Leckhampton’s Laura is running the London Marathon!
There are many special people in Leckhampton, doing amazing things and it’s nice to be able to
big them up every now and then.
Laura got in touch to tell us that she will be running the London Marathon this April and is raising
money for her chosen charity Friends of Conservation. Here’s Laura’s personal message:
Hello! On 22nd April I am running a whopping 26 miles in the London Marathon. Madness you say?
Then please, please help lessen my pain by giving generously to my wonderful charity Friends of
Conservation. It will certainly help me to run all 26 miles knowing I have your support.
Did I mention it is 26 miles?!
Friends of Conservation works with local communities in Africa, Central & South America and
Asia to support sustainable ways of living in harmony with wildlife and the environment.
Thank you so much for any donations. Laura
To help Laura reach her fundraising target of £1500 for Friends of Conservation, you can donate
online at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/LauraMorris83 or get in touch with Laura by email at
If you have a special achievement that you would like to share with us then please get in touch
with Rosie at LeckhamptonOnline at [email protected]. We’d love to share your
story and big you up!

At Last! A NEW FORM OF HEATING FROM GERMANY
Simple to install, Powerful, and no more servicing - EVER!
In Germany and Austria it can get as low as -20, even -30ºC and a single snowfall can be as
much as 3ft or more overnight. To deal with this severe cold they need powerful heating able to
cope with sub zero temperatures and sudden climate change. They need excellent control and
above all - low running costs without the need for constant servicing and replacement parts.
The solution, incredibly... is electric! This incredible
heating could be the answer to help beat ever increasing
energy costs and amazingly, it is not gas or oil, or solid
fuel - but clean electric! All you need is standard supply
and NO special tariff like economy 7.
All over Europe more people are choosing to heat their
homes and offices with this very special form of electric
heating in preference to oil gas or E7. In our area, more and more of our customers are making
that same decision and when you see this incredible heating for yourself you could be next! The
heating looks just like conventional radiators, but STOP! it is very different! Put simply, that
clunky central heating boiler needing constant servicing and replacement parts isn’t the only
choice anymore!
Now you can heat your homes, offices, extensions or conservatories with these incredible
heaters providing individual control over every room without the need for a central control or
wasted boiler space. This incredible German heating simply plugs in! Job Done! You can do
just one room or the whole house! This heating, whilst quite NEW in the UK has been
mainstream for a very long time in Germany and Austria. Sunflow Ltd. offer a complete solution which can include disposing of your old central heating
system, even oil tanks! Discover for yourself this incredible German heating.

Have your say on Leckhampton Housing Plan
We mentioned in the last edition that the Joint Core Strategy would be put out for public consultation
from December 2011 – February 2012. The public consultation called ‘Developing the preferred
options’ will close on 12 February 2012, so you make sure you have your say before then.
What is the Joint Core Strategy and what does it mean for Leckhampton?
‘The Joint Core Strategy (JCS) is a partnership between Gloucester City Council, Cheltenham Borough
Council and Tewkesbury Borough Council, supported by Gloucestershire County Council.
The JCS was formed to produce a co-ordinated strategic development plan for the area, and will plan
how the area will develop during the period up to 2031.’
The public consultation ‘Developing the preferred options’ outlines the various proposed scenarios for
development throughout Cheltenham, Gloucester and Tewkesbury over the next two decades.
Leckhampton has been targeted as one of the potential allocated areas for housing development, with
a possible 1650 additional homes being built.
Jive-Easy freestyle dance Sat 18th February 8pm - midnight at the University of
Gloucestershire, Ballroom TC007, Park Campus, The Park, Cheltenham. GL50 2RH

We have a fantastic venue with huge sprung wooden dance floor, fab cheap(student rates) licensed bar and plenty of free parking.

Saturday 4 February 7.30pm Hardeep Singh Kohli The Nearly Naked Chef
Sundial Theatre, Cirencester College GL7 1XA 01285654228
Grab a seat and tuck in, as a guest of Hardeep Singh Kohli, star of BBC’s The One Show. This celebrated broadcaster, raconteur, writer and cook combines comedy with inventive cuisine in a wonderfully funny, laid back evening's entertainment.
Just think Ready Steady Cook but with great cooking (Hardeep was runner-up on the first series of Celebrity Masterchef) and funny anecdotes, all delivered by Glaswegian Hardeep in his own unique, articulate and charming way.
Having debuted at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where the show played to sell-out audiences, this is an extended, two-course version of The Nearly Naked Chef, combining more of Hardeep’s winning talents and recipes.

DAVE’S TOP TIPS
PVA adhesive
PVA or Polyvinyl Acetate is, in its simplest form, glue for sticking pieces of paper together. One step up the ladder, and a little stronger, it becomes an excellent wood glue for Diy enthusiasts and joiners alike. In its extreme form it becomes an extremely versatile, waterproof adhesive and sealer, which has an extraordinary number of uses in the building trade.
PVA can be added to a cement mortar mix to give the mix slightly better waterproofing qualities and advanced adhesion to the surface it is applied to. Painting a coat of PVA on the surface before the cement mortar is applied can even further increase this adhesion.
Timber can be sealed with PVA to give it a waterproof quality, although if the surface of the timber is to be subject to any wear or traffic, then PVA, as it is an emulsion, will eventually fail. PVA can also be used to allow ceramic tiles to stick to timber (bath panels etc). At least 3 coats of undiluted PVA are required and each coat must dry thoroughly before the next is applied.
Regards
Dave Stevens.
