Message from Lori BoschManaging Director - Lansing

After 14 years as Director of Development, I am honored to assume the new position of Managing Director

of Ele’s Place Lansing. Earlier this year, our Governing Board wisely decided to add this position, as Laurie Baumer assumed broader responsibility as President & CEO over our three branch locations.

In my first column for Ele’s Place Lansing, I am thrilled to report the creation of our new Teen

Zone, specifically designed to help teens feel more comfortable and welcomed at Ele’s Place. Our organization has always supported teenagers, but sometimes teens in our community say they think our programs are only for younger children, not them. We hope our Teen Zone will help change that perception. When teens walk through our Teen Zone during orientation, we want them to feel welcome. In fact, the teens who have already experienced the new space tell us it’s awesome! This new space is especially significant to me, because my older brother died when I was a teenager—I would have loved to have been able to come to the Teen Zone at Ele’s Place.

The photos you see on this page were taken at our recent Teen Zone ribbon cutting event to celebrate its completion. We are especially grateful to King Custom Homes who contributed extensive time to coordinate this project; to Celink who provided a major financial gift; and to many Celink employees who volunteered to finish and decorate the space. Other generous supporters donated labor and materials to help make the Teen Zone possible:

The holidays can be an especially difficult time for children coping with the death of a family member. Here are some tips to help:

• Light a candle to remember the person

• During family gatherings, talk about memories of the person who died

• Know that it’s okay to have fun

• Make an ornament or decoration for the person who died — or one that reminds you of that person.
