Your Guide to Bridal Professionals in Los Angeles
Congratulations to all the new brides-to-be! What an exciting and busy time you have ahead ofyou. So many decisions to make – what type of wedding to have, what venue to choose, who to invite-the list is long. We at LA Bridal have helped by providing a guide to local vendors to help make thosedecisions easier. Looking for a great wedding cake? Check out the talented bakers we have throughout the Los Angeles area! Looking for an event facility that holds 400 guests? Check out our quick guide to venues.
Brides-To-Be everywhere are looking for what’s “hot” for today’s wedding. According to the 2013Wedding Report, food trucks are still immensely popular for wedding receptions (and for the after party!) Slider or ice cream trucks keep guests happy as they dance the night away long after dinner has been served! Check out our center spread – Meal’s Gone Mobile – for some great tips on how to choose the “right” truck for your event.
Searching for another way to meet vendors and find some great ideas for your wedding? LA Bridal will be handing out our Spring/Summer bridal guide at 30 bridal fairs this season--come out so we can meet you in person, and perhaps help you with a little “insider” guidance! We are also honored to partner with Brides Against Breast Cancer Nationwide Tour of Gowns to bring you several unique and different Bridal Fairs….with a purpose! Join us at TIATO in Santa Monica, Eco-friendly home of the celebrity-favorite An Catering & Crustacean restaurant, on February 22 & 23. Drink champagne, sample hor d’ouevres, meet with local vendors, and find the wedding dress of your dreams---all while supporting a great cause! On March 29 & 30, join us for a return visit to the Marriott Anaheim, and party with the best SoCal wedding professionals around! Check out our website – URLocalBride.com/LAbridal – for tickets and additional information.
Keep your copy of LA Bridal handy. Use it throughout your wedding planning to help make all yourdecisions easier. Visit our website often for tips and contests—we have lots of exciting prizes &give-aways like limos for your special day, cases of wine, photo sessions, and free save-the-date cards! Portrait backs Giving a demure and romantic touch to the brides, portrait backs with delicate embroideries, lace frames and peekaboo keyholes are important elements in 2013 wedding gown trends without a doubt. Add a little bit of mystery to your look with some delicate bits of sheer, stretch illusion. We love illusion that’s layered in beading, scrolled, winding embroideries and flyaway feathers, giving a modest(yet sexy) look. Also on the scene for the more daring brides are naked, open, and cut-out backs. Time to tone those back muscles, ladies!
Color Colored wedding dresses are still all the rage for spring 2013, though designers have taken a more subtle approach to color, incorporating blush pink, olive green, and baby blue into many of their collections. Or you can give your dress the golden touch with Spring’s most-loved metallic hue. Los Angeles-based couture bridal designer, Claire Pettibone, adds gold embroidery on fine ivory tulle and gold eyelash scalloped vintage lace to her coveted collection.
Lace Isn’t likely to fade from the scene for quite some time. As Bridal Fashion Director Rachel Leonard states, “There is something about lace that pushes back on the technology-driven society we live in. It’s soft. It’s romantic. It takes us away.” “I have a number of brides asking lately for lace ball-gowns with sleeves or jackets,” says Southern California couture designer, Kirstie Kelly of Kirstie Kelly Couture. Featuring lace as a layer on top of other fabrics lends volume and dimension to the gowns, but still keeps it light and airy.
Tulle Is giving lace a run for its money this season. Simple light tulle layers will flow over gowns and appear as capes this wedding season. Designers are using this transparent fabric for see-through, dramatic necklines, ruffles, flowers, and sleeves of all lengths. We love tulle for its sheer beauty, its delicacy and for its mystery-as it covers and uncovers all at once.
Peplums Fresh from the couture runways, waist-defining peplums are popping up in all the top collections-giving wedding gowns a dose of high style with both structured and softly draped shapes. "Peplums were huge," Leonard says. "It's fascinating how that really picked up this season. It's a high-fashion look that's sexy and graphic." And experts say you can find the right proportion, be it oversize and asymmetrical, sleek and simple, or cropped and airy. For Spring 2013, designer Amsale Aberra led the run-way charge toward fashion-conscious shapes, showing multiple peplums in both structured and delicately draped gowns. While most of the styles were still rather full, many hugged the hips for a sophisticated and elegant effect.

