(Spr. 15:23).

GAAN DOEN

DINK DAAROOR

Onthou: daar is lewe of dood in jou woorde. Woorde is nooit neutraal nie.

Get2Know. . .

God of die vyand?

2Cor 6:4-10 4 But in everything making it clear that we are the servants of God, in quiet strength, in troubles, in need, in sorrow, 5 In blows, in prisons, in attacks, in hard work, in watchings, in going without food; 6 In a clean heart, in knowledge, in long waiting, in being kind, in the Holy Spirit, in true love, 7 In the true word, in the power of God; with the arms of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, 8 By glory and by shame, by an evil name and a good name; as untrue, and still true; 9 Unnoted, but still kept fully in mind; as near to death, but still living; as undergoing punishment, but not put to death; 10 As full of sorrow, but ever glad; as poor, but giving wealth to others; as having nothing, but still having all things.

MORALISM PRODUCES IMMORALITYThe ironic thing about legalism is that it not only doesn’t make people work harder, it makes them give up. Moralism doesn’t produce morality; rather, it produces immorality. We make a big mistake when we conclude that the law is the answer to licentiousness. In fact, the law alone stirs up licentiousness. People get worse, not better, when you lay down the law.

To be sure, the Spirit does use the whole Word in our sanctification: the law as well as the gospel. But the law and the gospel do very different things. The law reveals sin but is powerless to remove sin. It points to righteousness but can’t produce it. It shows us what godliness is, but it cannot make us godly. As Martin Luther said, “Sin is not canceled by lawful living, for no person is able to live up to the Law. Nothing can take away sin except the grace of God.”

THE IRONIC THING ABOUT LEGALISM IS THAT IT NOT ONLY DOESN’T MAKE PEOPLE WORK HARDER, IT MAKES THEM GIVE UP.

LAW CRUSHES, GOSPEL CURESThe law is impotent–it has no strength, it has no power, it offers us nothing. Sinners already are powerless to obey the demands of the law, and the law offers them no assistance–absolutely none. Law apart from gospel can only crush. It can’t cure.

LAW WITHOUT GOSPELMAKES PEOPLE GIVE UP

Page 5: Lavie Uitgawe 25

The law could promise life to me,If my obedience perfect be;But grace does promise life uponMy Lord’s obedience alone. The law says, Do, and life you’ll win;But grace says, Live, for all is done; The former cannot ease my grief,The latter yields me full relief. (Ralph Erskine, 1745)

So, the law serves us by showing us how to love God and others. But we fail to do this every day. And when we fail, it is the gospel which brings comfort by reminding us that God’s infinite approval of us doesn’t depend on our keeping of the law but on Christ’s keeping of the law for us. And guess what? This makes me want to obey him more, not less!

As Spurgeon wrote, “When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” Indeed, it is “the kindness of the Lord that leads to repentance” (Romans 2:4).

GOSSIP IS EVERYWHEREHow do you know if you’re gossiping? The Apostle Paul warned young Timothy, a church leader, to curb the gossip that was happening from “house to house.” Unfortunately, we don’t spend the same amount of time in each other’s homes as the early church did, but that doesn’t mean we lack the means for gossip. Today, gossip lurks on Facebook, in emails, over phone calls, through text messages, and good old-fashioned face-to-face.

How does gossip manifest itself?

COMPLAINING ABOUT OTHERS TO OTHERSThe Complainer: The Gossip who complains about others to others. The complainer complains about others. This person is quick to find fault with others and slow to find fault with self. Someone is always getting on their nerves, hurting their feelings, or disappointing their expectations. How do we know? The Complainer is the gossip that complains and whines about others to others.

CHOOSING GOSSIP OVER GRACEWhy do we choose to gossip through complaint? This form of gossip exists because we see ourselves as undeserving victims. We believe the lie that we deserve to be treated a certain way. We distort our identity in Christ by replacing it with identity-as-victim. We see ourselves as the brunt of others’ sins, not sinners who should bear the brunt of God’s wrath. Distancing ourselves from Christ, we choose gossip over grace, complaining over forbearing.

