Introduction

Your 'Summit' Conference Phone uses digital technology to provideexcellent handsfree audio quality and simplicity of use.

It includes the following features.

Full Duplex OperationUnlike many speakerphones which allow only one party to talk at anyone time (simplex operation), the Summit allows all parties to talk andlisten at the same time (duplex operation).

Two Digital Signal ProcessorsThe Summit incorporates 2 digital signal processors which minimisesecho and feedback.

Volume ControlA control is provided to adjust the volume of the received speech.

Recall

A recall button is provided to activate network services such as callwaiting or may be used in conjunction with a PABX to transfer calls.

RedialAutomatically dial the last number you called.

MuteTurn off the microphone so that the person at the other end does not

hear you speak. Ideal for those private 'asides'.

Ringer SwitchAllows the adjustment of the ringer volume.

Extension Microphone (optional extra)For the larger conference room, provision is made for a secondmicrophone, which may be placed up to 15 feet from the conference

unit.

Product Features

Internal Microphone : Used fortalking into the conferencephone. For best results, it is

recommended that you speak infront of the microphone no fartherthan 8 to 10 feet away.

Speaker : For best results, donot cover with an object of anykind, (including your hand).

Telephone Dial Keys : Used todial outgoing calls. Use as youwould any push buttontelephone.

AC 9V socket : Used to connectthe AC adapter supplied with theunit.

Line Socket : Connects theconference unit to the telephonewall socket.

Extension Microphone Socket: Used to connect the optionalextension microphone.

Pulse / Tone Switch : Selectsthe form of dialling that theconference phone uses whenmaking outgoing calls. Also usedto select between timed breakrecall and earth recall signals.

Ringer Switch : Adjusts the

volume of the ringer betweenHigh, Low and Off.

Recall Key : Generates a recall signal, required by a PABX to put acall on hold, or when activating additional network services such ascall waiting.

! Mute Button: Disconnects the microphone for privateconversations.

! Mute Indicator Light : Indicates that the unit is in a Mute mode.! ON/OFF Button : Turns the conference phone ON or OFF.! Power Indicator Light : Lights when the unit is ON.

! Redial Key : Activates the last number redial facility.! Tone Key : When the unit is for Pulse dialling, allows temporary

dialling in the Tone mode.! UP and Down Volume Buttons : Raises or lowers the speaker

volume.

Installation

To Connect theConference Phone

Even thought the Summitconference phone has a built-indialler, we recommend that it beconnected in parallel with anordinary telephone. In this way,calls can be made during powerfail conditions.

1 Plug one end of the telephonecord provided, into the linesocket at the rear of the unit.Plug the other end into thetelephone wall socket.

2 Connect the power adapter

 jack plug, into the unit and theadapter into a switched mainswall outlet.

3 Switch ON the mains supply atthe wall outlet.

4 Press the ON/OFF button. If

you do not hear dial tone fromthe loudspeaker, please checkthe connections. If the problemstill persists, please read thetroubleshooting section at theend of this guide.

Choosing a Location

For best results, please note the

following :-

! Everyone who is speakingshould be no further than8 to 10 feet from theSummits in-builtmicrophone (or 3 to 9 feetfrom the optionalextension microphone).

! Ensure that the unit ispositioned such that thewires will not be the wayof normal activities.

! You may wish to choose alocation that is free frombackground noise.

! Your results may varydepending on theacoustics of the room andthe number of peoplespeaking.

Setting the Pulse / Toneswitch.Before you can dial a call on the

Summit conference phone, youmust select which form of diallingit will use.All domestic telephone lines inthe U.K. now accept Tonedialling. This is both fast andaccurate and should be selectedif possible.When connected as an extensionof an office telephone system(PABX), the setting of this switchwill be dependant on thetelephone system in question. Ifin doubt, please contact yoursystem supplier or following the

procedure below.1 Set the switch to the Toneposition2 Turn the unit ON (ON/OFFbutton) and listen for dial tone.3 Dial a known number(remember to include any lineaccess digit required by the

PABX usually 9).4 If the call is successful (ringingor engaged tone) the switch maybe left in the Tone position. If thecall is unsuccessful, terminatethe call by pressing the ON/OFFbutton. Set the switch to the

Using the Tone ButtonIf you have set the Tone / Pulseswitch to the Pulse position, youmay temporarily change to Tonedialling by pressing the Tonebutton. This may be requiredwhen accessing automatedtelephone services, which requireTone signals.

Setting the Ringer VolumeYour Summit conference phonewill ring for incoming calls. TheRinger Volume Switch may beused to adjust the volume of the

ringer between High, LOW orOFF. With the switch set to theOFF position, the unit will not ringfor incoming calls but can still beused to make outgoing calls, orto answer incoming calls ringingon a parallel extension phone

Operation

Making a Call Using theSummit ConferencePhone1 Press the ON/OFF button andlisten for dial tone.2 Dial the required number onthe keypad (when connected toan extension of a PABX,remember to include any lineaccess digit required).

3 When the other party answers,you may conduct a conversationusing the built-in microphone.4 When you have finished thecall, press the ON/OFF buttonagain.

Receive Volume

You may adjust the volume ofreceive speech, by pressing theUP and DOWN buttons. Whenyou have reached the maximumor minimum positions, the unitwill beep 3 times.As this beep may be quite loudover the telephone line, it is

recommended that you advisethe other party before adjustingthe volume.Note : With the volume in theminimum position, the incomingspeech will be very quiet. Thisposition may be useful if youwish

to include a non active party inyour call i.e. you would likeanother partly to listen in to a

conversation or discussion youare having, but not be able totake part in it.