Hungry couples looking for an innovative twist on wedding grub needn’t look further than their own busy street corner.
The growing popularity of food trucks have hooked a nation, spawning a reality TV series on Food Network and a still-booming Twit-ter craze. And now, they’re taking the wedding world by storm, with food-truck catering quickly becoming a fun way of doing something different.
“The great thing about a food truck is that people will be talking about it for years beyond the wedding date,” says Jackie Valent Lucca, who runs the Fast Foodie truck and has catered several weddings in the past year.
Couples considering a food truck should first make sure it fits the style of their wedding. The atypical nature of food truck catering – guests will essentially be eating street food out of the side of a parked van – means less of a folded-napkins-and-silverware environment, and
something more laid back.
Since food trucks usually target a unique food audience, owners suggest sticking to safer fare for a bigger guest list. We recom-mend large parties go with our Gourmet Bar, say the folks at VizziTruck, an LA-based truck that specializes in innovative & unique sliders (think Lobster Tail and Waygu Beef) from cutting-edge chef David Fune. “This allows guests to select an array of different items from a buffet of our specialties---and folks can come back to the buffet for second portions of their favorites!”
Some smaller parties with more daring taste-testers will likely enjoy the thrill of the interesting niche foods trucks can offer. LA’s famous Asian-fusion Komodo Food Truck
is known for its delicious tacos filled with different global cuisines. Komodo—named for the Komodo Dragon, which needs to taste its’ surroundings, says that some of their most popular wedding menu tacos are Loko Modo—Hawaiian style ground sirloin with island sweet sauce & eggs, and the Blazin’ Shrimp—spicy Singaporean style shrimp with sour cream salad & cilantro.
For couples going the traditional dinner route who still want the fun of an on-site food truck, try using it for other elements of the wedding. Food trucks can be used for the appetizer portion, the late-night catering as guests leave the party, or in-between the ceremony and reception to feed hungry guests.
Aside from adding a unique flair to a wedding, food-truck catering is a great way to keep a food budget in check. According to the Bridal Association of America, the average catering bill for a wedding with 150 guests is $12,247. That’s about $82 per person. The Fast Foodie truck, as an example, typically charges $25 per person, depending on the menu. Komodo charges a mini-mum of $1000 to come out for 2-3 hours, and, for only $20 per person, your guests can eat their way through a nice variety of their “dangerously good food”.
Just remember that not all food trucks are created equal. Size and equipment can limit what can and cannot be done. If you are thinking of embracing this popular trend, ask various truck owners how flexible they are with what they will make. While some trucks will only service what is on their menu, others, like Fast Foodie, will make whatever the couple wants (within reason).
Many companies that run food trucks can do more traditional catering as well. Komodo, for instance, opened a sleek new place on W. Pico Blvd two years ago (so fans can always find the Dragon when they crave him!) Try them out today, and brace yourself for a unique flavor adven-ture….and remember….nothing says casual chic more than a food truck at a wedding.

To keep costs in check, as with planning your wedding, decide your honeymoon must-haves (keeping in mind that everything cannot be a must-have) and plan your trip around those details. You both want to spend time lying on a beach watching palm trees sway? Terrific. Realize that you don’t have to go to Hawaii to have that.
Your honeymoon will be one of the most memorable vacations of your life, so don’t leave any part of the planning to chance,” says Michael Flory, vice president of Classic Vacations, San Jose, Calif. Here are his five honeymoon pitfalls to avoid:
1. More than money. Price should not be your top criterion when planning your vacation. Think instead about how you want to feel and what you want to do.
2. By the book. Don’t wait until the last minute to book the trip in hopes of getting a better deal. Doing so can lead to disappointment, as the best properties and the most exclusive activities have limited space and sell out early.
3. Remember the crowds. If you’re planning a summer honeymoon, keep in mind that you may be traveling during peak season for family vacations. If you want peace and seclusion, try a less family oriented hotel or destination, or honeymoon during the off-season.
4. Plan plans ahead. Booking at least a couple of things before you leave means you’ll guarantee your place in popular activities and spend more time enjoying your vacation once you’re there, rather than continuing to plan it.
5. Ask and receive. The choices for destinations, properties and tours are countless for honeymooners. Don’t spend all your planning time looking at brochures. Talk to friends and colleagues for recommendations, and contact a travel professional for assistance in making the right decisions.

guarantee the perfect shots.
o How would you run the day?o Do you do more than one event in a day?o Do you have a backup photographer?o How long after the wedding do I get my proofs?o Do I receive the rights to the images?o Do you have liability insurance?
o How many years of experience do you have?o Have you shot at this event facility before?o What are your package prices, and what do they include?o Do you include engagement photos in your package? o Could you define your style?

