Lasallian Youth Gathering
What is LYG?
The Lasallian Youth Gathering is the premier event for Young Lasallians in the District of ANZPPNG, occurring once every 2-3 years. LYG embodies our Lasallian zeal and Young Lasallians’ characteristic zest for life, bringing our community together in large numbers not seen at any other District gathering. Through inspiring keynote speakers, relevant workshops, facilitation by the Young Lasallians team, service opportunities, an engaging experience of faith, and so much more, LYG17 will above all be fun!
The last LYG was held in Brisbane in 2014 and gathered over 200 Lasallians from around our District and across the globe. We fully expect LYG17 to be the largest, loudest, and liveliest Lasallian Youth Gathering yet! We can’t wait to welcome our Young Lasallians family to Sydney.

Program
Our Program is tailored to suit the needs of each participant, delivering relevant and engaging content for the three participant groups. There will be several plenary sessions that gather the entire Young Lasallian family together for inspiration, insight and fun.
Workshop Streams:
Workshops will be divided into three streams that will cater for all three Young Lasallian audiences:
Students Teachers Young Adults
Each participant will be able to choose from a wide variety of workshop electives. For the teachers we are working towards ensuring that these sessions count towards your required professional learning hours via accreditation from BBI The Australian Institute of Theological Education (formerly known as Broken Bay Institute).

Frequently Asked Questions?
Where will we be staying?
School Group Accommodation
School groups will be staying at the Sydney Central YHA for the week of LYG.
Accommodation will be provided from Monday afternoon to Friday morning.
Young Adult Accommodation
Young Adults are NOT to stay at the Sydney Central YHA, 11 Rawson Place, Sydney, NSW, 2000, during
LYG and are to arrange their own accommodation.
Lasallian Youth Gathering Faith, Service and Community:
While gathered together for LYG17, our Faith will be nourished and animated by the Young Lasallians team, a live band, liturgies and opportunities for reflection, the presence of Brothers and of other committed Lasallians, and more! We will also be celebrating Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral with one of our keynote speakers, Fr. Hoang Pham, who was formerly a De La Salle Brother.
As Lasallians, one of our core values is Service. LYG17 will include a hands-on experience of service in the Sydney community, as well as the opportunity to put that experience in context through shared reflection and input on our Lasallian tradition and values.
Our Community at LYG17 will include members from right across the District of Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Papua New Guinea. Additionally, we are expecting groups from the United States and beyond to join us. In light of this we have ensured that there will be a “Sydney experience” where participants will be able to experience this iconic city.
Do Sydneysiders have to stay?
School students from Sydney must stay with the group at the Sydney Central YHA for the week. Local Young Adults, however, do not need to stay in the city and can make their own way to and from the programmed sites.
How will we travel between the YHA and Program sites?
Everyone will travel to and from De La Salle Ashfield via train. The YHA and school are both located only a short walk from a train station.
What will I take away/get out of it?
We hope that from this week you will take away a strong sense of faith, a renewed zeal for the Lasallian charism, greater knowledge about topics that you are interested in, and many new friends from across our entire Lasallian District.
