thousand Eight hundred and thirty six between John B. Pendergast of the county of

Madison and state of Tennessee of the one part and David E. Putney of the county of

Fayette and state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth that the said J. B. Pendergast

hath for and in consideration of the sum of nine hundred and seventy Dollars to him in

hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained and sold and by

these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said David E. Putney his heirs and

assigns a certain tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the tenth Surveyor’s

District range five section one on the waters of Wolf River the same being a part of the

tract of five thousand acres granted to Robert Harris by grant No. 18597 and dated on

the sixth day of January in the year 1823 Western district of Tennessee and bounded as

follows containing three hundred acres Beginning at a stake Wm. C. Harris’ south west

corner it being on the eastern boundary line of Charles and Edwin Harris’ six hundred

acre tract Running thence south three hundred poles to a black oak the south east

corner of said Charles and Edwin Harris’ 640 acre tract Running thence East with

Malone’s northern boundary line to a stake 160 poles thence north 300 poles to a stake

Wm. C. Harris’ south east corner thence west with sd Harris’ southern boundary to the

beginning Together with the appurtenances and hereditaments appertaining thereunto

or belonging to the same the right and title all of which I do hereby warrant and defend

against the claim of any other person whatsoever my heirs and assigns forever.