Questions to ask when choosing a venue:• What’s the décor like?• Does it fit your style, colors and budget?• Will you have to spend a lot of money to make it beautiful?• Is there a space for the bride & groom to change?• Do they have an in-house caterer and do you like the food?• Can you bring in your own caterer?• Are there overtime charges?• Is there a wedding coordinator on-site?• Is there a back-up plan if the location is outdoors?• Are candles allowed?• Do they have a liquor license?

It’s a Sweet Life!By Charyn Pfeuffer
What happens when a Hollywood publicity executive swaps agency life for a world filled with butter, milk, sugar and cream? Good Karmal, a confection company, is born.
Co-founder Patty Triplett West didn’t stop with simply creating addictively delicious caramel candies. From the very first batch, West set out to inspire their customers to, as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change we wish to see in the world,” and donates a portion of sales to environmental charities.
West’s hand-made all natural flavored and salted caramels come wrapped in feel-good words of wisdom. Melt-in-your-mouth flavors include Vanilla, Sea Salt, Chocolate Sea Salt, Caramel Apple, Café Caramel and Chipotle. Even Oprah featured these sweet treats on her annual “Oprah’s Favorite Things” episode.
We love Good Karmal for bridal showers and wedding fa-vors. Couples can create a one-of-a-kind fortunes and custom-ize with whatever names, dates, and images they wish. Our favorite wedding favor pick? Good Karmal’s Personalized Caramel Favor, which comes with two caramels tucked inside an earth-friendly textured cardstock package and finished with a full-color band featuring the details of your special day.

Tips to Writing Your Own Vows• Remember you are telling a story.• Make sure to have a beginning, middle an end.• Start at least a month before the wedding.• Use traditional vows as a starting point for your own.• Incorporate favorite songs, poems or love letters.• Why is he/she special, when you realized you were in love, what your life dreams together will be?• Make sure they are not too long, no longer than two minutes.• Practice reading in out loud and remember to speak loudly and clearly you might want a microphone.• Run the final version by your officiant.

Marriage LicensesBY LINDSAY GOWER
It’s the must-have accessory for every bride: A Marriage License! So let’s review the basics you need to know about getting licensed to wed.
Getting the LicenseBoth bride and groom must go, in person together, to a County Clerk’s office. In California, you can go to the Clerk’s Office in any county; it does not need to be the county in which you are having the wedding. Neither of you needs to be a California resident to apply for a California marriage license. No blood test or medical exam is required and there is no waiting period: You apply, pay, and receive the license then and there.
You both must:• Be at least 18 years old. If you’re younger, you need consent of parent or guardian.• Bring a government- issued valid picture ID (such as a driver’s license) that includes your full legal
name and date of birth.• If you have been married before, bring Proof of Dissolution. You cannot apply for a marriage
license if you are married, even if your divorce is almost final.
What to Do With the LicenseYou receive an unsigned license. Here’s what makes it an official wedding certificate:
• Get married within 90 days of the date the license is issued!• Before the wedding, give the license to the person who’ll officiate at the ceremony. The officiant is
required to review the license before conducting the ceremony. It’s a good idea to bring it to the rehearsal for go over it with the officiant, and of course bring it to the wedding.
• After the ceremony, the officiant will complete and sign the license, and have it signed by bride, groom, and at least one witness.
• The officiant will return the license to the County Clerk’s office within 10 days of the ceremony, so it can be officially recorded. Once recorded, you can buy a copy of your wedding certificate (depending on the county, you don’t receive one automatically).
IN LOS ANGELES, YOU CAN APPLY FOR A MARRIAGE LICENSE ONLINE. IT’S EASY AND SAVES TIME!Once you complete the online application you can come to the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk head-quarters in Norwalk or go to any one of our branch offices to pick up your marriage license, pay the license fee, and arrange for a civil marriage ceremony, if desired. Call or visit any of the branches listed below for further details.
