The Douglas P. Holloway Sports Diversity Leadership Conference (“the Conference”) is named in honor of Douglas P. Holloway, the first high-level senior banking official in the U.S. to come out publicly.

He became a tireless LGBT advocate, devoting much of his time to HIV/AIDS organizations at a time when the disease was first gaining public attention. In addition to devoting countless hours to the LGBT community, Holloway was also an initial contributor to the sports diversity movement by serving as an early advisor to Compete Magazine.

The ideals and values of our motto of “Uniting the World Though Sports” are the basis of Compete’s continued success for the past nine years - they are in large part thanks to Holloway’s insight and influence.

The Conference’s PurposeThe purpose of “the conference” is to create a community of leaders for the multitude of LGBT sports organizations, mentoring and training the next generation of up and coming sports leaders.

Many sports diversity organizations, while sharing evolving LGBT issues still have very specific missions within the LGBT sporting movement. This new Sports Diversity Leadership Conference helps bring together a community of leaders to share and build upon already robust and successful organizations.

Many people, from weekend warriors to professional athletes, are unsure how they can make a positive difference in the future of sports diversity. This new Leadership Conference will serve to foster these leaders of tomorrow: mentors, coaches, league organizers, board members and more.
