The salubrity of the air surrounding the lake has long been known to the people who
practice this type of tourism, which each year brings together a growing and growing
number of fans.
The most famous Italian lakes are certainly the subalpine ones (Garda, Como, Maggiore,
Iseo), although in recent periods central Italy lakes are becoming increasingly popular
thanks to a milder climate which allows longer bathing periods.
Of course, lake tourism is not just about opportunities for bathing and purity of the air, but
it is also connected with water sports like sailing, windsurf or canoeing. The practice of
these sports has been added in recent years to new sports activities, such as trekking on
the banks of the lake and cyclo tourism, both by road bikes and mountain bikes.

Lombardy is one of the regions of Italy blessed with scenic and varied landscapes. It is a
place where the new and more industrialized establishments meet the old medieval hill
towns and countryside scenery. Aside from its diverse setting, Lombardy boasts of breathtak-
ing and sparkling lakes surrounding the region. This makes Lombardy an ideal retreat for
those who want to relax and unwind alone or with friends and family members. Although
frequented by many tourists, Lombardy’s lakes still retain its raw, untarnished beauty.
The most famous lake in Lombardy would be Lake Como which is simply breathtaking. You
can also go to Lake Maggoire or Lake Orta which are equally stunning. You can enjoy the
lakes’ picturesque beauty more by renting a lakeside villa so you can enjoy their view 24/7.
Also, do not miss out on the lakes’ bounties such as fresh fish prepared with risotto and
other Italian delicacies such as alpine butter and cream and excellent wines. Aside from the
intimate atmosphere and privacy afforded by the villas, you can also take advantage of the
lakeside resorts’ amenities and try out some water or sports activities. So while you are in
Italy, do not forget to visit Lombardy’s Lakes and experience the holiday of a lifetime.

With Cernobbio and Bellaggio, it is in Griante Cadenabbia, one of the queens of the lake and
a prestigious International tourist destination with its exellent hotels and the more familiar and
exclusive residences scattered throughout the area, that beautiful geometric plantings forming
elegant gardens and inspiring hymns to contemplation can be found. Cadenabbia lies on the
shore oppsite Bellaggio. Visited in the past by famous personalities such as Giuseppe Verdi and
Konrad Adenauer, the German Chancellor, who regularly holidayed here at Villa La Collina, in
the far off 19th century, Griante also charmed the American writer, Henry Longfellow. Today,
tourists from all over the world, Australians, Americans, north europeans, Russian, Swiss and
Canadians, and even some from the Arab emirates, animate its lakeside and climb up to the
Sanctuary of San Martino perched high above.

Umbria is a region full of histrory, culture and religious backgrounds. The mail lake of the
region is Lake Trasimeno, located in a central position to the art cities of central Italy, between
Florence and Rome, close to places rich in history and culture as Siena, Arezzo, Perugia,
Assisi, Orvieto and Gubbio. The area of the lake is composed of eight municipalities, some
of which are perched on the hills (Citt‡ della Pieve, Paciano, Panicale and Piegaro) and oth-
ers (Castiglione del Lago, Magione, Passignano sul Trasimeno Tuoro sul Trasimeno) directly
facing the lake shores.
Trasimeno LaKe gets its name from an etruscan origin. Legend tells that Prince Trasimeno,
son of the etruscan king Tyrrhenian, met the nymph Agilla in these lands. They fell in a love
that ended tragically with the death of the prince. Since then, the lake was named Trasimeno.
And when the wind caresses the lake’s waters you can still hear the melancholy lament of
the nymph Agilla crying in search of her beloved prince.