Instead of giving and receiving complaints, could you give and receive grace? The complainer is adept at pointing out the sin problem, but will rarely offer a grace solution, especially if it means admitting he or she is wrong. The complainer believes the lie that they deserve something they didn’t get. They believe they are more important than others. If we got what we deserved, it would be judgment, but Jesus gives what we don’t deserve—grace.

WHO IS JESUS TO THE COMPLAINER?Jesus is the only person in all of history who lived a perfect life and is the only person to ever have the right to complain. He is the truly innocent one, and yet, he was scorned, mocked, and frequently gossiped about.

Jesus didn’t even complain to others about those who betrayed him: “Can you believe that Peter would betray me, John, after all I’ve done for him?” Jesus’ willingness to die for complainers shows us how to respond in grace.

ONLY ONE UNDESERVING VICTIMComplainers need to understand that Jesus alone is the undeserving victim. He died to free complainers from what they deserve to give them what they do not deserve. He bore our judgment to plead our innocence before a holy God.

You may need a few minutes to repent of your self-deserving victim identity, and turn to receive and extend grace to others out of your undeserved grace identity. We are neither the victim nor the hero, but Jesus is both to the Complainer. He is the willing victim of our sinful gossip and hero who rescues us from what we deserve. He bears our judgment and pleads our innocence. He offers us grace.

GIVE AND RECEIVE GRACE, NOT COMPLAINTSWill we offer grace to others or will we complain about others to others? Instead of giving and receiving complaints, could you give and receive grace? Jesus purchased grace for us and others. Turn from being the victim and turn to others in grace.

Woord & Apologetiek

Ek moet sê, kinders irriteer my so bietjie en moet eerder van my af wegbly.

God hou alles in stand.

Launch of global EXPOSED campaignThere is yet hope for the country and our continent when a room is filled by people attending an event to make a stand against corruption. The event was the launch of EXPOSED – the global Christian campaign aimed at exposing corruption, one of the major causes of poverty.

The relaxed evening in Cape Town started with a piercing indictment against the Church, from Dr Michael Cassidy, the founder of African Enterprise and honorary lifetime chair of the Lausanne Movement, who said: “Every church gets the country it deserves.” He continued, “If a country decays it is the failure of the Church to be salt. If the country is dark, it is the failure of the Church to be light.”

Reverend Moss Ntlha, head of The Evangelical Alliance of South Africa lamented: “Corruption is a betrayal of the dreams of the people. Corruption is an abuse of power, whether by a traffic officer on the side of the road or by an elected government official. Those with power should use their power in a safe way.”

He continued: “Jesus gave us an example, which the Church should use to illustrate to the world a safer way to use power. Jesus was the most powerful man ever to walk the earth. Yet he used his power to serve others.”

The speakers during the evening reminded us that the launch event and indeed the EXPOSED campaign is not a platform for the Church to point fingers at the world. Rather the aim is to create urgency about the corruption problem and to summon ordinary individuals to make a stand against practices which ultimately keep the poor enslaved in poverty.

Costs of corruptionJoel Edwards, the International Director of Micah Challenge and International Coordinator of EXPOSED, counted the costs of corruption. “It would cost $210 billion every year to achieve the objectives of the Millennium Development Goals to halve poverty by 2015. In contrast, corruption costs $1 trillion every year and it wipes off 25% of Africa’s GDP.”

Joyce Thong, Communications Director of Malaysian Care and coordinator of EXPOSED in Malaysia spoke as an ordinary citizen yearning for a change.

“If we clean up our house maybe our light as the Church will shine brighter. Sometimes [the fight against corruption] is so overwhelming that you wonder what one person can do,” she said.

