The Dog Days of Sum-mer are certainly upon us here in South Geor-gia and if you trust his-tory and astrology, this will end on August 11th – Hah! The Dog Days are historically the pe-riod the Sun occupies

the same region of the sky as Sirius, the bright-est star visible from any part of Earth and part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog – hence Dog Days.

Pastor’s CornerResident of the Month Wayne Dollar

Wayne Dollar was born on May 23, 1932, in Climax, Georgia. He attended Climax School and enjoyed being on the basket-ball team during high school. After gradu-ating high school in

1951, Wayne joined the United States Air Force and proudly served during the Korean War until 1955.

Upon returning from Korea, Wayne worked for Georgia Mineral and Chemical in Decatur County before enrolling in Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College graduating in 1959. He then moved to Athens and enrolled at the University of Georgia graduating in 1961 with B.S. in Agriculture.

Mr. Dollar served as a County Agent through the University of Georgia Extension Service in Bulloch County from 1961 – 1968. He then went on to work for Georgia Farm Bureau

as Field Services Director from 1969 – 1972. Wayne decided to begin farming in Ochlock-nee Georgia in 1972 and grew corn, soybeans, peanuts, tobacco, watermelons, and pecans while also raising beef cattle. It was during this time that he also served as a Thomas County Commissioner, President of the Thomas Coun-ty Livestock Association, and President of the Thomas County Farm Bureau. Mr. Dollar was elected President of Georgia Farm Bureau in 1994 and served six terms before retiring in 2006.

Mr. Dollar is married to Jean Dollar and has one son and four daughters as well as ten grand-children. He is a member of Big Ochlocknee Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

(We are saddened to report that Mr. Dollar passed away after writing this article and this now serves as a tribute to Mr. Dollar’s life and his family. It was our sincere pleasure to care for him and our prayers are with the entire Dollar family as he will truly be missed.)

Greetings once again in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray everyone is doing well. We are already in the ninth month of this year – how quickly time goes by. And yes, it’s the summer months as well as hurricane season. Many are making plans for different things, preparing for or in the event of, a hurricane. My point is this.

While folks are very busy, they are still preparing for different things. The most important thing we can prepare for is eternity. Where will we spend eternity? There are only two choices: Heaven with the Lord or Hell with the Devil. I know this may seem like strong language, but it is the truth! Please prepare to spend eterni-ty with the Lord Jesus Christ. Call on him today!

May God bless and keep you in the hollow of his hand.

September Is Here

September Is HereSchool bells ringing in the morning,

Little girls in fresh print gowns.Little boys playing together

Some acting like wild circus clowns. From the trees the red leaves falling,

Wild geese flying overhead,The Squirrels hiding countless nuts

In their secret, wintry bed.All these signs point just one way.

Their meaning to the world is clear.September, first month of autumn,

Once again is reigning here.(By: Lenore Hetrick)
