Tips and tricks

Clean down the area before installation

LED Strip is provided with a market leading self adhesive backing. If using the self adhesive backing, ensure the surface is clean and smooth before applying. The adhesive is suitable for flat surfaces that aren’t subject to wear.

Ensure connecting points are maintained

When cutting LED Strip it is essential that the copper connection points are cut evenly, otherwise the connection point will be compromised. Ensure you cut using scissors at the centre point of the copper.

Use the most efficient driver

On each LED Strip reel page you will see a table detailing the maximum wattage for each driver. Ensure you calculate the required wattage for your length of LED Strip before selecting the driver.

Calculate the total length required

We recommend a max of 10m for a single run of LED Strip, however our drivers can accommodate longer lengths if necessary. In this instance you would need to run an additional length of strip and cable from the driver, this is called wiring in parallel.

Use the correct installation method for the surface

It is important to ensure that you are using the correct method of installation for the surface you are applying tape to. Surfaces such as uneven stone, soft wood and any exterior surface would require screw in clips or profile, see page 80 & 98.

Maintain the IP65 rating

If cutting through our IP65 LED strip, it is essential that you ensure the IP rating is maintained. Do this by using silicone glue, rubber end caps and then adding extra protection with a heat shrink. Ensure the driver is also IP protected dependent on the application requirements.

Screw in clipsFor extra security on installation we recommend screw in clips for additional support for the adhesive backing.
