Some were there for lessons and demon- strations in conservation and environment. Others came for school-sponsored days of com- munity service, or for the Forest-to-Sea Science Camp programs. And the kids weren’t the only ones exploring the Farm. Our wonderfully diverse environment attracts birders and hikers of all ages. During the last year, we have continued to offer educational hikes and nature experiences through local programmatic partnerships and the Explore Nature Tillamook Coast program. Our mission is to preserve land and nurture conservation values in partnership with an engaged community in the Nehalem region of the Oregon Coast. 2017-2018 FINANCIAL REPORT 2017-18 BOARD OF DIRECTORS Allan Olson, President Roxann Balmer, Secretary Jim Pendergrass, Treasurer Nancy Chase Doug Firstbrook David Sip Carl Vandervoort Mary Ruhl Kate Morrison, Executive Director Since our founding in 2002, our work at the Trust has always focused on weaving our land acquisi- tions together with the community that surrounds those lands. Our 2017-18 Conservation year saw the completion of our Protect the Edge campaign, which added 76 acres to our prior holdings. During this fiscal year, our 149.76 acres of local lands were under the watchful eye of Stewardship Coordinator Shane Sjogren, who leads his team of Trust volunteers in weekly work groups onto assigned properties for maintenance and stewardship projects. Since our founding in 2002, our work at the Trust has always focused on weaving our land acquisi-tions together with the community that surrounds those lands. During 2017-18, we embarked on the development of a master plan for Alder Creek Farm and surrounding natural

area, seeking a way to assure that the Farm can become a tangible touchstone for a community committed to conservation in the Nehalem region.

In 2017-18, the Trust named local science educa-tor Peter Walczak as the winner of our annual Ferdun Conservation Award. Peter has the gift to open the eyes and hearts of children to the natural world in a way that helps them under-stand their role in it. A walk in the woods or along the shore with Peter is always a magical experience. We’re proud that he uses Alder Creek Farm as one of his many outdoor class-rooms.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that the Trust has just received a significant gift of 111 acres on the south slope of Neahkahnie Mountain! It will be known as the Headwaters property. Our thanks to the community for helping find new ways to bring us all together with the land on which we live.
