Dear Dr. Sabin,

•Thank you very much for your letter of 18th December

which duly arrived at the end of December.Pleace accept my apologies for not having renlied

sooner, but I knew that I should soon have to write to youto give you some news concerning our Institute.

Following our discussions in the Sila mountains,youwould certainly have realised that Professor Falchetti's positionin our Comnany was becoming uncertain and, in fact, now anagreement has been reached that Professor Falchetti will leavethe Institute at the end of the present month.

~ Dr. Pi~ Egisto Valensin, with whom you are alreadyacquainted, will continue his work in our Virology Department,with the collaboration of the same technical personnel workingthere at nresent. Prof.Dr. Augusto Giovanardi will give thedepartment his close and continued attention as consultant.

At this noint I wish ,to assure you that we will bemost hanpy to have Dr. Julio De Much~ . s-as our guest duringthe coming months of March and April, but I thought it my dutyto inform you in advance of the departure of Prof. Falchetti .

Perhans you would be kind enough to advise me whetheryou consider that I may still invite Dr. Julio De Mucha Macias.

As I am sure you will understand, we are all mostunhappy at this painful decision, but I do think that duringthese last years, Prof. Falchetti has not succeeded in workinghappily and willingly, and he himself is also fully aware ofthis fact.

The management of the biological products divisionwill be temnorarily taken over by Prof.Dr. Giuseppe Mazzettj,a student of Prof. Sclavo, a lecturer in Hygiene and Microbiologyand was the Director of the Istituto d'Igiene of FlorenceUniversity.
