A Requiem Prayerful remembrance of the dead has been an integral aspect of the Judeo-Christian faith and tradition since the second century BCE. We Chris-tians have always remembered the names of the dead; their names are heard in prayers of intercession during the liturgy and especially in the chanting of the litany of the saints at the Easter Vigil, the celebration of the resurrection.

We remember them by name because God has called them by name to share the fullnes of God's joy. So, in the quiet of our hearts, we speak the names of those who have gone before us and we whisper to each of them: "Hear our God's invitation, come to him with open hearts, and enter forever into the fullnes of joy." Especially in the month of November we remember our sister and brothers who have left this world in God's friend-ship. We will celebrate the memory of our faithful departed with the Celebration of the Eucharist on Friday evening, November 2nd at 7:00pm. Also in our Masses during the month of November we will remember the deceased mem-bers and loved ones of our faith community.

CATEQUÉSIS COMUNITARIA Y FAMILIAR — COMMUNITY AND FAMILY CATECHESIS

Power in weakness Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of October 28, 2018 Listen to the Word (Mark 10:46 — 52) What words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? Look into your life Question for children: What would you like to ask Jesus for? Question for youth: “Master, I want to see!” What do you most want to be able to “see” in your own life? How are you blind? Question for adults: What does it mean for you to “see”? Are there blind spots in your life? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: In today’s Gospel, blind Bartimaeus is healed. Take a walk outside with your family. What do you see? For what do you want to thank God? Think about your family. Decide how the Lord has brought strength out of a weakness in your family. Does someone in your family need special help? How has this helped to bring out the best in your family? Review with your family the Corporal Works of Mercy. Have them select one or two of these to carry out this week: Feed the hungry, Give drink to the thirsty, Clothe the naked, Visit the imprisoned, Shelter the homeless, Visit the sick, Bury the dead. What would you say if Jesus asked you, “What do you want me to do for you?”

Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 28, 2018

In today’s Gospel, St. Mark retells the story of Jesus’ heal-ing of the blind man Bartimaeus. After his healing, he chooses to be Christ’s disciple by following Him on the way to Jerusalem — to the Lord’s passion and death. The prophet Isaiah also describes the journey to deliverance through the Lord. The Letter to the Hebrews describes God’s call among men to the priesthood. In our quest for discipleship, do we have the faith and courage to answer God’s call to our own life’s vocation?
