Legendary Times - July 2008 July 2008 Volume 1, Issue 5 TIMES Official Newsletter of the Legend Oaks II Homeowners Association TIMES Legendary Ask The Board: This month we have a couple of issues, both of which have come up on the Yahoo group. If you are not yet a member of the group, I encourage you to sign up: be among the first to know what’s going on and be a part of the conversation to help make your community a better place to live. . Learn more at http://groups. yahoo.com/group/legendoaksneighbors/. Subscribe by sending an email to legendoaksneighbors-subscribe@ yahoogroups.com. Please include your name and street so that we can ensure only neighbors are members. Question 1: Does Legend Oaks have a lost and found? According to Chuck Vaughan, Association Manager for RealManage, any found items can be given to the lifeguards during pool hours. The lifeguards will deliver to the RealManage main office for claims. No official policy yet for when it’s not pool season, but of course you can always post items to the Yahoo Group. As more and more residents sign up, this will be the most efficient way to communicate with your neighbors. Question 2: What’s the status of the HOA meeting? The new date for the meeting is Thursday, July 17th, 2008. Note, it was initially set for another date and published to the Yahoo Group. This date has been changed and the new date is Thursday, July 17th. Sign ins will start at 6pm and the meeting will officially get underway at 6:30pm. The board encourages everyone to attend the meeting to learn about current events in the HOA as well as provide feedback to the board. For any items that are voted on, we need to achieve a “quorum.” The by-laws state that we must have a minimum number of residents in attendance (or by proxy) in order to achieve a binding resolution to any issues. A proxy is a form you fill out and give to a neighbor who is attending, or you can write in any Board Member’s name to vote for you. If you choose someone else’s name, they must be present at the board meeting for the proxy to count. It is important that every resident turn in your proxy. You can do this by mailing your form (which you will receive in the mail or you can download it from the Yahoo Group or the RealManage website) to Real Manage or you may drop it at Mary Mendoza’s house, 6001 Bel Fay Lane. Obtaining a number of proxies is critical to achieving a quorum in a reasonable period of time at the meeting. Remember -- turn in the proxy. Even if you think you are going to make the meeting, please turn in the proxy. If you show up at the meeting, your proxy is revoked and you can vote in person. Green Tip of the Month Excerpted from 1,001 Ways to Save the Earth, by Joanna Yarrow Lusher Lawns: Longer grass retains moisture better than short turf, so in hot weather let your lawn grow to at least 1 ½ inches before you cut it to avoid brown patches and unnecessary watering. Less Speed, More Fuel: Attention all speed freaks! Driving at 50mph is 25% more fuel-efficient than driving at 70mph. And you’re much less likely to get a ticket, or worse – wrap your car around a tree! NEW! Community Calendar If you have an event you’d like to post to the calendar, send an email to Maura Thomas at [email protected]. Newsletter deadline is the 9th of the month for the following month’s edition. The Coolest Race in Town! Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Moonlight Margarita Run, benefiting the Town Lake Trail Foundation: Thursday, August 7th, 2008, 8pm. This event, voted the “coolest race in town” will be held rain or shine at the American Legion on Veteran’s Drive. Legendary TimesSurrounded By Clutter? Bring Serenity to Your Life by Eliminating the Mess

By Maura Thomas Is there an area of your life that’s a mess? Your desk, your bedroom, yourcar?Probablyyouremailinbox?Youarenotalone.Mostpeoplearesurroundedbyphysicalorelectronicclutterinsomepartoftheirlife. But what many don’t recognize is that cluttered environments send sub-conscious messages to your brain. Messages that say you areoverwhelmed,stressed,andoutofcontrol.Acleanandunclutteredenvironmentisamuchmorepeacefulandsereneplacetospendtime.Even if you are not naturally an organized person, understanding these threereasonsforclutterwillhelpyoueliminatethemess.Justbeingmindful of which reasons are causing your clutter will help you work towardeliminatingthem. Reason#1:“OutofSight,OutofMind”Syndrome Many people use their desktop as a place to keep all of the things theyneedtodo.Andtheybelievethattheyhavetoleaveitout, becauseif they put it away, they will forget to do it. This results from the lack of a good system for managing information, like a paper or electronic PIM(personalinformationmanager).Sometimesjustacentralizedlistofeverythingonyourplateisallyouneedtoenableyoutoputallthe “in process” or “due soon” things away. Try a file in your drawer called “to-do” combined with a list on a bulletin board or a pad of paper on your desk. One list can substitute for each individual item to eliminate the clutter but still keep it visible. Also electronic lists

like the Task feature in Outlook or the Note section on your phone canbehelpful. Reason #2: You Are Deferring Making A Decision You may think you don’t know what to do with it, or it may just be happening too far in the future for you to know right now, but whatever the reason, you feel like you need to leave it out until you decide. In my work with individuals, one thing I have learned is that you ALWAYS know what to do with it, even if you have yourself convinced that you don’t. If you push through that feeling of “I don’t know” and try to think about it for a minute, I promise that most of thetime, youwillcomeupwithasolution.Andifyoutrainyourbrain to overcome that feeling of “ugh, I don’t want to deal with this now,” and just make a choice, the result will be much less “stuff” surroundingyou. Reason #3: It Doesn’t Have a Home Sometimes you can’t put something away because you haven’t designatedahomeforit.Ifyourecognizethattherearethingslyingaround your house in conspicuous places, find a spot in a drawer, a closet, acornerofthegarage…anywhereyoucan“store”thatitemsoitisoutofsitewillallowyourspacetobefreedfromclutterandtheunconsciousstressitcancause.

Cabinets help because if an area is overstuffed or just messy, at least you won’t have to look at it all the time. Doors also offer the added benefit of preventing things fromneedingtobedusted. Sometimesjustraisingyourawarenessofyourhabitsandbehaviorsallows a solution to become apparent.
