RDA is an award-winning Landscape Architecture & Site Planning fi rm located in St. James, Long Island, New York. RSLA is our mid-Atlantic branch offi ce located in Chesa-peake, Virginia. Our mission is to creatively connect and integrate our natural and man-made environments through imaginative planning and sustainable design to enhance and improve the quality of life in our communities.
We strive to develop long-term partnerships with all of our Clients and we often collaborate with Architects, Engineers and other design professionals to provide comprehensive site development services. Public projects include site and landscape design for school and university campuses, offi ce parks, retail centers, parks and golf courses. Private projects include site and landscape design for fi ne homes and estates.
Master planning services include conceptual and initial design for residential and golf course communities, regional retail centers, corporate offi ce parks and apartment and condominium complexes. Site planning services include pedestrian and vehicular circula-tion design, grading and contouring, storm drainage design, sports facility and athletic fi eld design and playground design. Landscape design services include native and xeriscape planting design, hardscape design including plazas, patios, decks, swimming pools and sports courts, planting buffers and garden design.
“imagine . create . solutions”
As design professionals, we are entrusted with developing places that make up the fabric of our communities. These places will most likely outlive us and therefore must be timeless and relevant in nature. Thus, one of our greatest challenges is to design spaces that are in context with their surroundings. Context is the framework of a design and how it relates to its surroundings, his-tory and most importantly, it’s users......and our imagination and inspiration is what discovers and makes the most of this context. This is refl ected in our maxim of “imagine.create.solutions”
By training and experience, Landscape Architects have strong problem-solving skills and RDA is proud to be known as a “go to” fi rm to help solve difi fcult physical and logistical project issues. We closely collaborate with land developers, builders, Architects and Engineers to develop compre-hensive and well-planned communities and site plans. We concentrate on a big-picture approach to design and then subsequently hone in on the details.
We bring a sensitivity for low-impact site development by working with and preserving as many natural characteristics of a site as possible including trees and plants, landforms, drainage and access patterns, microclimates and views. This helps convey a sense of permanence to make a new project appear as if it has existed for years.
We concentrate on the spatial defi nition, composition and fi rst-and-last impressions of a site to create a higher-quality sense of place and try to anticipate how people will perceive and use a site so we can better plan for and help contribute to the success of a design. This philosophy applies to any sized project, whether it be a 300-acre park or a 1/3-acre residential home.
