Laniado was founded on principles laid down by its esteemed founder, the Klausenberger Rebbe, z’l. It is more than a hospital. In fact, it is a ‘Merkaz Refui’ – a Centre of Healing.

Laniado aims to provide each patient with all of their physical and emotional needs. The hospital strives to create an atmosphere where those in need are treated with dignity and compassion. Whether Jewish, Chrisitan or Muslim, Laniado treats each patient equally. No-one is turned away based on their religion, race, faith or ability to pay. This ethos is the life-blood of Laniado and permeates every aspect of its operation.

DIGNITY

Laniado’s reputation has been built on an uncompromising commitment to maintaining human dignity and relieving suffering. Patients travel from across Israel to receive the unique care that Lanaido provides. This commitment is the legacy of its founder, the Klausenberger Rebbe; it is the events that led to its creation that make Laniado so unique.

OUR STORY

From Rabbi Yehuda Yekutiel Halberstam emerges the heart and soul of Laniado. Decades after the founder’s passing, his spirit and compassion continue to infuse the hospital with a love of humanity, while penetrating the hearts of those who seek its services.

While the doors of the hospital opened in 1975, its inception was conceived decades earlier. The Rebbe, already considered a leader in world Jewry before the Shoah, had witnessed the death of his wife and eleven children at the hands of the Nazis. An unimaginable ordeal from which few would have the courage to recover. Yet, rather than being crushed by the extent of his personal tragedy, he provided courage and belief to those who had shared similar suffering. He became a wellspring of faith and a pillar of hope to religious and irreligious alike, in their darkest hours.

During the death march in June 1944, when faced with what might have been his final moment, he made a promise:

“ If I survive the war, I will build a hospital…”Why? Because hospitals are predicated on the value of human life. Where sanctity of the soul is treasured, where life is celebrated and suffering eased.

Laniado Hospital is a full-scale medical campus. It serves close to 450,000 people in the Sharon region with the highest level of medical care. It also comprises a Nursing School, two Geriatric-Care Centres and a ground-breaking medical research department. Over 8000 babies are born in Laniado each year. Each serves as a testament to the sanctity of life, and to the spirit of man.

Leaving a gift to Laniado will allow us to continue to offer comfort and compassion to those in need.

The Rebbe’s personal journey of faith and courage has led so many to consider Laniado’s cause their own.

Saving life and improving quality of life is the hallmark of any medical institution. Laniado excels at both, reducing suffering and taking all measures to alleviate pain.

Fast action is critical. Whether in the operating theatre or the emergency room, we take no shortcuts when it comes to saving life.

Netanya has seen more than its fair share of emergencies. Since the outbreak of the second intifada in September 2000, the bustling coastal town was the target of fourteen terror attacks, most notably the Passover massacre at the Park Hotel on 27th March 2002 which left 30 dead and 140 injured.

In total, 65 lives were lost and over 700 left injured.

Sadly, emergency services have become accustomed to responding to such frequent attacks. Laniado and its emergency teams were on hand for every tragedy and helped save countless lives.

Netanya has long had a connection with the British. After all, it offers what the UK rarely can - sun, sea and sand.

New immigrants have found Netanya to be an attractive destination, particularly for retirement. A manageable town rather than a sprawling metropolis, Netanya is small enough to feel part of a close-knit community and large enough to keep anyone entertained. Local expats have always taken Laniado to their hearts.

The hospital serves tourists and also provides day care for outpatients. Many of its visitors are British tourists. Laniado UK counts homeowners in Netanya among its greatest supporters.

Whether to make aliyah or simply holidaying in Israel, Netanya has always been a popular destinationOutside Laniado’s emergency room

Supporting Laniado in your Will is supporting a hospital that treats your nearest and dearest.

Remembering Laniado in your Will enables us to continue to be there when we’re most needed.

HOW IT WORKS

A legacy to Laniado is a promise of a bright future, a promise that we can continue with our invaluable work and maintain the legacy of the Klausenberger Rebbe.

Laniado receives no government funding for special projects, equipment or research. We rely on our supporters to continue our critical work.

The Laniado story continues in the merit of those who recognise its unique place in modern Israel - a beacon of hope built from the ashes of the Holocaust.

It’s never comfortable to discuss what will happen once we’re gone. Those who do formulate an endowment allow their values to remain as their legacy.

A Will is a really important document that will ensure your savings and possessions go to the people and causes you care about. Once you’ve made your Will, you can relax and get on with life – knowing that your wishes will be carried out.

Research shows that most people want to leave a gift in their Will. Yet many of them never do.

With all the ‘will’ in the world – without changing your Will, there is no way to ensure your legacy.

Changes in the law mean that money left to Laniado will save you more than you think.

INHERITANCE TAX

Did you know that leaving an endowment to Laniado could actually result in a greater distribution to your loved ones? It sounds strange, but it actually works.

To keep things simple, it works like this:

To encourage charitable gifts, HM Government introduced a reduced 36% rate of inheritance tax (from the standard 40%) for individuals who leave at least 10% of their net estate to a qualifying charity.

As a result, if your Will already includes an endowment to charities of less than 10%, by increasing to 10% by including, for example, Laniado Hospital, your loved ones may actually yield a greater inheritance.

FOR EXAMPLE

Estate value £1 million £1 million

Net estate after £325,000* £675,000 £675,000 tax free allowance

Tax free charitable legacy £45,000 £67,500

Taxable estate £630,000 £607,500

Inheritance tax due £252,000@40% £218,000@36%

Net inheritance £703,000 £713,000

*From April 2017, the new transferable main residence allowance allows you an additional £100,000 of tax exemption if passing property to a family member, rising to £175,000 by April 2020. The changes do not affect the advantages outlined above.

PUTTING YOUR PROMISE INTO WORDS

There are different kinds of gift you can leave in your Will. The most common are:

• Residuary Legacy – A gift of the remainder of the estate after all other bequests have been made.

• Pecuniary Legacy – A gift of a fixed sum of money in your Will. The value will decrease over time, as the cost of living increases.

• Codicil – A change or addition that you make to your Will.

You may wish to consult with your solicitor.

Alternatively, Laniado UK is offering free legal advice and have solicitors on hand who are able to advise.

“ I was not aware how much a person with a serious illness needs emotional support. The staff at Laniado are so intimate, they know what is happening with every patient at any given moment.... I don’t feel I have a disease, I feel I am a person who has a problem that is being taken care of. They make me feel like a member of their family. They do not treat you, they take care of you. Laniado is so comfortable. So un-hospitable like.

Susan, Netanya

In her early sixties, Susan was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer after discovering a lump. She was treated at Laniado over several years, receiving chemotherapy and undergoing several operations.

The staff didn’t just help my precious newborn, they were also so attentive to me. To have the positivity and strength to give my new baby all the love and nurturing that she so needed in those early days was just amazing.

Hadar and Mia, Poleg

Experiencing contractions after only 25 weeks of pregnancy, Hadar was rushed to Laniado and the prognosis was not good. Yet despite the complications that followed her birth, with great blessings, the baby slowly gained strength.

As she holds her healthy three year-old daughter Mia, Hadar sheds a tear as she recalls the uncertainty of those first days and weeks in hospital.
