Their differences could consist of their cultural background, personality, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and the list goes on. There has not always been diversity in the America and especially Florida, but in today society it is important to embrace it and make positive use of it. Corporate leaders should value diversity and they need to model this attitude to their employees and suppliers. When people value diversity, they recognize and respect the fact that people are different and that these differences is generally a good thing. For example, when attempting to solve a problem, it is better to assemble a diverse team with many skills and many different ways of approaching the problem than it is to assemble a team that has all their strength concentrated in one area. This panel will examine the value of diversity and its positive impact on both Corporate America and Florida, solutions that drive diversity including the use of data to measure the impact of diversity programs. Panelists will include Directors of Federal Office of Women & Minority Inclusion, legal experts and community development leaders who have become pioneers in the area of diversity within areas of Florida that have a history of socio-economic segregation. LDBF Session 3: 2:00pm – 4:00pm CRA REFORM: REDUCING POVERTY IN FLORIDA MINORITY COMMUNITIES (Atlantic Ballroom V)

CRA Reform: Impacting Florida’s Low-Moderate Income Communities

The Community Reinvestment Act is over 30 years old and is in need of serious reform that will ensure the reduction of poverty and unemployment in Florida’s minority communities. Minorities account for over 73% of Florida poverty rate (Kaiser Foundation Study). The Pew Institute just released a study that showed the gap between African-Americans-Latino’s and Whites has widened significantly. The CRA was intended in spirit to ensure adequate capital and community reinvestment into the country’s minority and low-moderate income communities.

It is now evident that the CRA Act is in need of serious reform by the Federal Reserve Board, Department of Treasury, OCC and FDIC. This panel will discuss today’s CRA environment and necessary improvements to reverse the rising tide of poverty in Florida’s minority community. The panelist from the FDIC and Federal Reserve Board are current members of the Federal interagency committee that are currently reviewing reforms for CRA. This will allow for ideas, concerns and recommendations from the panel and audience to be carried back to Washington D.C.
