PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

END OF YEAR EVENTS There have been many special activities happening across the school over the past weeks. Swimming sports have generated much excitement, as have the music presentations. It has been wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents attending these events and the students have been delighted to have the support of family and friends. SCHOOL GROUNDS DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS Just a friendly reminder that dogs are not permitted on school grounds (even on a leash). There are many reasons for this including: A dog’s behaviour can be unpredictable People have allergies to dog hair People have fears of dogs Doggy ‘droppings’

The only dogs that are allowed on school grounds are police dogs, assistance animals

(guide dog, reading dog, etc) or a corrective services dog. We thank you for your assistance in this matter.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL’S REPORT SCHOOL REPORTS: SENTRAL PARENT PORTAL Next Friday afternoon (14th December), a copy of your child’s Semester 2 report will be available through the Sentral Parent Portal. The purpose of the school report is to provide a thorough overview of your child’s academic and social/emotional progress. Your child’s teacher has spent considerable during the semester conducting a range of assessment to identify their achievement levels in all key learning areas. Please take the time to have a conversation with your child about their report. On the Friday afternoon, your child will bring home a self-assessment of their learning, that can support this conversation. If you require assistance to set up a Sentral Parent Portal account please contact me at school on 9775 7533. CURRICULUM DAY On Monday 3rd December we had a whole school curriculum day. The focus of this professional learning day for teachers was working in teams on 2019 whole school priorities. Teachers also worked with a consultant that focused on oral literacy. Our curriculum days this year have been an important element for all teachers to receive quality professional learning, that can be transferred back into their classroom. Richard Barren

YEAR ONE—MINI BEASTS

On Thursday 6th December Year One students celebrated their mini beast unit by having a Mini Beast Carnival. The students

came dressed up as their favourite mini beast and they took part in a range of activities throughout the day, finishing with watching A

Bugs Life. The activities included; looking at the symmetry of a butterfly, a mini beast quiz, creating a paper plate bee, mindfulness

with spider powers yoga and collaborative play through a mini beast Olympics. Great fun was had by all!

LIBRARY

library.langwarrinparkps.vic.gov.au BOOK CLUB Our final Issue 8 orders have been processed and will be distributed next week. Thank you for supporting this valuable program which promotes reading and earns valuable school resources. AVOID THE SUMMER READING SLIDE! Even though borrowing has finished for the year, we encourage students to explore other ways of sourcing books such as: swapping a book with a friend, reading magazines, adding books to their Christmas Wish List, visiting their local library and logging onto Reading Eggs. Practising regular reading will also benefit students when the Premiers Reading Challenge starts again in Term 2. The Frankston Library has a summer reading club operating too! LIBRARY LEADERS Our 2018 Library Leaders have completed their leadership responsibilities with enthusiasm. They have cared for our Library and assisted with many events and activities throughout the year. I would like to wish each of them success in their future as they embark on high school. MERRY CHRISTMAS We have enjoyed a productive year in the Library. I thank our entire school community for your active involvement in our Book Clubs, Book Fairs, Dress Up Parade, and regular borrowing. A warm thanks to families that have donated books to our School and to our volunteers who assist and care for our Library covering, repairing and returning books with such care and commitment. We look forward to continued success in 2019 supporting student literacy and wish you all a safe and relaxing break. Kate Mowat Library Manager

VISUAL ARTS

FOUNDATION DRAWING

Foundation students drew these beautiful dog pictures as a whole

class directed drawing activity. This activity linked to their

Responsible Pet Ownership unit. They then used permanent marker

and watercolours to decorate.

YEAR 2 CREATIONS

Year 2 students used wool and fairy floss sticks to create a Gods Eye during Art. Great effort!

ZENTANGLES IN YEAR 3

Year 3 created fabulous hot chocolate cups. The focus of the project was

to use line and pattern to create zentangles!
