The Lancashire Youth JazzOrchestra was formed in1976 and features studentsfrom all over the county.They have previously wonthe Northwest Region of theDaiaily Telegraph Young JazzCompetition and the seniorcategory of the NationalFestiva l Music For Youth atthe Queen Elizabeths Hall inLondon. The Jazz Orchestrahas performed with manynational and internationalational and internationallyknown musicians such asKenny Baker, Georgie Fame,Digby FairweatherAlan Barnes and Ian Kirkhamof Simply Red. The bandplays popular big band musicfrom the greats such as DukeEllington, Count Basie all theway through to present daystars Michael Buble, GordonGoodwin and even RobbieWilliams and Phil Collins.

Lancaster Jazz Festival iscommitted to encouragingyoung people to becomeactively involved in music. Anumber of schools inLancaster have been invitedto tao take part in a programmeof jazz and improvisationworkshops culminating inthis performance at thefestival itself.

London based Olivias Owlshave been steadily producinga beautiful brand ofinstrumental music since2011 with their debut albumset to be released on theprestigious F-IRE label thisyear. Guitarist Jon Moore has enjoyed a bizarrely disparate (and onlyoccasionally desperate!) musical life. Writing and playing folkmusic (Jumpleads and Tiger Moth) reggae (Edward II) gypsy jazz(Hotcha) and recently funky bluesy hip-hop (Carpe) has takenhim around the world.Recently Jon decided to write some original tunes suitable forthe open explorations of jazzhe open explorations of jazz. Lancaster Jazz Festival will seethe first public debut of this material and the co-incident launchof a CD. Expect strong melodies, a variety of styles, local heroesto help him out, and general good humour.
