IntroductionThe Mid-State Teacher Center, in conjunction with GROW Educational Consultants, provided educators the opportunity to learn from experienced educational consultants, government records managers and historical societies, with a grant awarded by the New York State Archives entitled Local Government and Records Management Improvement Fund.

The major outcome of this grant program was the successful incorporation of local governments records into classroom instruction and assessment in preparation for the social studies and English language arts curriculum and testing.

How To Use This PowerPointThe following thematic units are the outcome of Learning With Local Government Records. Each unit is accompanied by five lesson plans with supporting documents so you can complete the lessons in your classroom.

Some documents are scanned images of original local government records and others are worksheets that were created in Microsoft Word by the grant participant.

The Table of Contents contains hyperlinks that will lead you to the thematic units according to grade level.

To access individual documents within individual lesson plans, click on the highlighted links.