Michelle Harding, a South African businesswoman and champion for ethics, was the managing director of a plastic pipe company in South Africa which was part of an illicit cartel that fixed prices and rigged tender bids for decades. After becoming a whistle-blower for the Competition Tribunal, she was fired from her position.

The Tribunal said in its ruling: “Enforcement against cartels requires more Hardings who are willing to take a moral stand and, as she put it in her testimony, ‘stop the cancer’.”

Making a costly choiceShe told her story to the audience: “I had to make a choice as I was climbing that corporate ladder. I worked extremely hard to get to that position. The more I found out about the meetings in dark rooms, where no minutes were taken, I made a decision that would make me lose everything that I worked so hard for.

“Was it worth it? Only my family and husband fully comprehend what I had to sacrifice and go through. But, yes it was worth it because I was obedient to God,” she concluded.

Graham Power, the chairman and founder of the Power Group of Companies, one of the largest privately owned construction companies in South Africa, and chairman and founder of the Global Day of Prayer and Unashamedly Ethical movements, also shared what it costs to make a stand.

“The most embarrassing moment in my life was when I stood in front of 500 people at a business function and told them, prompted by the Lord, that I am cleaning up and that I have an overseas bank account, which at that stage was illegal. Somehow a reporter picked up my confession and that week the news headlines read: ‘South African businessman rapes country of millions.’ My mother called me and asked what is going on. But, today I can stand here without any shame.”

The evening ended with an appeal from Amanda Jackson, Head of Campaigns at Micah Challenge.

She said: “There are 600 million evangelical Christians around the world and millions of professing Christians; it shouldn’t be difficult to get 1 million people to sign our Global Call for Integrity [a call for financial transparency and honesty, which will be presented to leaders of the most powerful economies across the world].”

Practical actionThere are practical things that any ordinary Christian can do:

• Light in my heart – Personal action: this is a personal commitment where individuals refuse to engage in corruptive activities themselves and engage in local advocacy against the corruption they see around them.

• Light in my community – Community action: This will most likely take the form of a vigil that will slot in with vigils around the globe from October 14-20 2013. Idividuals, churches and organisations are encouraged to organise public events where the issue of corruption will be highlighted.

• Light in my world – Global Action: Individuals are asked to sign the Global Call for Integrity and, using the online tools as well as more traditional methods, to encourage others to do so and gather signatures at work, through their churches, schools and o ther g roups and organisations to which they belong.

Trip-Around-The-WorldRevival breaks out atBolivia Gospel festival

By gatewaynews.co.za originally published in Charisma News

sea of white flags have blanketed the stands of the Rafael AMendoza Castellon stadium for three nights since March 8 — a sign of surrender to God for Christians and many who trekked as far as several hundred miles to attend the Festival of Hope in La Paz, Bolivia.

What took place on the fútbol field March 8-10 trumped the towering mountains and brownish-red cliffs that surrounded the venue. Each night, tens of thousands of people sat elbow-to-elbow to hear a gospel message from Franklin Graham at the Festival de Esperanza (Festival of Hope).

There was also entertainment, including colorful dancers, lively acts like clowns and chickens, and music by popular Latin American Christian artists including Alex Campos, who took the stage on Sunday.

What was perhaps most encouraging was the number of young people that either volunteered for the Festival or simply decided to tag along and sit in the stands with friends. And that’s the good news, considering the social issues Bolivian youth face. One translator said human trafficking of girls is an often unspoken issue. Then there’s easy access to alcohol and drugs.

“Young people today are coming under the influences of things that are very troubling,” Franklin Graham said. “There is a battle for the youth of this nation.”

But the battle is not lost. On all three nights of the Festival of Hope, many of those who came to Christ were under age 25. The most salvations were from young people ages 10-18.

Andrea, 14, was one of them. A friend who’s a Christian invited her to the last day of the Festival. “She said there are a lot of problems in her home. Her parents fight a lot and she doesn’t want her siblings to do what they do,” explained Paola, a Festival counselor.

