DECODE GLOBAL (2013) specializes in mobile games for social impact. It develops games for the North American and Indian markets. Its first game Get Water! was launched this spring and won the United Nations UNAOC competition. HEARING EXPRESS (2012) delivers affordable, high-quality hearing aids in developing countries. By using rapid-fitting hearing aids, mobile diagnostics, and an entrepreneurial distribution system, it is a sustainable and scalable way of addressing hearing loss on a global scale. Launched by the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management (MDIIM), the Social Economy Initiative (SEI) is an important vehicle through which McGill’s Desautels Faculty of Management integrates social entrepreneurship and social innovation into its teaching, research and outreach activities. To meet growing demand, the Social Enterprise track was introduced in 2011 with the support of the SEI. Social entrepreneurs strive to solve social problems using innovative, sustainable, scalable, and measurable approaches. Their soon-to-be patented bottle caps allow health care practitioners to accurately (and efficiently) identify pharmaceutical packaging by both sight and touch. STREETSUDS (2011) assists marginalized and formerly homeless individuals in Montreal by providing a laundry service that picks up, washes, dries, folds and delivers linens and towels to businesses and community organizations in the city.