MuteThe Summits microphone(s) maybe turned off, by pressing theMute button. This will still allowyou to hear the other party butthey will not be able to hear you.Press the Mute button again toreturn to normal conversation.Note : If you have installed theoptional extension microphone,this will also be muted.

To Answer an IncomingCallCalls may be answered on theSummit conference phone bypressing the ON / Off button, (theMute and Volume buttons willwork in the normal way).

The ON / OFF button should bepressed again when the call iscompleted.

Operation

Making a Call using aParallel TelephoneYou can also make a call on aparallel (extension) telephoneand then transfer the call to theSummit conference phone.The call should be dialled onyour telephone in the normalway.When you wish to transfer thecall, press the ON / OFF buttonon the conference unit and hangup the telephone by returning thehandset to its cradle.Caution : If you do not hang upthe telephone, you mayexperience a whistling noisecaused by feedback between the

2 products.

RedialTo call the last number youdialled on the conference unit,you can use the Redial function.Turn the unit ON by pressing theON / OFF button and press the

Redial Key.Note : The Redial function may notoperate under all possible conditions ofconnection to PABX equipment. SomePABX equipment may require a pausebetween the line access digit and thetelephone number. A pause is notavailable on this product.

RecallThe Summit conference phonegenerates a recall signal for use

when connected to an officePABX (transferring or placingcalls on hold etc.) or whenaccessing additional networkservices such as call waiting.With the Pulse / Tone switch setin the Pulse position, the unit willgenerate an Earth recall.With the switch set to the Toneposition, the unit will generate aTimed Break Recall (TBR) ofapproximately 100mS.

Ringer EquivalenceNumber (REN)

If you connect too many devicesto your telephone line, they maynot ring correctly. On eachproduct you have connected toyour telephone line, will beprinted a REN number. Addthese REN numbers togetherand ensure that they do not

exceed a total of 4.The REN of the Summitconference phone is 1.Note : Any unmarked BTinstrument may be assumed tohave a REN of 1.

Extension Microphone (Option)

Using the optionalExtension MicrophoneThe optional ExtensionMicrophone will increase thearea over which people takingpart in the conference may belocated. If there are peopleplaced further than 8 to 10 feetfrom the conference phone, thenthe Extension Microphone shouldbe used.It is recommended that theextension microphone ispositioned around 15 feet fromthe conference phone base unit.Locating the extensionmicrophone within 3 feet of the

base unit may result ininterference.It is installed by plugging the

connector plug into the socketprovided at the rear of the baseunit.The Extension unit includes itsown Mute button and Indicatorlight. When the indictor lightshows Green, the microphone isactive. When it shows Red, it is

muted.Pressing the Mute button oneither the base unit or theExtension Microphone unit, willcause both of the microphones tobe muted.

General Information

Care and MaintenanceThe following suggestions will help you care for this product.! Keep the unit dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids may

contain minerals that can corrode electronic parts.! Use and store the conference phone in normal temperatureenvironments. Extreme temperatures can shorten the life of electroniccomponents and can distort or melt plastic parts.! Treat the unit with care. Dropping it may result in damage to circuitboards or cabinet parts.! Occasionally wipe the conference phone with a damp cloth to cleanit. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong detergents.

Troubleshooting

If the actions suggested in this troubleshooting section do not resolve your

problems. Please call the telephone helpline (during office hours) on thefollowing UK number.

The Indicator Lights do not light! Make sure the unit is connected to the mains wall outlet and the

mains supply is switched ON.! Ensure the adapter plug is correctly located in the socket providedat the rear of the unit.

! Ensure the conference phone is switched ON by pressing the ON / OFF button.

There is no dial tone! Ensure the telephone line cord is correctly fitted into the telephone

wall outlet and into the line socket at the rear of the product.! Check the telephone line by replacing the Summit conferencephone with a known working phone.

! If connected to an extension of a PABX telephone system, ensurethat the PABX system will support analogue devices and that thesocket to which you have connected the conference unit is installedand configured to accept a simple analogue telephone (non keysystem phone). The conference unit may also be checked by

temporarily plugging it into the telephone socket used for the faxmachine (this will be of the same type as that required for theconference unit)

You can receive calls but are unable to dial out.! Ensure that the Pulse / Tone switch, at the rear of the unit, is set to

the correct position. If in doubt, consult your system or networkprovider.

The conference unit does not ring.! Check that the Ringer Volume switch is not in the OFF position.! Make sure the unit is correctly connected to the telephone wall

socket and the mains outlet.! If connected as an extension to a PABX, ensure that the PABX will

support simple telephone operation.

Breaks in speech occur.! The conference phone may take longer to adapt to some room

conditions than others. Continue the conversation whilst theconference unit adapts to the room conditions.

! The phone at the other end of the line may not be full duplex. Forthe best performance, ensure the phone at the other end of the lineis either full duplex or is a non handsfree handset telephone.

In the unlikely event that your conference phone develops a fault withinthe first month of purchase, it should be returned, with a copy of yourpurchase invoice, to your retailer who will exchange it for a new one.

If it becomes faulty within the guarantee period but after the first month, itshould be returned for repair to Lazerbuilt (at the address shown above),either directly or via your retailer.

After the guarantee period, return your product to Lazerbuilt, indicating theproblems you are experiencing. Include your name, address, telephonenumber and a postal order/cheque for £5.00 to cover the handling charge.Lazerbuilt will then send you an estimate for the repair.

Before returning your product for repair or exchangeIf you believe that your product is not functioning correctly, pleaseundertake the following course of action :-

1 Ensure you have read and understood the instructions and are operatingthe product as described in the instructions.

2. Read the TROUBLESHOOTING section of this user guide and followany advice given for the problem you are finding.
