PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

NAPLAN TESTING We are so proud of our Year 3 and 5 students who participated in this years NAPLAN testing last week. They all worked hard and tried their best. Thank you to our teachers who prepared and supported them through this process. OPEN NIGHT—CELEBRATING CAREERS What a spectacle! Our wonderful staff and students had our school alive with colour, demonstrations and interactive work stations for our OPEN NIGHT on Wednesday evening. As part of Education Week we celebrated CAREERS and some of the skills our students are learning that will lead them along their individual pathways. Thank you to the family and friends who came along to join us. The students and teachers were proud to open the doors and show you all some of the wonderful things we are learning here at LPPS. Lots of great photos to share further in the newsletter. TOURS AND ENROLMENTS We have started the process of school tours for our 2020 enrolments. If you have a child entering Foundation next year please join us on one of the scheduled dates or phone the school if these are not suitable. We have a special evening tour scheduled for this Monday 27 May at 6pm. STUDENT ARRIVAL TIME TO SCHOOL At Langwarrin Park Primary, we place the utmost importance on student safety. Each morning staff are on duty in different areas of the playground at 8.45 am. The majority of our students arrive between 8.30am and 8.45am. It is great that they are punctual and organised, so they have the best start each day for their learning. We do have an increasing number of students being dropped off well before 8.30am. We understand that parents may need to do this to fulfil their work commitments. Could we please urge you to arrange your mornings, so your child/ren arrive at school after 8.30am. If this is not possible, our school is fortunate enough to be able to offer a high quality Before and After School Care program to cater for families that have to get their children to school before 8.30am (Refer to below for Camp Australia contact details). On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings we also have a Breakfast Club that operates from 8.15am, which provides a safe and supervised environment. We thank you for your support with this matter. Our THRIVE value for this term is RELATE WELL. We are looking for students who are showing respect, getting to know

others and including peers in and out of the classroom. These students are then rewarded with a raffle ticket and awards are presented at assembly each fortnight. Last Assembly we congratulated the following students: Arlo D. (Prep 1), Harlea A. (3/24), Ava W. (3/23), Jordyn S. (4/27), Matthew M. (5/12), Belle H. (6/6).

BREAKFAST CLUB

Breakfast Club is going well. We operate from 8.15am to 8.45am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are supplied with cereal

and fruit. Presently we are offering baked beans on a Monday morning also. Generally we have about 30 smiling faces each morning

and it is run by Deb Haddow, Luana Lane and some of our integration aides who volunteer their time. If you would like to volunteer

one of the mornings each week speak with Deb Haddow.

THANK YOU TO COLES Langwarrin! They have agreed to sponsor our Breakfast Club, donating 10 loaves of bread weekly along with a voucher to purchase spreads and spare snacks for recess. We are so grateful for this support from our community.

A letterbox will be placed in the front foyer so if you need to tell Ms Haddow or Mrs Lane about

something you can write them a letter and they will get back to you

GROUNDS and MAINTENANCE WORKING BEE SUCCESS A group of tired but happy helpers eating a well earned donut and a cup of hot coffee. A big thank you to all of the helpers who attended our recent ‘Spruce Up Our School’ working bee. The windows and paths look a treat. A big thank you to Martin Byrne and his team for cleaning the big windows around the library / hall area. They look fantastic. The details of the company are located in our advertising section...give them a go! If you missed out on this working bee don’t worry there will be a few more in 2019. Just watch out for the notice. What a fun day we had not to mention the wonderful collection of gold coins that will go towards reaching our playground improvement goals.

Alpacas with Maracas have invaded our classrooms and corridors! As part of Education Week LPPS read this book and used it as a platform for a variety of creative activities. In doing so we contributed to this years 1 million plus readers. Participating in the NSS is just another way we aim to promote the value of reading and literacy

whilst exploring the value and fun of books.

LOTE INDO AWARDS Our LOTE leaders held their first Indonesian raffle last week. Students who found the Year 6’s dressed in traditional clothing were able to enter the raffle by approaching the Year 6’s and speaking to them in our target language, Indonesian. The prizes all focus on traditional culture such as wayang kulit style bookmarks, congklak keyrings and batik doll pencils. Semangat! FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE EXCURSION / INCURSION FORMS Excursion forms need to be returned to the teacher by the due date and payment made to the Finance Office via QKR/BPay/eftpos or classroom teacher. It is imperative that we have forms returned so that student numbers can be confirmed. For example, where extra teachers are needed for swimming etc. WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK On 1 August 2017 legislation changed which requires everyone in direct contact with students to obtain a Working with Children Check. For full details please visit the website by following the link from our school website finance page. If you are assisting with swimming, excursions or within the school you must have a valid WWCC. If you have organised your WWCC please check the expiry dates to ensure it is current and notify the Finance Office of new dates.
