DID YOU KNOW that Frackville Lodge No. 737, Free and Accepted Order of Masons was organized May 21, 1925 with a total of thirty-five mem- bers? Charter officers were: A. Hower Glick, worshipful master; Judge Roy P. Hicks, senior warden; Raymond H. Hock, junior warden; Robert G. Garrett, treasurer; and Roy J. Morgan, secretary. DID YOU KNOW that the tract of land purchased by Daaiel Frack in 1852 was once called Girard Place? DID YOU KNOW that the Mountain BUildingJ ~nd Broad Loan Association was organized on August 30, 188n The officers at this time were George Spencer" president; Henry Snyder, secretary; A. S. Seaman, treasurer; and Charles E. Breckons, attorney. The association received its charter on October 27, 1887. DID YOU KNOW that the first power company in town was thl! Electric Light Company? This was chartered on August 25,1890 and the directors were: D. P. Haupt, president; J. E. McKeon, secretary; Charles C. Wagner, treasurer: and, L. C. Anstock, superintendent. The company assumed the title of "The Frackville and Gilberton Light, Heat and Power Company." On July 14, 1891, the lots on the corner of Railroad avenue and Arch street were .purchased from Daniel Frack, Sr. and a one story frame building 45feet by 85feet was erected at a cost of $1,500. . DID YOU KNOW that the Reading Company passenger station of Frack street was taken over by the Frackville Knights of Columbus on December 12, 1937to be used as their headquarters? DID YOU KNOW that the Junior Councillors was an organization sponsored by the Frackville Women's Club? This was an organization of Frackville High School girls. DID YOU KNOW that the Horse Shoe Houses.were located at the far end of South Balliet Street? Each house had a horse shoe above the doorway. DID YOU KNOW that Dr. Donaghue of Mahanoy Plane built Donaghue's Row at 239 to 249 North Railroad avenue? DID YOU KNOW that the Hartman Building at 8 South Balliet street was . once Houghton's Hall? DID YOU KNOW that the Stephen Girard Railroad was built in 1830, connecting Pottsville with the Mahanoy Valley byway of Frackville, where the rails descended the mountain via the first Mahanoy Plane} The road was considered an en~eering master- piece, overcoming the steepness of Broad Mountain by means of several inclined planes. The road was aban- doned in 1838, but portions of the bed are still evident at spots along the southbound lanes of Route 61. DID YOU KNOW that Frackville had several newspapers?