As Franklin Graham preached from Mark 8:34-37 (…what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?) Andrea felt a nudge inside. “Are you sure your soul is secure?” Franklin Graham asked the crowd. Andrea wasn’t sure so she walked forward. Paola was waiting with open arms to pray for her and her family.

Valeria, 19, had a similar experience while sitting in the stands. She didn’t want to come to the Festival at first. “But when she heard the word of God, her heart was captivated,” Valeria’s counselor, 19-year-old Rebecca, said. Although happy about her decision, Valeria’s family members aren’t Christians, and she was sad that “they couldn’t feel the love she felt in her heart like she had never felt before.”

La Paz means “peace” in Spanish and by day three of the Festival, there was a sense of serenity among Festival leaders and volunteers. The long journey many attendees took parallel the work done behind the scenes to pull off the event. It took 18 months to prepare.

“We saw unity of the body of Christ that is impossible to create, humanly speaking,” Festival committee chair Johnny Dueri said. Now a year-and-a-half and nearly 5,000 salvations later, the effort has been more than worth it.

Before leaving the stage, Franklin Graham summed it up best:“If I don’t get to see you again, I’ll see you in Heaven.”

verskillende lande kon eet. Dit was werklik ‘n “out of this world experience.”

Everest Base Camp and Kalaphatar Freedom Climb, 2013 will trek to Everest Base Camp (17,598') and then summit Kalaphatar (18,192').

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” Proverbs 31: 8-9 NLT

The Freedom Climb began as a dream of something tangible that could be done to raise awareness and help give oppressed, enslaved women and children a voice. It took on a life of it its own as women from around the world heard about it. By January 11, 2012, there were 48 women from seven different countries who gathered in Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro -- the world's tallest free-standing mountain. These 48 women climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise global awareness, prayers, and funds for women and children who are oppressed, enslaved, exploited, and trafficked throughout the world. Their purpose was to be a voice for the voiceless; for those who could not declare freedom in their lives and climb out of their circumstances on their own. The goal for the climb is to affect the lives of 10,000 women through projects that break the cycles of poverty, shame, slavery, and despair.

Rose will be climbing to the Everest Base Camp in April, to bring global awareness for woman and children who are oppressed, enslaved and exploited. Please pray for her health and safety.

Visit www.thefreedomclimb.net

She thinks she may be going crazy... she doesn't love exercise and will need a lot of will power to do this. But, it is for a cause that she believes in. She is passionate about seeing the captives set free - the vulnerable, the oppressed, the HIV positive. Originally from the UK, she has lived in many countries is now in South Africa. She believes that we, as the body of Christ, need to do more to bring hope in the HIV and AIDS pandemic. She is director of AIDSLink international, which works in about 20 countries (Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe). Climbing to Everest Base Camp is where she commits her feet to proclaim freedom to the captives.

The Freedom Climb is a ministry of Operation Mobilization (OM). It supports OM projects focused on at-risk women and children, specifically with those who are exploited, enslaved, oppressed, and trafficked. OM works among the most marginalized and least reached people in the world and has 6,100 workers from 100 nations, serving in 118 countries.

Question: "What is a Christian missionary?"

Answer: A Christian missionary is commissioned by the Lord to make disciples, followers of Christ. Jesus commands all Christians to share the Gospel, the message of His death and resurrection that conquered the penalty and power of sin.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matthew 28:19-20).

W h o i s a C h r i s t i a n missionary? Many people picture a missionary as a middle-aged man who leaves his job in America to evangelize and plant churches in Africa. But that is a simplistic view. Today, African Christians reach out to Muslims in the Middle East. College students spend their summer teaching English in Asia. A family in America befriends and witnesses to international students. A truck driver responds to an international disaster, meeting both physical and spiritual needs. All these are missionaries.

Although missionaries cannot be stereotyped, they each have a call. God calls them to set aside personal ambitions in order to be witnesses of the Gospel. Like Isaia
