To: All Lacey Elk Members Lodge #2518
September 25,2019
In the first two weeks of May 2019 a ceiling leak was discovered in the beer room. This room is directly below our second-floor lounge. An
investigation as to the cause of the leak was made by our House Committee Chairman and Bar Manager. A contractor was retained to de-
termine where the leak originated from and we anticipated a quick repair. However, the contractor discovered significant bar floor damage
due to long term, unnoticed water leaks. There has also been water damage to the beer room ceiling. A proposal was submitted to the
members on April 25,2019 for $7,000 to inspect and repair the damage. Once approved the contractor expanded his scope of investigation
for repairs and determined the leak and floor damage was far more then expected. The leaks have continued and ceiling leaks in the beer
room continue to expand. There has also been damage to the ceiling in the adjacent meeting /banquet room which is next to the beer
room. An odor of mildew has become apparent in this room which is an indication of water damage spreading from long term water leaks.
Several contractors were contacted to submit proposals which include a total bar replacement, new flooring throughout the lounge, electri-
cal and plumbing work, possible structural involvement, and replacement of existing tables and chairs in the lounge and bar equipment.
Ceiling repairs in the beer room would be done in addition to inspecting the current fire suppression system water pipes which are in the
water leak area.
An insurance claim has been submitted to our carrier and to date the lodge has received an initial payment of $15,000. It is our hope that
the insurance carrier will cover the majority of the claim. In the event the insurance claim does not fully cover the work done, an applica-
tion has been made with PNC Bank for a $500,000 equity line of credit to cover necessary costs.
At the last member meeting held on September 11,2019 a formal presentation was made to the members by the House Committee Chair-
man of the work needing to be done. A question and answer period followed. A formal motion was made and passed by the members to go
forward with the necessary emergency repairs, additional furniture and the $500,000 equity line of credit. The members approved a budget
of $150,000 to cover cost of repairs and any unanticipated damage.
A final vote on the project will be held at our next member meeting on October 10 ,2019 at 7:30 PM.
To Diana Czerepuszko, Rosemary &
Jeff Hein and the DOC crew for your
help in preparing the pavilion before
and after the Army or Hope. Thank
you for all you do for our Lodge.

The 2019-2020 Scholarship season has begun. The Elk’s are second only to the Federal government in the amount of money they give away each year. Although scholarships can seem confusing at times, I hope to demystify the process and help our members’ children and grandchildren as well as the Lacey High School students apply for all the scholar-ships that are available to them. The first round of deadlines is for the Elk’s National Foundation “Most Valuable Student Scholarship” (all seniors in H.S. are eligible) (Deadline November 5, 2019). Our lodge can send three boys and three girls to the District for consideration in the ENF Most Valuable Student competi-tion. The State and the ENF begin awarding money at this level. The ENF “Legacy Awards” ($4000) (any child, grandchild, step-child, step-grandchild or legal ward of an Elk is eligible) deadline is Febru-ary 1, 2020. The applications for both scholarships are online, just go to www.elks.org/enf/scholars.
